DDA Chapter 14

This is the last year we will be voting with our lever voting machines. They have been around for as long as I can remember, and I think it is a good system. I'll have to see what happens next year when we change the process. Maybe lines will get longer.

I thought everyone had early voting?

We have had it a few years.

I'm pretty sure that NYS doesn't. I hadn't heard about it until this year. Is there a specified time period that you can vote? Do you vote differently than you would if you voted on Election Day? How do they keep track of who is eligible to vote (and hasn't already voted)?

Our early voting started on the 20th....it ends this Friday. You check in with your driver's license and they enter into the computer system. So if you tried to vote again, it would tell when and where you have already voted.

No...we always knew who we would vote for. For us it was just a matter of convenience. We were in and out in the car within 15 minutes.

So sad. :sad2:

Mac - Please give our condolences to Naomi and her family. Good wishes for you to find a new job soon! :wizard:

It appears that I will NOT be voting today because it gets crazier and crazier over there! People are just parking in the street, which has completely blocked off an entire lane. :scared: Unfortunately I don't have a back up plan. I will have Princess all day, every day after today, including election day. There is no way she will sit nicely in her stroller for a line that is several hours long. I don't know what I am going to do. I guess I need to have a chat with my bosses because I am not seeing a way to make this work.

I went to the mall where I didn't find anything to wear to the party OR any gifts for Princess to give to her friends OR a costume for DS. :headache: This day is not going the way I wanted it to!

What location are you trying to vote at? I need to go do this.

I am trying to debate if I want to go to Obama's election night party...we have 2 tickets...I feel so old...when I heard the starting time of 8:30 I just groaned.

Thanks for the information! When I asked if you vote differently, I meant the actual method of voting. If I had to face hour+ lines, I'd definitely want early voting, too.

Also, it sounds like some people can choose where they want to vote. We can vote at only one polling place that is tied to our home address. It would be much more convenient for us, if we could pick a different polling place.

I know what you mean. It seems like things that require any extra effort or being outside my comfort range (late nights, crowds, etc) seem to make me reconsider these days. I am getting old!

Morning DDA!

I'm going to enable everyone this morning! I've been dying for this one particular digital picture frame for a while now and we didn't get it from our registry. Well, we were going to break down and buy it this weekend. BUT I got an email from Kodak - they were offering it for $100 OFF!!! So I bought it! (Bob might not be happy given we also got my car fixed at a cost of $300 and bought the new fridge, but it's definately $150 well spent in my opinion!)

The 10 inch digital frame is $149 and the 8 inch digital frame is $124. I love the fact that you can send pictures right to the frame without connecting it to a computer! You just upload pictures to the gallery and poof! :teeth: I know, the little things amaze me sometimes.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Awesome deal Chanon!

my "moment" when I knew when I was old was when I walked into a bar and said, "eeewww it's so loud and smoky in here"

I've always been old in that regard. I'm sensitive to both noise and smoke. Of course, my family has been teasing me lately about the volume level of the tv, so maybe I'm getting less sensitive to noise. :rotfl:

Mac and Naomi- Lots of prayers and :wizard: headed your way on all fronts.

Tammi-'s to you for today and tomorrow.

Marci- Happy Anniversary to you and Randy:love:

Chanon- Thanks for the enabling, my mom and grandmother are all done now!

Elizabeth- I hope that you can work out a plan for election day. Our polls are never, ever busy.

Deb- Loved the start of your trip report. I am glad you all finally got a table at T-Rex

Check out this blog The author posts on the Dis and this cake is fabulous.

thanks for the dittoable post, Robyn!!:thumbsup2

We don't have early voting. Can someone please explain it to me? Is this the first year that everyone hasn't had to vote on Election Day or am I just really out of it? We don't seem to have long lines at the polling places here, but I think that's just because we're in a small area. I can't imagine having to wait several hours to vote.

You go to the polling place and just do your ballot the way you normally would. UNLESS you are in my precinct, then you just get really, really AGGRAVATED!

Our Redeemer Lutheran at Park Ln. & Boedecker.

Ooh! If I lived closer I would go with you! How fun!

Happy Anniversary to you and Gary!!!

Happy Anniversary, Janet & Gary!! :)

I need to confirm that I HAVE to vote at that specific location. If I don't then there is another location near work where the lines are NOT out the door, down the stairs, around the building.

What do you think of this for a kitchen border?

justborderscom_2023_5835044

I like it but for a border I think it depends on the size of the kitchen.

I guess it's not helping you a lot, Elizabeth. Sorry that it's so aggravating! I was so spoiled up to a couple of years ago, because our polling place was in the elementary school that is right behind our house. If it looked at all crowded, I could walk home and try again. The school decided that they didn't want people in and out all day twice a year, so it's been moved to a fire hall about 5 miles away. I haven't ever been in a long line, though. Of course, I have been able to vote during the day.

On a sad note though, my wife lost her Grandfather on Monday. He went out for a morning walk and someone found him laying on the sidewalk, unable to be revived. So she is over at her families taking care of her senial Grandmother, while her parents plan a funeral, arraingments and such in Iowa.

So please keep her in your thoughts. We could also use a few well placed thoughts for finances and job opportunities. Five months has gotten pretty tough on the savings and now I'm selling items that were suppose to be gifts for Birthdays and Christmas for the kids.

Mac sorry to hear about the passing of your wives grandfather

:wizard: that the right job will find you soon!

this is the first year they've really been touting it (around here at least) but we've always had some form of early voting...mainly by mail in ballot.

We haven't ever had to wait too long in line but this year may be different as we have a honking big ballot (seriously I think it's going to be 18 pages long) AND we are a contested county in a hottly contested state...don't I feel special??:rotfl2:
