DDA Chapter 14

Apparently my suggestion worked and Erin is bringing a tray of Chick Fil A nuggets home for us all to eat before Trick or Treating. After dinner, we'll take the kids around the neighborhood for awhile. Rachel and a few of her friends have been planning a Haunted House for weeks. They have set it up at her friend's house around the corner and have really put a lot of work into it, including handing out flyers at school, the neighborhood and their old 5th grade teachers' classes. I am really hoping they get some people that come through so they aren't too dissapointed.

Here are a couple of photos from yesterday's parade and party at Leighanna's school.
Crazy hair! She lost her hair clippie to hold some of that hair.

Parade route had treat stops for all the kids.

Coloring and other activities at the Halloween party. Of course she had to color her Jack-O-Lantern puzzle with a pink crayon!

I hope she gets to feeling better. I wonder if she is also overstimulated?

Well, Momboss said the 103 temp was with the ear thermometer. I have gotten a reading as high as 107 on DS with those. :scared1: They are notoriously bad for accuracy. I think her temp was probably lower grade than that. She is hideous when she doesn't sleep enough, so I think that is her main problem today. Plus she is SOOOO excited for trick-or-treat, even though she has no idea what it really is.

home for lunch and now back to school for the festivities

Cool skeleton! :thumbsup2

Elizabeth-poor Princess, I hope when she gets up from her nap she'll be ready to do a little trick or treating.

She was just hollering for me a minute ago, which means she slept less than 2 hours. I told her to try to rest a little bit more, but that usually maxes out after about 3 minutes.

She will be Mulan this evening. She has a new pumpkin as well this year and I will have to photograph her with it.

Superman is precious! And very cool pumpkins, too!
I used to love that Beauty and the Beast show! Ron Perlman and Linda What's-Her-Name. Kind of hokey, but I never missed an episode.

DS said he only had to pay $1 for his temp ID badge yesterday. Hopefully he won't forget his permanent one again!

He said in History they had to say which candidate they chose for president and defend the choice based on the candidate's policy. I really hope that doesn't come back to haunt him. He said when he was talking the other kids were all talking over him, then the teacher would jump in and DS wouldn't get to finish his point. I wasn't there so I don't know for sure, but I would imagine the teacher was trying to deflect some of the criticism. I want DS to defend his beliefs, but I am not sure middle school is the place to do that. Too late now. :headache: He is better at telling why he is FOR his candidate as opposed to why he is AGAINST the other guy. He also gets things very, very confused so his point comes across all gobbledy. I explained something to him the other night and it sounds like he tried to use MY example, but he left out KEY components so it was completely lame. Maybe sometimes I give him too much credit for what he can actually understand.

I hope he has a good day today. Maybe they will do something a bit less controversial, like read a nice textbook or something.

I still feel so very crappy. I am so sick I couldn't even go to work.

All of the pictures are great. I enjoyed looking at them all.:goodvibes :goodvibes

On a good note, our ME tags are here.:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I'm going back to bed.

Feel better, Stephanie!

Princess should have a "broken record" costume. "Is it trick-or-treat yet? Is it trick-or-treat yet? Is it trick-or-treat yet? When? When? When?" :rolleyes1

Stephanie sorry to hear you are not feeling well

:yay: for ME tags!

Yea for not having to cook! I have a pot of chili cooking, thanks for the idea Debbie :thumbsup2 Which brings me to a question for you all, how do you make your chili? I use tomato juice & I usually end up with horrible heartburn :guilty: I think I need to try a new recipe that I can eat & not pay for it afterwords!

The chili from Wendy's does not bother me at all :confused3

I hope Rachel & her friends have a good turnout for their Haunted House!

Tom looks like Leighanna had a lot of fun!

I am making my chili for a chili cook off on Sunday. I've never used tomato juice. When I get home I can post the easy peasy recipe if you would like.

all right here it is...this is actually Jim's aunt's recipe with some modifications:

1 lg can chili beans
1 regular can kidney beans
1 can tomato soup
1 regular can tomato sauce (or canned tomatoes...I've never used these)
1 sm. can tomato paste
1 can mushrooms (I HATE mushrooms so I don't put these in)
1 to 1 1/2 browned hamburger, onions browned with it (I use closer to the 1 and 1/2)

the rest is spices added to your taste:

chili powder
Thyme (watch out with this one...a little bit goes A LONG WAY)
Bay leaves (I use 4-6 for each batch..make sure to take out before serving...you can tell when this is missing)
seasoned salt (this is where I use Mrs's Janes)
garlic salt
celery salt (less than a tablespoon is enough)
dry mustard
sugar (I have never ever put sugar in my chili...it is so mild there isn't any bite to it)

mix together in a crockpot and cook on low 8-10 hours stirring every once in awhile.

We serve with sour cream, cheese, fritos, onions, tortillas, cornbread, anything we can get our hands on:rotfl:

I used to love that Beauty and the Beast show! Ron Perlman and Linda What's-Her-Name. Kind of hokey, but I never missed an episode.

Linda Hamilton. Hal and I always watched the show too. yeah it was hokey, but we watched it!!!!!

we've had strange trick or treaters....including one gentleman with less teeth in his mouth than me (he was with a bunch of kids so I still gave him candy).

We also had a group of 6 high school boys....all but one in costume and all very polite so they also got treats. (I've also seen them at the football games but I didn't figure I'd embarrass them that way) I did see where one DIS'er makes those who aren't dressed in costume dance for treats...I still may try that one!!:rotfl:

Here are a few pictures from today

We had a good night. We hit the local mini mall and did trick or treat there, visited my great aunt as she loves to see the kids costumes every year. From there we hit my parent's house and a few houses in their neighborhood. We went to Pumpkin in the Park which was hosted by our local rec dept. Hunter ended up wearing the Mr. Potato Head Costume as Nick was too cool to wear it around his peers. Hunter won a trophy for most original. That means they each won a costume prize this year. I was glad that each of them had the opportunity to win. We did a few houses in our neighborhood on the way home and the kids are now watching some show on Disney. It got really cold out tonight. I guess my costume was a snow bunny as I had on my parka, hat, gloves and winter boots :rotfl:

I just got home too--after posting, my family called to go to dinner, then my uncle and i ended up going out for a couple of rrinks..now im home and relaxing!
