DDA Chapter 19

Good morning, DDA!

Thanks to the time change and a 5 PM cup of coffee yesterday I managed all of about 3 hours of sleep!

Hope everybody has a great Monday!! :wizard:

time change and pure frustration not coffee led to the same amount of sleep for me.

We have been getting phone calls at least daily from the following phone number: (904) 259-4351. They are offering reduced credit card rates or wish to speak to us about our car warranties. We are on the Do Not Call Registry and we have asked them to stop. They hang up when you request that. I have filed a complaint with the FTC against them. Any of you having this problem too?

We have been getting a lot of those calls, though the ones we get all start with a recorded message, so I just hang up on them. We don't have caller id, so I don't know where they are coming from.

Good luck, Beth! I hope Miles feels better soon!:wizard:

My jobs are listed apart from my volunteer stuff on my resume. Are you using a resume template? I have one in my word processor (or I used to). If you don't have one I am sure there are free ones online. They say not to list anything more than 10 years old, so if it has no bearing on the skills for the job you are applying for I would leave it off.

Thanks, Elizabeth! That should help narrow things down a bit. I've been reading resume-writing websites for tips, but I haven't seen not to include anything more than 10 years old.

These start with a recorded message too, but this morning I got madder than usual and pressed "1" so I could yell at them! :rotfl:

Good morning, all! This time change sure has thrown me for a loop. I couldn't fall asleep last night, and getting up this morning wasn't easy. We were just getting to the point that it was light outside at 6:00 am, and now it's pitch black again. I really wish I were a morning person like I was when I was a kid.

Miles is sick and won't be going to school today. He has had a fever and cold symptoms all weekend. I was hoping he'd be better today, but his temp is still 100 axillary (the thermometer was making him gag). Matthew has a similar cold but not as bad (and no fever).

A friend of a friend told me that there is a listing for a library assistant at the elementary school near us. It's a full-time position. I need to get a resume ready, because it sounds like a good opportunity to move up into full-time employment. I know that I should have an up-to-date resume, but I don't. That's what I'll be working on today. There will probably be hundreds of applicants, but I need to at least try. Being in the school system will give me similar hours and breaks as the kids, and the commute is minimal. If I could get this job, I would have less worries about helping with college costs, and I could go to WDW in August, 2010.

Hope the boys are both better fast!!

Good luck on that job....sounds like a perfect match!

I am trying to figure out how to put this resume together. I graduated college in 1986 (with a BS completely unrelated to education or library assistant). I worked from 1986-1988 and then 1988-1991 in jobs that are completely unrelated to this new position. I guess they need to be on the resume, but should I just keep it brief (not get into responsibilities, etc), since they don't relate? Next I was volunteer treasurer and then registrar for a preschool before teaching there. Do those get listed under volunteer positions or should I just include them in my list of experience without mention that they are volunteer?

This is getting a little overwhelming, and I used to actually be intelligent.

would you like me to email you my resume??

If so PM where you want me to send it to.

I had the best weekend! Why, because I haven't seen my SIL since she got into town. And I imagine I'll get to avoid her completely this visit. :cool1:

Yesterday I spent the morning decorating Alyssa's cake then it was off to her party. I got in the pool with Lucy and she absolutely loved it. I can't wait for summer. We hit Target for a few things, then home to do chores. I then dropped Em off for a playdate with her friend and I went grocery shopping. Had to stock up on lots of salad stuff, way too much cake this weekend!!! Came home, ate a bit for dinner, worked on laundry before it was bath and bed time for the girls. More laundry before bed at 9:30pm. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Today is going to prove to be interesting...I will have 8 kids until 11:45 when 2 will leave for school. Then I will have the remaining 6 until pickup starts around 3:30. This will be every Monday til the end of March. :scared1: If I haven't said it before, I REALLY HATE MONDAYS!!!! And to top it off, Lucy woke up covered in dried throw up (gross, I know) She has no fever or anything other than a horrible cough, so I'm crossing my fingers it was a one time thing. And to top it off, Eric stayed home today. He is didn't sleep well. I really don't think he'll get much of chance to catch up though. That'll teach him to screw up my day!! :rolleyes1
:rotfl: :rotfl:
sounds like a good weekend!!

Elin - I get the calls saying "The factory warranty on your vehicle is about to expire" EVERY DAY on my CELL PHONE! :headache: :headache: And they call from a different area code EVERY DAY. It is never the same number. I just don't answer it. Idiots. The problem is I think Nissan sold my name and number to them, because the dealership calls my cell phone anytime they are trying to get in touch with us. Obviously that's the primary number in their records.

Good morning all!!

no jobs to apply for again this morning....guess I might actually do housework today:rotfl:

It does make you wonder where they get the numbers to call, doesn't it?!?!? Do you have to pay for those incoming calls on your cell?

Hi, all!

Elin - I got one of those calls this morning! We have caller ID, but for whatever reason I picked it up I didn't catch the full part of the message, so I pressed "1" as I wanted to know what account they were calling about, and why. Needless to say, I was not pleased to realize why they were calling, and that they weren't affiliated with our CC companies. The woman then had the audacity to ask me if I could confirm the amount of my CC debt?!?! As I told her, that is certainly none of your business, and if you call here again, I will be reporting you! (And, our CC debt is gone!!! So there.)

Beth - good luck with the resume - sounds like a great job! I say, include whatever makes your resume look "full", but I wouldn't go into too much detail on those positions not relevant to those you've held in education. IMO, I would only not include older experience if it made your resume unnecessarily long (more than 1 page), but I think it can sometimes be necessary if you've been out of the workforce at different times, but want to show that you've had longevity in prior positions. Good luck!

Ann Marie - good luck with all the inspections! :wizard: How nice of Dana to want to do those things for your moms, but I agree - a DCL med. cruise might not be in the future! Of course, I was listening to an old podcast the other day from '07, and they were talking about the rock-bottom prices Disney lowered the trans-Atlantic cruises to when they went to the Med the first time - might be something to keep an eye on.

Elin - good luck with your F&WF plans! I'm sad that I'll miss yet another festival this year. :sad1: Enjoy your weather!

Glynis - good luck keeping the kids busy today!

Well, I need to get myself moving - I haven't accomplished much this a.m., due to the time change, I just didn't sleep well last night and have been really lethargic today. It's time to get some energy, though!

I've tried to read a few times this morning, but I've lost all my replies in the process.

Tammi my kids went to school in snowpants and we now have about 8 inches of snow on the ground. The roads are horrible yet there was school and we still have people swimming, lots of parents with little ones :sad2: One would think they would keep them safely at home. It hasn't been super busy, but still.

Beth good luck with your resume. I haven't done one in years either and I'm not looking forward to doing it again.

Good morning, DDA!

Thanks to the time change and a 5 PM cup of coffee yesterday I managed all of about 3 hours of sleep!

Hope everybody has a great Monday!! :wizard:

I hope today hasn't been that bad. It's quiet in here now, thank goodness!!!!

Anne Marie - good luck finding the right vacation, for a much better price!

Beth - :wizard: for Milles.

Ditto!! And Beth, good luck with the job search.

I get them all the time on my cell, drives me insane.

I hope you get some rest after you've gotten done what you need to.

Miraculously things have gone quite well this morning...

I took on one extra kid on Mondays back in December and had him through most of Jan and then his mom's hours at work got cut back. 2 weeks ago I agreed to watch my girlfriend's little boy MWF from 9am - 11:45am before school. He goes to school with Mo and my MIL picks them both up and takes them in for me. His mom said she would bring Mo home for me so I didn't have to load all the kids up!! Works out great. Well then last week Christine, the one who lost her DH @ Thanksgiving called and asked me if I could watch her youngest DD just on Mondays for this month. I agreed and then the next day the mom who got her hours cut called and said she was able to start back up on Mondays. It figures!!!! But we've survived and it's actually been fun today.

I do have a little story that happened at lunch. Christine's DD was telling me her mom was at work and would get her later today. I said yep, she will after lunch. Then she said her sister was at school. One of the boys said Daddy's at work, and I told him "yes, your daddy is at work" Well, Christine's DD looked at me and said "No, daddy's dead, not at work" :sad1: :sad1: She said it so matter of factly, so I told her "yes he was" And they all went back to their lunches.

Robyn-that is so sad, the poor baby to be so matter of fact. I am glad the day going relatively well. :cool2:
