So who else is getting rain mixed with snow? We are also under a storm watch for Thursday and Friday. Either ice or 8" of snow. (bah!!)

Deb,
My kids always used Leapster electronic toys & books when they were little & that was very helpful.

Regarding CSR being like POR. I got the opposite feeling at CSR.

POR is shady & feels more woodsy & dark. CSR is bright, warm tones, & sunny.

POR seems more spread out. CSR is big but laid out well. Trust me I am very bad with directions & I felt CSR easier to navagate.

POR buses are not good. CSR buses were great. Never waited long at all.

If CSR could accomodate 5 people I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Tonight the downtown branch of our library system is holding their holiday open house from 7-8 p.m. They will have the annual showing of the movie "The Snowman," in the Storytime Room, at 7 PM followed by carols by the Fredericksburg Singers in the Lobby. Refreshments will be served. I love that I get to sing with the kids and their families again!

I got it at the library. I've found that buying books is a waste of money when I have 2 libraries to choose from. ;)

I need to see if I can pick some up next week to take with us. How long were you on the waiting list for that one?

So far the long-range forecast for our trip looks very nice. Keep your fingers crossed! Highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows around 60. It would be lovely to have nice weather for this trip.

I got it at FFX and it was on the shelf, surprisingly. I'm reading Strangers in Death. I don't think it's the most recent though.

Maybe we'll have to venture down there.

What is the letter factory and what other tips do you have. I was looking for Alphabet games for the computer or one of our video game systems, but haven't had any luck yet.

Ouch

He can write a letter if he is looking at it. I guess he is starting to relate letters to the appropriate sounds (doesn't do it well for me though), be if you ask him to write a letter on his own he only know a few. He also has trouble recognizing letters. Of course he has COLBY down pat.

I would love any advice that you guys might have. I'm guessing that Jen is probably dealing with this in her kindergarten class.
?
Theres a song called "Who Let the Letters Out' By Dr. Jean-It goes through and says "who let the _ out? Then it does the sound repeatedly..My kids love that and it helps some of them remember. Like others said, the flashcards are great--i have kids that would do flashcards all the time if i let them.
With writing the letters--i have some kids that use playdough to form the letters then they write them. I have others that use letter stamps and stamp letters on the paper and then trace them. I have a few children that could only write the letter if he/she was looking at it...what i did was sit with them and have the letter flashcard and had them say "this is A" and write it. I made them say the letter so itw asnt just copying a letter, they could relate it to a letter name. As we went on, i would cover up small parts of the letter until only a little bit then no parts of the letter were showing. it seemed to help

The big thing is repitition. Let me know if you need more help!

Morning everyone! I was asleep by 9:30 last night!

Good morning, DDA!

We had sleet last night, and the heat ran almost non-stop. It was about 40 degrees when I came home from work so I imagine it is colder now. :scared:

I ordered my Christmas cards from Sam's. DH is supposed to pick them up later today so we'll see how they look. The Sam's we always go to wasn't offered as a pick-up location so we ended up using one by DH's work.

Has anyone received their snapfish photobooks yet? Mine has said printed for a couple of weeks now, but it hasn't been shipped :confused3 On Thursday it will be one month since I ordered it.

I received an e-mail yesterday saying that mine had shipped and should be here in approximately 3-5 days. I think you ordered a day or two ahead of me, so hopefully yours is also on its way. If you go into your account, you should be able to check on the status. I know that when I created mine, they said that due to the large volume of free book requests, it could take 6-8 weeks. BTW, my "free" book ended up costing me almost $30! I can't wait to see it.

You just said a mouth full.

I can see it now. Hurry, hurry, step right up and meet Theresa and Heidi the only 2 people ever to hurt themselves inside a plastic bubble.

I might be able to join you in that. :rotfl: My favorite aunt used to always say, "It's a good thing your mother didn't name you Grace."

Heidi, I hope your finger is feeling better. Those types of injuries can hurt for quite a while.

After a pitiful night at work last night, I'm pleased to report that tonight was much better. It was nice to actually be busy for the entire evening :thumbsup2

Glad you had a good night at work. Have you tried letting him write the letters in shaving cream in the bathtub or shower? There are three methods of learning letters/reading at Shelton, and one of them involves taking a small, flat, smooth board and letting the kids trace the letters with their fingers, either with the flashcard lettering, or doing it without tracing anything. It sounds like you've had good advice. I hope you start seeing improvement soon. :grouphug:

I'm loving all the pictures and trip reports. Thank you!

I made peanut butter balls for Andrew last night, as he asked for them on his last evening before he gets his braces today. Since he has sensory issues, I'm really not looking forward to this. Luckily, they are much more minor then when he was little, so maybe it won't be as big a deal as I fear.

Have a great day everyone!

So who else is getting rain mixed with snow? We are also under a storm watch for Thursday and Friday. Either ice or 8" of snow. (bah!!)

Yuck! We are getting all rain this morning. Yesterday morning must have been icy in the hills or outlying areas, because school was delayed 2 hrs. Dh said the roads were ok in the neighborhood and perfectly fine in town when he went to work at 7 am.

We have a winter storm watch in effect tomorrow into Friday morning. Either ice or 7+" of snow. It's only a watch at this point, though, so I'm not expecting much to come of it. I almost hope that we don't get a snow day tomorrow. We didn't have preschool yesterday, because of the 2 hour delay, and I need to get parent gifts done.

I got it at FFX and it was on the shelf, surprisingly. I'm reading Strangers in Death. I don't think it's the most recent though.

I just put that one on hold at the library... I am 120th in line!
