I'm going to scraplift. Thank you to all the veterans and their families for all you do to protect our country and it's people.

Your area sounds a lot like ours, though our schools are a little bigger. We are also beginning to get an influx of people from downstate who found that they can live less expensively here making their welfare checks go further. I know that sounds mean/prejudiced against the less well-off, and I am thankful that we have so much, but it is the truth.

We had the same thing in the U.P. when I was in high school. It was less expensive to live but many did it to avoid finding a job (as the unemployment rate is higher because there just weren't any jobs to have). I am not prejudice against the less well off - only those that don't want to make a better life for themself and just believe others should support them forever.

I would be highly irked if somebody gave out my number! I would just keep calling and let them know they are really making this process more difficult than it should be. If you get voice mail I would call every few minutes and hang up if you don't get a live person. I was trying to reach someone at Coke about a sponsorship one year and I must have called that woman 80 times in a single day. She did finally answer the phone. :rolleyes1

What a surprise? Not meek little Elizabeth? :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

So I really want dinner at the California Grill and John has agreed. But! and its a big but, if John has to get all decked out we won't be eating there.

So what is the dress code? Suite and tie for the men, dress for the ladies.
Or a little more casual... say dockers and a polo for the men and slacks and blouse for the ladies?

I'm not even sure that Chuck & I were that dressy. Chuck & I wore kahki pants. I think he wore a short sleeve button shirt because that is his normal attire at Disney. I think I wore a dressy tshirt.

I'm sure this has already been answered, but you will see everything there....from all gussied up to shorts and polos.

I was checking the USPS site again last night in hopes that a Holiday Casual position would open up. Our main post office usually hires several people to work during the holiday season to help with the increased mail. Nothing had been posted so I almost gave up hope. Anyway the position was posted yesterday. It is an overnight shift so it will have a shift differential as well as very good part time pay. 30 hours per week. I filled out the application and submitted it around midnight last night. I could use all the pixie dust you can spare that I get this job. It's only a 5 or 6 week postition, but it will go a very long way to paying off that new furnace and putting a little money back in our savings. I HATE not having some sort of savings to fall back on. :wizard:

Yes!!!

When we finally talked "face-to-face" on the phone later on Saturday she said she didn't understand why I kept asking her to find out the file extension. It had a file extension but it wasn't coming through when she forwarded it to me. All I got was "Fall." She said, it is some stupid Word document I can't open... .docx

My exact words were: #@%&*@ %^&@#$!$%&* #$%@* (or something like that!). If she had told me that on TUESDAY I could have told her it was in Word 2007 and all she needed was a converter for her Word 2003 that she could download from the Microsoft site! :headache:

I opened it and sent it to her within 30 seconds... the writing sample went off within a couple of hours.

I have similar experiences with Katrina and Becky. Very frustrating! You know you could help them if they would just get their ego out of it.

My grandpa was also a WWI vet with a Purple Heart. And My Dad was a WWII vet. So is my FIL. Oddly enough, none of the younger men in my family served in Vietnam.
Just to show the generation gap here, my dad is a Vietnam Vet.

No school today & no work for me, so we all slept in!

Good morning :)

I received a phone call yesterday from the hotel/casino that Gary & I occasionally stay at. I have been given a free nights stay with 2 free buffets. We have to use this before the end of the month, I was very surprised to say the least! Gary & I are not big gamblers(well Gary does not play much & I just play the penny slots lol), so they must be hurting as well :confused3

Anyway I am hoping we can take advantage & get away for the night. We do not have extra spending money at the moment, but the room & dinner would be nice ::yes::

Tammi-this is just a wonderful sentiment and picture.

Thank you to all service men and women and their families for the sacrifices they have made for us to have the freedoms we take for granted.

The first time Stephanie and I went, we wore khaki and matching shirts. The next time I wore nice capris and a t-shirt.

Hi from North Carolina!

Went house hunting this weekend. Also went to the school district admin building to get all the info on the schools & special programs for Daniel. I was very content with what they told us. We found a couple of homes that fit our bill. We took the kids to play mini golf this afternoon so they could have a break from being dragged from house to house & sitting in the car most of the day. We took Katie to the HS we are looking at for her & she was thrilled at the acting & dance classes that they offer. I think that made things feel better for her. She is sitting her writing little notes on the school in her notebook.

:flower3: to everyone!!!

Sounds like some good progress. I'm glad that Katie is finding things to be excited about.

Is she allowed to wear goggles, Tia? Kristin didn't learn to swim until she was almost 8 years old because she would not put her face in the water. My boss happens to be a Red Cross certified swimming instructor and taught swimming at our pool a number of years ago. She took one look at Kristin in the water and said, "Buy that kid some goggles and I will have her swimming within the week!" I did and she was!

She did wear goggles some, but I think it's her nose she's got to get past first. Once her nose hits the water, she jerks her head up. The ears were a problem too until the instructor held her in a way that allowed her to cover Terra's ears while she practiced the floats. Total night and day difference in her body positioning and relaxation.

OK, I am asking for major good thoughts and PD for Kathrin on Thursday. She sent in a writing sample to The Princeton Review after her initial interview last week. They received it this morning and by this afternoon at 2:00 they had set up a full day of follow-up interviews with everyone from the HR person to the management in the Boston office to her potential boss and the rest of the staff.

This sounds very promising to me but I toned down my exuberance when I talked to her on the phone. She is excited enough as it is.

Anyway... start sending PD about 10:00 a.m. on 11/13 (one month to the day since she was let go...).

That sounds promising to me too! Many buckets of good wishes headed Boston way.

That sounds like a great opportunity for you, Deb. I hope that it works out!
