Kathrin finally had her unemployment benefits kick in at midnight last night. They deposited 6 weeks of checks in her account. She was so excited she called me. And, when she went to the dentist today to have her permanent crown "installed" she discovered that she had overpaid her portion of the fees so there will be a refund ot her credit card.

All in all some good news to brighten everyones' afternoons, I hope. :goodvibes
That is very good news!

One of the descriptions of basal cell carcinoma says the same spot will "erupt", then heal, then "erupt" again. That was the one blurb of text that pushed me into making the appointment. It is definitely not any sort of insect bite.
I've had basal cell carcinoma so I could give you my 'professional' opinion. ;) :thumbsup2

The county that I work for is forcing a 1 day furlough on Jan. 2. So, in the police department only 24/7 personnel are exempt. If you are not a patrol officer assigned to work that day, you are furloughed. For instance, detectives and such who work a Mon-Fri shift are not considered essential personnel (they aren't patrol, out there handling calls for service) so they are furloughed. School Resource Officers are furloughed, because there isn't school that day and they aren't 'essential'. I don't know who came up with this boneheaded policy because if/when the big one happens, it doesn't matter your specific job assignment, you are expected to respond. So on January 2 there will only be maybe 96 police officers working an area where there are a million people living. Brilliant.

Elin-great news!! for Kathrin. I hope the car repair is quick and easy!!

Elizabeth-your posts always make me :goodvibes

My interview lasted for a whole 15 minutes (with 45 minutes there and 45 back) and it started with the interviewer telling me I had a very impressive resume and she fears I am overqualified for the job.

She then also said about 600 people had applied for the job and 3 that had been chosen for first interviews didn't show up:confused3 . I am afraid she'll still think I am overqualified and won't put me through to the next round. One plus for me is that I have worked with the company before as a PTO president.

so true....1 time I was looking at symptoms online...and I followed the graph....and it concluded that I have a prostate issue!!!! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: That is fabulous!

Elizabeth, these ladies are right. Don't do it! (And, of course, I hope it turns out to be nothing! :wizard:)

The worst of which is Eric found out that he will more than likely have a furlough of up to 5 days. I know that it's pretty minimal right now but I am scared to death that it could lead to bigger things. His salary is all based on grants and federal funding so I am very scared that if the economy gets any worse those funds will be cut.

I agree with this. Elizabeth listen to Amy.

Elizabeth, back away from the internet! You did the right thing by making a doctor's appointment for Monday. Don't scare yourself for the next four days looking at pictures!

Hello, all! I'm sorry I don't have time to read right now. If anyone has Karen's address, could you please PM me.

Thanks!

I REALLY think it is a cherry hemangioma. I would bet money on it.
But I will have to remember that you have first hand experience. :scared: How bad was the treatment for that?

DISD has their own police. I would LOVE for our resource officer to be furloughed. Permanently. :rolleyes1
So I guess on 1/2 there will be a lot of folks responding in their lounge wear if there is an emergency? :confused3

Elin glad Kathrins unemployment came though!

Deb great news about the bike!

Theresa :wizard: that you hear about the job.

Elizabeth :wizard: for the Dr's appointment.

Robyn    In case you missed it, Thank you again for my Christmas ornament!

Not bad at all. The only problem that I had is the cosmetic issue. It was on my shoulder, and about the size of a dime before I went and had it checked. So they numbed it and cut it out, then did what they call a purse strap suture. The shoulder moves every direction so the incision stretched as it healed. Now I have a lovely scar the size of a quarter. I tell everyone it's my gunshot wound. ;) For the longest time I refused to wear anything sleeveless. Then I got over it and now I just don't care. That's it. That was the treatment.

A coworker of mine's daughter was born with a hemangioma right on the top of her forhead. Poor thing. But she is almost 3 and it has since disappeared. It took a long time though. I guess they are harmless, just look awful.

DH thinks I should keep the appointment and ask the Dr. to get rid of it. Well, I had the one on my knee frozen off and it wasn't too horrible, but I don't know if I want the one on my BELLY frozen off! I think it can stay right where it is. Especially since I figured out that it is not some mutant, cancerous mole. :scared:

Princess has a BIG red birthmark on her lower leg. Bigger than a silver dollar, but flat. The Dr. said it would be gone entirely by the time she is 5. I am amazed at how much it has faded in the past year.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get moved up to the next round. At least you showed up. Overqualified or not, that had to help!

He can write a letter if he is looking at it. I guess he is starting to relate letters to the appropriate sounds (doesn't do it well for me though), be if you ask him to write a letter on his own he only know a few. He also has trouble recognizing letters. Of course he has COLBY down pat.

Katrina and Becky had learning disabilities. We lived in a small school district when Katrina was in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. She had about 25 kids in her grade (yes, that is grade not class). Luckily, they had just implemented a great program for teaching reading & writing. It was designed for dyslexic children and all of the elementary teachers at this school were taught the program and were to use it in their classrooms. It was wonderful. It didn't hold the better students back but it gave the students that needed different ways of learning for comprehension.

Basically, they used the different senses. They had pans of sand and they wrote in the sand. This let them "feel" the letters. They would tap out syllables on their arm (when they learned syllables) for the same reason. They read the letters out loud while they were writing the letters so they heard it. It was a great program and Katrina learned to compensate for her disability much younger than Becky because by the time Becky was in school we had moved out of that school district. I would recommend using as many senses as possible for teaching anything. It truly was amazing. The teachers really liked the program and as I said they taught one grade and many had been at the school for years. Katrina's class was the 1st one where it was implemented. I wish all schools would implement something similar. As I said, even the regular students learned quickly with this program and retained more.

Is anybody else really disturbed that the Bachelor has a child, and they are dragging him through this process? Maybe they shielded him from all the wanna-be mommies, but I still find it patently WRONG to subject a child (a THREE YEAR OLD) to something like that. If I was his mother I would be apoplectic. I hate that show, and now I hate it even more, but I may be forced to watch to see how they made sure the little boy was not traumatized. I might have to write a really nasty letter.

That sounds like what Elizabeth was talking about with the sandpaper and shaving cream. It sounds strange, by maybe we should come up with something to try with Colby. He does like to write in the condensation on the windows does that count?

We've been having snow and freezing rain intermittantly all day. We now have about 1 1/2 inches of snow with a sheet of ice in there somewhere. The roads are slick. I'm guessing that there will not be school tomorrow. The boys will be disappointed as they have projects that they want to finish up to give us for Christmas.

I emailed facebook last week when I caught that virus that killed our desktop as I couldn't get into facebook. They just returned my email 10 minutes ago. I can't believe how long it took them, I figured that the email was never received. Anyway I was able to log in and deactivate my account. I spent way to many hours dealing with that virus to ever want to risk it happening again.
