DDA Chapter 18

Sorry. Didn't mean to alarm all of you. I guess it's been so long that many of you won't remember that John has a 23 yo dd, so my stepdd. She went off to college when she was 18, against our wishes, as we knew that she was not mature enough to handle it. We wanted her to live with us and go to community college. Anyway, she always lived boyfriend to boyfriend. Everytime someone paid a little bit of attention to her she was head over heels. And if she didn't have a boyfriend, she was miserable. So she goes to college, flunks out after her freshman year, comes home in the summer, meets a guy, moves in with him after a few months, gets married, and divorced by 21. Since then she has been living with a few different guys until she catches them cheating on her. I call it the love me daddy syndrom because she never had her father in her life much (yes, hindsight is 20/20 ). Now I have to figure out how to prevent Alyssa from going through this and not be out hoe-ing around when she gets older.

This is EXACTLY what Diva is going to go through.

Similar to Ms. Selfish. She would enroll in classes at the community college, but never managed to actually complete any of them. And my parents would pay for semester after semester because she kept promising to go to class. She moved out, bounced from roomie to roomie. The ONLY positive thing about the way she did things was that she did manage to hold a job at the same company for almost 5 years. Then she met Loser, got pregnant, and married him. Then she got mad at her job and quit because they wouldn't give her as much maternity leave as she thought she was entitled to. She told Mom that Loser "will do for the first husband". Well, her in-laws have WAY too much invested in those kids to allow them to be taken away if Ms. Selfish divorces the Loser, so if she divorces him she will pretty much have to leave her kids behind. Maybe she wouldn't care. She isn't raising them, anyway.

Kelli I hope that you DD gets over that virus soon. Nick had a ear ache last week and he says that it still feels plugged, but it doesn't hurt He doesn't want to go to the doctors yet.

Tammi - I would lay a strong foundation NOW that shows Alyssa that happiness is in no way contingent on having a man. First and foremost she needs to be smart, strong, and independent. Point out examples of healthy relationships, and as she gets older you should point out the bad examples, too. Teach her that women who are whiney and clingy are pathetic.

The first day went well, nobody drowned...or required assistance It was actually quite boring. Since there was a snowstorm last night it was pretty quiet today. I guess that was a great way to learn the ropes so to speak. I even read the lifeguard manual. Apparently the existing lifeguards didn't even know that there was a manual

they boys are working on homework then we will take them swimming. They haven't been since last Wednesday and they are going through withdrawl.

I don't think that would ever happen to Alyssa. Kids who behave that way feel like they do not exist that's why they seek attention elsewhere. There is too much love in your family for that to be the outcome.

That's funny, because when we were at GWL she was standing in line for the rope walk thing, like they have at BB. Anyway, all these big boys kept cutting in front of her. I was watching her and could just see the steam coming out of her ears. I went over and told her that the next time one cuts in front of her to elbow him in the ribs. Bob was surprised that I told her that. I don't want her growing up to be a doormat. For whatever reason I ended up a strong woman, and I especially want that for my daughter, to be able to make her way in the world without relying on anyone, especially a man.

For these two reasons especially, I think Alyssa will turn out a fine young woman! That's not to say there won't be times you butt heads, of course, as I had a phenomenal support system in my parents and still almost ended up with a loser... but it IS to say that I am confident that as these things remain true, she will ultimately make good decisions and value who She is!


Deb, I'm glad you got through your first day without event!

Kelli, I hope DD is feeling better quickly! As much as it sucks, I'm impressed with her MD for sticking with no antibiotics for now. They really do need to learn to stick to their guns if we don't all want to die from some super bug in the near future! So many of them still give antibiotics like suckers, for the first sign of a snotty nose. Still, I was just right there this week ... I know it's not EVER what you want to hear while you or your family has to sit around sick!

For whatever reason I think I turned out more like the Ogre than like Mom. I am much more defensive than Mom is, and I am hyper-vigilant about anybody taking advantage of me or underestimating me. Or controlling me. That's my big one. DH knows better than to tell me I "can't" do something or go somewhere or whatever.

My sisters are more passive and can't seem to figure out how to function as a singular entity as opposed to a piece of a larger unit.

The test results work quickly...I have an interview at 11:00 on Thursday with the enviromental agency in the city and county of Denver.

Katie & Daniel just came home in FOUL moods.
Jeez, & to think I missed them not being home today.

my internet has been off and on all day...mainly off. There is a grid outage somewhere near here and since Qwest is the main business internet provider they had to have been working furiously in this business hub.

The test results work quickly...I have an interview at 11:00 on Thursday with the enviromental agency in the city and county of Denver.

arrgh!!! I obviously had the wrong combo of clothes in my second load of the day as they are still in the dryer more than 2 hours later and came out of the washer sopping...this is the first time that's happened so I am not to worried but I've got a ton of laundry to do and since the internet is wonky, what else do I have to do??

Thanks for all the PD for my DD, she seems to be on the mend, at least her fever is staying down longer between her meds.

Bob and I had a very similar conversation at some point this weekend, but since Kathrin is 30, we opted to keep it to ourselves. She always goes for the same type of guy and then is stuck in a one-way relationship that makes her, and all those around her, unhappy. She is dealing with that again and it is all I can do to keep my big mouth shut.
hmmmm... I wonder if you can post anonymously on someone's wall on facebook...

No, no, no. I wanted to hear that it got better before 30. Katrina is 23 and is still in the same situation.

Wow, that is rough. I don't think you will have to worry about Alyssa as she has you in her life to keep her straight and Bob to have a strong male influence. He seems to spend quality time with your kids, even babysitting for you at times

So why is Becky like this? She has Chuck & I in her life. He is definitely a hands on father and always has been.

arrgh!!! When my load seems extra wet I run a second spin cycle and that helps tremendously

There is a manual, mostly on uniform and behavior. The EAP section was only a page or so long It is definitely a work in progress, but I think it is manageable for now.
