DDA Chapter 16

Shot in the dark, but has anyone travelled to Greece? Apparently, my FIL is sending Phil to Greece sometime this calendar year to do some family history research. FIL's parents and aunts/uncles all immigrated from Greece in the 1910s through Ellis Island. We know alot about names, etc, but he wants Phil and his brother to find out more in person. The crazy part is that he wants to send them each separately to work independently. Phil's trying to convince him that they could do more being there at the same time and trading notes each night, but I don't think that's going to happen. Either way, Phil is really excited about the idea. For once, travelling doesn't seem so bad. This is something he's wanted to do anyway so having it offered to him with a set time period in which it will happen is great!

So, I'm trying to figure out how to go about finding Phil the best deals, places to stay etc. Are there good travel info/discount sites for Europe?

I never have, but if I were going to plan a trip like that I would contact Chanon!

Oh, Elin! I'm still trying to catch up, but had to respond to this. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and Bob at this time! I'm so terribly sorry for your loss.

Thank you, Glynis. :goodvibes

I finished Kingdom Keepers (it was originally for Katie) last night. Interesting, however it ended kind of wierd..I guess thats why there a KK 2.

I read both KK1 and KK2 on vacation and enjoyed them. But there has to be a KK3 because the second book also leaves you hanging.

I wish your housing situation were finished, Anne Marie.

Well the family is gone. I hope they hvae a good time but im bummed.. I did good til my mom adn grandma started to cry..and dad was a bit sad
Its so weird becaue its not like i care if they go on vacations without me..it just isnt fun being the only one left behind!

Oh I am going to have to get KK2 now.

Thanks Elin.:goodvibes

Nick's room is DONE !!!!:cool1: :cool1: The biggest part of post Christmas cleanup is over. This weekend I should be able to pull the rest of the house together :thumbsup2

We've also worked on the alphabet 3 separate times today. He is doing much better. Repetition seems to work.

I just reserved a car through Alamo for 3 nights during our March stay. We will pick it up at the Dolphin, anyone ever pick up a car here? I thought it might be easier to get to than the car care center :confused3

The day after we arrive we will probably head off to KSC for the day & that night there is a launch scheduled for 10:49pm. This is what Gary is really wanting to see, so hopefully the weather will cooperate! The KSC closes at 7pm, so I figured we would eat & then I have no idea what we would do till the launch, any suggestion? Saturday I did not have any plans, so we will drive to the outlet malls & do some shopping!

I do need to change some dining reservations now though. I have Cape May reserved for Thursday night, so that I will have to cancel & I have breakfast reservations Friday morning. I might keep that one & see how we feel in the morning. I think I will add a reservation for dinner that night, just in case.

Gary also decided that beings we are going to KSC that he didn't need to do the Richard Petty drive again. Oh & he also wants to do the Keys To The Kingdom tour.

If I am lucky I will make it to the parks at least 4 days lol

Remember I have never seen a launch from KSC, Titusville or areas really nearby. I have seen them though from like 20 miles or more away.

The time in between, KSC closing and the launch park your car and wait. Honestly traffic in that area will likely be horrible and you need to get your spot early. I would definitely read up http://www.launchphotography.com/Launch_Viewing_Information.htmlon the best way to view a launch. I do know that the closest you can get is like 6 miles away from the launch pad.

Good luck and I hope you get to see the launch.

Good afternoon, DDA! :sunny:

I made myself get up and get things done this morning and I am glad to report that all but one suitcase is unpacked, the laundry is all done, the kitchen is cleaned up, my car is washed and the grocery shopping is done. I went to get my nails done and the place I go is closed until Tuesday. :( I might try another place close to me. I don't know anyone who has ever gone there though. :confused3

Kristin's friend, Ashley, takes care of Button when we are gone. She told Kristin when we found out about my MIL that we were not to worry about her... she would be here to care for her. And she did. And, when we got home there was a bottle of Rosa Regale in the refrigerator as well as some yummy oat cakes and English Cheddar in case we felt like celebrating on NYE.

She will not take a cent for doing this so I went to our favorite wine store and splurged on a bottle of wine she has been coveting. I have never spent $75 retail on a bottle of wine before. I hope she loves it!

:yay: for the cleanup!

And you are right! For children Colby's age, repetition is the best for learning. I am glad it is working.

I bought KK2 for DS for Christmas but he hasn't touched it. Guess I should read it myself so SOMEBODY will be getting enjoyment out of it!!

Anne marie - Hopefully you will find a buyer soon! Friends of ours have a rental house that has been sitting empty since September. They said things are always really slow through the holidays, but hopefully things will start to pick up now! (We would LOVE to live in that rental house, but it is big so the rental rate is too high. :guilty: )

Bob and I both enjoyed reading the 2 books. I look forward to a third!

Well, the undecorating on the inside is done. :( Tomorrow I will put take down the outside lights. It's not terribly bad outside, but tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer.

We have been playing games all afternoon. I did do 2 loads of laundry as well. I wish I could always be on vacation.

Tia I have been to Europe, but not Greece. Gary did all the planning, so I wouldn't even no where to begin with help for you. Gary is in the planning stages now of taking another trip in Nov/Dec.

So with that said, I may not be doing an August trip. Which is fine, Gary deserves to get away as well. We might be visiting someone who lives in Ohio instead :teeth:
WHO HOO! Glad to see the trip is in the works again! We can visit the Zoo and the Rainforest and spend a few days at Cedar Point...

I never have, but if I were going to plan a trip like that I would contact Chanon!
Actually, I hate to say this but I don't do much with international travel. There's a website out there at booktravelound DOT com and somewhere on the left is "Travel Guides" is a good starting point for general information. I'd also see if there are some geneology websites and see if the offer any info for Greece...Bob's parents did this for Germany.

Good afternoon, DDA!

How exciting! I remember receiving a "daily diary" from our cats when we went on vacation a few years ago from the cat sitter - I mean the cats themselves - and what they did each day while we were gone. It was the nicest thing. She got a very nice gift certificate to Panera Bread for her efforts. I'm sure she'll love it!

The kids are playing Rock Band again. They really enjoy that game. I've had my high fiber crackers for a snack, now I need to get ready for work.

Thanks Becky! I know Gary was reading on some sites, I will have to see if he has looked at either of these.

Hope you still feel this way after being around my boys for a few days :rotfl:

Wish we could get our boys together, they would all rock out together!
