DDA Chapter 14

What limo company have you all used most recently? In the past we always used Tiffany Town Cars but it appears that none of the sites that used to recommend them do so any more. Looks like most places suggest Happy Limo (hate that name!) and ***********.
I used Tiffany in October and had no problems. We had the same driver for all three legs and he offered to make two grocery stops for us - one going to the cruise and one stop from the cruise to our hotel stay - even though there is only one "scheduled" stop.

The Virginia NAACP sued Gov. Tim Kaine on Monday, arguing that the state failed to prepare for an unprecedented turnout of voters in next week's presidential election. The complaint alleged that with record increases in voter registration, the state failed to provide enough polling places.

They say the only way to prevent the problems they are alleging is to keep the polls open until 10:00. The suit will be heard later today in Richmond.

Hmm. I wonder how that will go? I would think it wouldn't pass, but keeping Virginia polls open until California polls close MIGHT work. Interesting.

We used Murray Hill on our first trip, but we have used ME ever since. I thought our service was good. Our return flight left at like 6 AM so the poor guy had to come get us from Pop at 4 AM. :scared:

Here is what we decided on.

Eric likes this one much more, so I think this is what we'll go with. He says we now need a stocked wine rack to complete the look.

I love it! :thumbsup2

I find it very interesting that QU IC K SIL VER was asterisked out by the DIS!

We always have had great service with Tiffany. Brian was always our favorite driver but I don't know if he is still there or not. I know they have changed hands at least once.

DH called this morning to tell me DS left his ID badge in the car. Perfect. DS will have to pay $5 for a temp badge (which is actually a sticker). I made him use his own money because there is NO REASON to take that badge off in the car. It needs to be around his neck until he gets inside the house. He NEVER went a single day without his badge last year. I have no clue how he managed to leave it in the car.

Today they are taking band pictures, tomorrow they are taking regular pictures. I need to figure out which "package" we want of the regular ones. The band ones don't have to be pre-ordered - we pick which ones we want AFTER they are taken (novel concept, huh?).

We got an EOB from the insurance yesterday. Apparently there is a $50 lab bill from DH's colonoscopy on the way, along with a bill for DSs FluMist for $25. :headache: I have really had enough of Dr. bills for this month!

Happy Anniversary Marci & Randi :goodvibes

Gary & I were married 19 years ago as of yesterday.

Congrats! I hope you had a terrific anniversary!

Mac -- I was sorry to hear about the passing of your wives randfather. I hope you find a job soon. Have you tried contract work or a temp service? They even have ones in big D for Executive Temps!

So I just got off of a phone pre-interview for the gatekeeper of companies looking to hire that I keep doing the 2nd round of information for...so that means I made it to the fourth of what seems to be a gazillion steps with one of the positions. :cool1:

The first funeral today I was in charge of the bulletin for...I thought it was quite funny how God took that time to remind me of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.."a time to" .

I hope the job pans out for you. Hang in there!

Wow, lots of great designs. Maybe each team member could wear a different design :confused3

I survived subbing. I taught two Spanish classes which is funny because I've never taken spanish :rotfl: I just read them a couple of books and muttled my way through a few words. I did learn that Tortuga means tortoise though :lmao: I also did one period of lunchroom monitor and one silent reading period. The rest of the day I spent doing data entry in the office. The good news is that the office loves to have me and asked me if I would train to be their back up. The principal asked if I would be willing to drive the little bus/van if they need coverage. Hopefully my willingness to do many tasks will give me many days

I managed to carve out about an hour at home before I head to work tonight. I haven't heard a word from MIL so I need to get that info soon as we need to make plans for Halloween and the weekend.

The subbing sounds great! I especially like that they said Colby was welcome.

I hope so, too! :rotfl2: Happy Birthday to Christopher!! :cool1:

Deb, it sounds like you had a really good day at the school! I think it would be fun to do different tasks around the classes, office, etc.

I just spoke to the mom who is hosting the Halloween party. I think she sounds pretty competent. It clearly states on the invite that the kids are NOT allowed to leave the party without an adult, so I won't have to worry about DS wandering off unattended. I think DS will have fun.

Princess had her little Halloween party today. She said she had a cookie. It didn't have M&Ms or candy corn on it. It had SPRINKLERS! (Think she meant sprinkles? :rotfl2: )

I loved this!!!!

I think at least Chris should make a quick appearance on Friday, to support his mom.

I agree. Can he go around 5:45 to give his Mom a hug and pay his respects? That shows he cares, but they should understand --it's Halloween!

Bernadette - great costumes!

I agree -- you are really quiet good. I hope the kids appreciate you!

For what they are worth... why did I forget my camera yesterday???

Tiff left us at the port one year when a hurricane came, causing damage and mayhem. We were late getting off the ship, so I called to let them know. They took passengers off another ship that came in before us and left us STRANDED! Southern E l e g a n c e has been great for us and we did use a credit card.

Tammi-'s and strength to get through today.

Theresa- Continued 's. Thanks for the update on Glynis.

Deb- I agree that Chris should at least make an appearance tomorrow night. Yay for all the subbing!!

Bernadette- Love the costumes! Enjoy your DSLR.

Tom- Leighanna's outfit is adorable!!

Elizabeth- Enjoy your costume hunt!

Elin- Cute kiddos!!

Here is what we decided on.

I like that border and agree -- tell Eric he needs to stock the wine rack!

Tammi -- thinking of you and the family today.

Thanks for the good thoughts on our anniversary yesterday. :goodvibes

We certainly did have lots of drama. I had Andrew start his homework on the way home from work yesterday. One of our neighbor's kept texting him, so I told Andrew to text him that he's doing homework and to quit texting him, that he'll call him when we get home. Andrew told me he would call him, and I told him three times not to -- I try to be concious of using up minutes on kids' phones. Most parents put unlimited texting but not a lot of minutes on those phones. Anyway, Andrew called him so I took his phone away and turned it off. We went straight to the jiffy lube place to have the car inspected when we got to Kaufman. When they finished, I got in the car and saw the phone was missing. Of course, no one would admit to taking it. I was furious -- I begged, I told them I wouldn't prosecute, I said they could keep the phone that I just want the SIM card etc. Of course, no one would admit to it.

Five minutes after I got home the owner called me. He was furious too, but he was in Dallas and said he couldn't search them anyway. He did offer to pay for the phone, but that's not the point. The point is someone lifted it, it will take time to replace it, and Andrew will lose all of his numbers/music/pictures etc. Dad said I should have called the police, but they couldn't have searched them other. Between that and Randy working late, it wasn't a memorable anniversary. That's okay -- we are going out for a nice dinner on Saturday and the day could have been much worse.

I just feel so guilty that I didn't put it in my purse. Andrew was upset, and though he wouldn't admit it, I think he knows that it really stems to him not minding me.

Off to get some more work done. Merrie was in at 6:45 this morning for a call from Switzerland, and in between those calls I actually got her to answer a lot of my questions about client Christmas projects, so I better get busy!

Robyn - I think I like that border better. It isn't quite as busy as the first one.

I love it! :thumbsup2

Definitely not as busy and more kitcheny (ok, so it's not a word)

I figured you'd like Elin! :teeth:

My plan is to strip that wallpaper off the paneling and texture the paneling with drywall compound and then paint it.

Here is a pic from the nursing home ToT.
P1030203.jpg

Emma looks a little ragged, we didn't have time to finish getting her ready. My mom told me it started at 7pm and at 6:05 she called and said it started at 6  We dashed out of here as quickly as we could and made it there my 6:32. See the rainbow 'fro, that's my cousin's DD. She was a snowball and wouldn't look up. Surprisingly, my grandmother knew who everyone was. When my mom takes Emma to visit my grandmother always calls her Robyn. And she thinks that Alyssa is my sister, I'm guessing she doesn't notice Alyssa's skin color! :rotfl:

Some lady in a wheel chair wheeled herself over to Lucy and I and wanted to hold Lucy. She thought she was adorable and Lucy took right to her. It was very cute.

We tried to see my Uncle Buck but he is not at all happy that he is there and doesn't want any visitors.:sad1: He recovered well from the bout of pneumonia, amazing at 96 years young. His mind is all there and still razor sharp. I think he is just depressed being there. My mom and aunts have been trying to convince his son to move him back home with a caretaker.

Really? That doesn't happen around here. We use our schools as polling places. So the kids get a day off! We also us Fire and Police Stations.

Most polls around here used to be schools, but they pulled them out and reassigned a few years ago. I have a feeling it came around the same time that they started really the more locked up school, visitors badges for everyone, etc stuff. More of a safety concern. Our polling place is a church now. The voting is either in a white, nondescript hallway or the fellowship hall type room which is just a big white room with a few bulletin boards, a soda machine and a kitchen in the back.

Deb - thank you so much for the card.

Today was very difficult, but I'm relieved that it's one more step toward all this being over with. They were able to have an open casket, but he really had the make-up caked on. I'm just thankful I got to see him one last time. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. I truly appreciate it.

Our prayers are with you all still.

I've decided I am resigned....I never thought I would be that way.

:grouphug:

What a day. The best part is that it is over :rotfl:

MIL called. It appears that they have scheduled the wake for 6-8 pm on Friday, yep on Halloween :confused3 I cannot think of a worse day of the year to have a wake. The funeral will be on Saturday at 11 am. We are torn on what to do. We did not care for the man, but feel that we should be there to support his mother. On the other hand we feel like we have an obligation to our kids to take them to Halloween activities. My Mom will take them to bowling league on Saturday so Chris and I will attend the funeral. Do you think it is ok to skip the wake? I wonder how many people will even show up on Friday for the wake?

If there's no way to drop by after the kids stuff, then I think the funeral will be fine. You'll still get a chance to be there for MIL, but also for your kids. I'm so glad that the subbing and school options seem to be opening up for you. That is wonderful!

I seem to have lost a few multi quotes along the way so...

Happy Anniversary Marci and Randy!

Happy Anniversary Janet and Gary!

Happy Birthday Christopher!

Your suggestion for Mac about the temp agency is a great one. Joe's old roomate does exactly that and has steady work when he needs it. He is an actor and does a lot of work on cruises but it's not steady so he relies on the temp jobs to get him through.

Sorry yesterday wasn't such a great day. Here's to a fabulous night out Saturday!:wizard: That is horrible that Andrew's phone was stolen, hope you can get it replaced without much trouble. I am horrible about leaving my phone, GPS and Ipod visible in the car, guess it's a good reminder for us all.

Good morning, DDA!

Not too much here today. I have the baby all day, though she hasn't arrived yet. Kristi's kids will be in and out a few times, but never for too long. Mostly, I've just got to put away laundry and get some of my Girl Scout planning done.

I've also got to figure out our plans for tomorrow. Everyone is trick or treating here, but several don't get off of work until 5 or 5:30 so we'll be cutting it close. I suggested to Erin that I thought we needed a Chick Fil A nugget tray for dinner, but don't know how that went over. I'll have to get Mom or Kristi to suggest it again. Things coming out of my mouth rarely go over well with her. If Mom or Kristi say the exact same thing, it's a much better idea and much more well-received.

Tonight though, I think I'm going to make a Pumpkin Pasta I saw on 30 minute meals yesterday. It sounds really yummy. I'm thinking that I could add some sausage meatballs to go with it. Does that sound like it would work?

There was some controversy around 6 months ago on the transportation boards.....as much as I love the DIS...I don't think how it was resolved was very equitable...basically all non sponsors were banned

Marci-I am sorry about the phone and a not so good anniversary day..hopefully your date will be much better!!

Tia-if I liked pumpkin other than in a bread that would probably sound better than it does. :rotfl:

That sounds like a great combination to me, Tia! :thumbsup2

Terra and I, and Phil to an extent, are total pumpkin fiends. Anything and everything pumpkin is good for us. I had a pumpkin raviloi a few years ago and haven't found a pasta recipe to match it yet. I'm hoping this will be good.

I had pumpkin ravioli at a local restaurant for brunch a few weeks ago. It was served in a browned butter sauce with fresh sage... delicious but they topped it with a drizzle of maple syrup which just about ruined the entire dish for me! :confused3

Elin, not sure if you found a town car service yet.

We always use Tiffany and have never had a problem.
As a matter of fact we used them just this past Jan. our driver was an older gentleman and he gave us his card. Let me know if you want his name and number.

I'm glad you mentioned sage. I think I'm going to get sage sausage and use that either to make meatballs or just brown up and mix in with the pasta.
