DDA Chapter 14

Janet,

I was thinking of what to say about your concerns of when to tell the boys. When the family loves going to Disney, it of course is harder to tell the kids that Mom and Dad are going without them. Sorta different if Mom and Dad were going to a spa or a B&B or something like that. I started telling my kids when I went away with or without Hal that it was my time to go and have some fun. I needed to regroup and that was the way I was going to. Then when I am with them, we will have the best time ever. We will always have the memories to look back on. But there are just some times that the adults get to go by themselves. I used to say that one day they will understand when they are saying the same thing to their kids if they do get married!!!

But now they tell me that they understand what I meant. They haven't had to explain yet to the kids because they are still too young to understand.

You know your kids better than anyone else. Maybe if you tell them before Christmas, they could get you something for your trip. Or they could make something for your trip.

Thank you for the nice words Terry :goodvibes

Beth I love your pictures of the mountains!

When I went to Europe I was just in awe of the mountains & scenery there, just beautiful!

I need some advice for a hometown friend, and thought I would ask you guys first instead of on a specific thread because I know you guys and trust you.

A teacher and her kids, plus in-laws are headed to WDW December 5-13. I think she's been before, but it's been a while, and they've never been at Christmas. She has done her ADRs, but I don't think she's looked at a best days chart. Anyway, she asked me my opinion about MVMCP and if it is worth the extra money. I told her that I had great experiences at the two parties we attended, but I would ask friends what they think. Keep in mind they haven't been at Christmas, and probably won't get to again for a long time, as she's taking off from school to do this. (and has never taken a week off before in the school year, so this is a big deal.) She just doesn't want to do this if they can get the same experience during the day. I told her that I loved the special events, and that I think it's worth the extra money. What do the rest of you think?

Also, she asked about Universal. They have planned a day there as well, and she had heard there was a shuttle that could be picked up from Downtown Disney. Is that correct?

Thanks for your help!

Since they have not been during the Christmas celebration, I would definately tell them to go. It was such an experience seeing the Osborne Lights. Smelling hot chocolate. seeing it snow on main street in the MK.

I cannot wait to see the Castle all lit up.

I already called Cassidy and told her to get bail money together. :rotfl2: She told me if I had to, to leave work early. What a smart cookie I've raised. :lovestruc

yes you have. Tell Cassidy if she needs to to call her aunties and we will help raise bail money I'm sure. But like Elizabeth said, don't leave witnesses:)

I vote for a pot holder. Towels get washed too much. Hangings may never make it to a wall. Pot holders don't get washed too often and would get use in my house.

Sorry I missed this, but I agree about the pot holder ::yes::

Can you all send some pixie dust Sara's way, please. She had another ultrasound yesterday and it revealed that her fluid is high again. The report went into all this detail about the possible complications (of which included stillbirth) and it has stressed her out beyond belief. She is very concerned that she will not come home with a baby.

Youve got it
I totally agree with you! Here they call the "works cited" pages, and I would rather write 50 pages on my own than have to complete the works cited page! It seems like no matter how careful they are, there is always something wrong on the works cited sheet.
i HATED the works cited page with a passion--finally, in my senior year of college, a professor told us about www.easybib.com i LOVE it! you pick the type of material, put in the info, choose MLA or APA and it does it for you!

Chanon thanks for the heads up on Air Tran! I'm not happy about it, but what can you do :sad2:

Beth, I haven't look for Christmas ideas yet, but did come across this cute Thanksgiving one

Handprint Turkey with Poem
This is the standard handprint turkey craft that we've all been making for years!

Materials:
paper
scissors
pencil crayons
glue
OPTIONAL: feathers

Directions:
Trace around child's hand with the fingers spread out as much as possible.

Either cut a eyes, hat, beak and wattle out of construction paper or draw them on with pencil crayons or markers ... the thumb of the turkey is the head.

Draw on some orange legs

OPTIONAL: Glue a feather onto each of the fingers

Glue the hand to larger paper and have the kids write this poem or you could type it up for them.

This isn't just a turkey as you can plainly see.

I made it with my hand which is a part of me.

It comes with lots of love especially to say,

I hope you have a very, Happy Thanksgiving Day!

This reminds me of my favorite preschool gift. It was a poster of the kid's handprints with a poem between the hands. The poem read:

My Handprints

Sometimes I might upset you
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
on furniture and walls.

But everyday I grow a bit
And soon I'll be so tall
That all those little fingerprints
Will be so hard to recall.

So here's a special handprint
Just so that you can say
This is how my fingers looked
When I placed them here today

Here is another variation

My Handprints

My dirty little handprint
I've left on every wall
And on the drawers and tabletops
I've really marked them all
But here is one that won't rub off
I'm giving it to you
Because I am so thankful
For a (mother/father/gran) just like you!

Only 2 of my kids made them, but I have both of those in frames on the wall. I'm pretty sure that it is something I will keep forever.

The ex-housekeeper came to the door a little while ago to ask if my bosses need someone to clean. That was awkward. Momboss fired her because she didn't do a good job. I wrote down her phone number and told her I would tell Momboss she stopped by. I guess she is only working one day a week. I feel bad for her, and I would LOVE to have a housekeeper, but I don't want a housekeeper who doesn't do a good job!

I had lunch with 3 of the other nannies today. One said the housekeeper came in this morning and brought her laundry so she could wash it while she cleaned the house! :scared1: The nanny had things for the kids she needed to wash so she was furious. She called her boss and ratted out the housekeeper. We'll see how that turns out. :rolleyes1

At my very first job the housekeeper would come in and immediately fix herself a huge breakfast. :rotfl:

I forgot to finish with the MVMCP and Universal question.

The Universal Studios part. I am not aware of any shuttle at downtown disney. It would be cheapest to rent a car, but if that is not an option they can use Mears or a Towncar service. If they are staying offsite their hotel may provide an option, I am quite certain that Disney does not offer any form of transportation since they want to keep you there. Knowing how big and busy WDW is I would suggest just staying there. It takes more than one day to do many of the parks, not to mention any extra activities like mini golf, downtown disney, etc. Universal Studios is large in and of itself. Unless they set up some sort of guided tour like Kristine's family has done or if they stay at a Universal Resort they will not have time to do both parks and I would think that they would struggle to complete either one. I think she may leave there wishing she had had a lot more time or feeling disappointed. I know that next time we do US we will plan no less than3 3 - 4 days. I actually want to enjoy myself and not feel that I missed a bunch of things. That's just my opinion.

One last update before I leave. Sara is getting pitocin as we speak. I will head up there at some point after I get back from the GS meeting. Her best friend is with her now.

Catch ya later.

We're taking an afternoon break which may be extended, it's raining pretty hard here right now. I've added a view updates to the report.
