DDA Chapter 14

So I really want dinner at the California Grill and John has agreed. But! and its a big but, if John has to get all decked out we won't be eating there.

So what is the dress code? Suite and tie for the men, dress for the ladies.
Or a little more casual... say dockers and a polo for the men and slacks and blouse for the ladies?

Polo and khaki shorts are FINE. That's what DS and DH wore. I wore shorts and some sort of not-very-dressy shirt.

I was checking the USPS site again last night in hopes that a Holiday Casual position would open up. Our main post office usually hires several people to work during the holiday season to help with the increased mail. Nothing had been posted so I almost gave up hope. Anyway the position was posted yesterday. It is an overnight shift so it will have a shift differential as well as very good part time pay. 30 hours per week. I filled out the application and submitted it around midnight last night. I could use all the pixie dust you can spare that I get this job. It's only a 5 or 6 week postition, but it will go a very long way to paying off that new furnace and putting a little money back in our savings. I HATE not having some sort of savings to fall back on. :wizard:

Good luck! :wizard:

When is the free dining promotion? I received an email with a pin number...but I am confused (yeah, yeah, nothing new)

Haven't heard of that one! :confused3

I had an extra dollar in my pocket last night at the grocery store, so I bought a scratch-off lottery ticket in hopes of winning enough for a WDW trip. I can't completely complain, I won $5 from my $1 investment. I think that's better than the stock market these days. :rotfl: I don't usually play the lottery, but it's fun on rare occasions and even better when I win something.

DS likes $1 scratch offs. :)

I am not sure what I am talking about....the email says April - June for free dining...is this a new promo...or an ongoing one?

Hmm. I'll have to watch my e-mail!

What a surprise? Not meek little Elizabeth? :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I believe the word you were looking for was "tenacious". ;)

I received a phone call yesterday from the hotel/casino that Gary & I occasionally stay at. I have been given a free nights stay with 2 free buffets. We have to use this before the end of the month, I was very surprised to say the least! Gary & I are not big gamblers(well Gary does not play much & I just play the penny slots lol), so they must be hurting as well :confused3

Anyway I am hoping we can take advantage & get away for the night. We do not have extra spending money at the moment, but the room & dinner would be nice ::yes::

Neat! Hope you guys can work that out!

Off to cooking.

It depends on where you are staying. The baseball stadium is in Arlington, and I don't know that area AT ALL. Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor are right there with the stadium if you are looking for theme park stuff.

I looked at Restaurant.com the other day and for my zip code there was NOTHING, but there again, it depends on where you will be staying.

The Science Place and Natural History Museum are in Fair Park near downtown Dallas, and the Dallas World Aquarium is downtown. Those are good places to go to get out of the heat. The Science Place has an IMAX theater and a planetarium, but Virginia might be too young for those. We have that new American Girl store at the Galleria if you think the girls would like to see that.

All good suggestions. There are also several nice water parks around here, that would be cheaper and probably less crowded then Hurricane Harbor.

Fly-by picture post.... gotta feed girls and get to the grocery store :)

Very cute! Thanks for posting.

We have had a membership for such a long time I have lost track of admission prices. :rotfl2: Having the membership for Waco sounds like it would work well for you guys!

I got an e-mail yesterday that the Dallas zoo has 2 new giraffes. They are really pushing to finish a new elephant habitat quickly because there has been a lot of controversy over the elephant. They had 2 elephants, but one died. Apparently they were treating her for one thing, but she actually had some other ailment with symptoms that mimic what they were treating her for. Now there is just one elephant left. They were planning to transfer her, but a bunch of protesters raised a big ruckus so they are keeping her, building a new habitat, and looking for a companion for her. The enclosure she is in is from back in the 1950's and it is pretty terrible, so I hope her new space opens soon!

Did you see that Lily Tomlin was in town a few weeks ago lobbying for the city council to send the elephant to another zoo?

Got a new ticker.

We debated between Jan. or Dec. 2009
Dec. won out as we would be able to stay POFQ, if we went in Jan. we would have to stay Pop and John was not happy about that. Also we love all the decorations and the Christmas party. But the biggest reason for Dec. is John is determined to stay Contemporary once, so we have longer to save for it.

Congrats!

Thanks, Beth! I had one student tonight say (in a very loud voice), "Mrs. H... did you dye your hair red???"

His mom said, "And it looks VERY nice, Mrs. H. Right, Andrew?"

She said it three times before he caught on. :rotfl:

I told him I didn't dye it, my hairdresser did, and that it was actually purple and the class said,

"COOL!" :cool2: (:rotfl2:  :rotfl: )

:rotfl: And you are a cool music teacher!

Hi from North Carolina!

Went house hunting this weekend. Also went to the school district admin building to get all the info on the schools & special programs for Daniel. I was very content with what they told us. We found a couple of homes that fit our bill. We took the kids to play mini golf this afternoon so they could have a break from being dragged from house to house & sitting in the car most of the day. We took Katie to the HS we are looking at for her & she was thrilled at the acting & dance classes that they offer. I think that made things feel better for her. She is sitting her writing little notes on the school in her notebook.

:flower3: to everyone!!!

That sounds like terrific news! I hope everything continues to fall in to place.

I agree with you whole-heartedly, Marci. For the past two years Bob has worked long, hard hours to be the only certified designer in his office and to renew his Quality Assurance certification too. The girls and I have hounded him about asking for more money from the beginning of this because he is actually doing the work of two people since he is the only QA person in the company. But he has consistently refused to do so.

I know now that one reason he is fairly safe (never say never) is because of those certifications. He has made himself extremely useful (dare I say indispensable??) and he said last week that he knows they would be in trouble if they had to let him go.

The more Randy can work into those other aspects of his company, the better off he is, I do believe. Best of luck to him! :thumbsup2

Good for Bob. He's smart to work hard to make sure he has job security.

Randy didn't get in until 4:30 this morning. I couldn't sleep for worrying about him driving home and falling asleep on the highway. Then I really couldn't go back to sleep after he got home. I had to go in late to work so I could take the kids to school. I hate that traffic in the rain! Randy works less than 10 minutes from the school, but it took me another 30 minutes to get to work. I'm just so glad he seems to be doing well. He's still one of the newest employees, so I can't help but worry.

This GS stuff is going to push me over the edge. I got a phone call from a dad of girl that attends the school we used to meet. He wanted information on our Brownie troop so his daughter can join. We aren't technically a troop yet and I have parents calling us. :headache: I had to politely tell him that until we are official there isn't much I can do at this point. I think he thought I was a total idiot as I bumbled my way through the call.

Not to mention I told the girl at council that I wanted our troop closed. We didn't want any new members. I felt bad because I am not going to be the official leader for the troop. Since there are only 5 of us we are all taking the training and being certified as leaders. I can't make that decision by myself.

I also want to know who gave out my number. I'm pretty sure I know who it was but want to know for certain before she gets a piece of my mind.

What a mess. It's harder than anything I've done trying to get someone to call me back from the council to get things rolling. :sad2:

I think it is ridiculous that you can't get help from the GS. It's problems like these that lead to people not wanting to volunteer. I realize GS might be busy, but they need to make time IMO.

OK, I am asking for major good thoughts and PD for Kathrin on Thursday. She sent in a writing sample to The Princeton Review after her initial interview last week. They received it this morning and by this afternoon at 2:00 they had set up a full day of follow-up interviews with everyone from the HR person to the management in the Boston office to her potential boss and the rest of the staff.

This sounds very promising to me but I toned down my exuberance when I talked to her on the phone. She is excited enough as it is.

Anyway... start sending PD about 10:00 a.m. on 11/13 (one month to the day since she was let go...).

You got 'em!

I had a chance to talk to Hunter's Social Studies teacher today. He got a B- in that class with a notation that he did not complete work that he missed while we were on vacation. He says that she has no idea what he missed. She said that she had assigned him to find out about Christopher Columbus while we were in the Bahamas. He didn't realize that he was supposed to turn anything in and when she asked him if he learned about Christopher Columbus he said no. The reality is that he didn't learn anything that he didn't already know, but he spent and entire day asking questions of the locals only to get no information. There wasn't even a history museum there. He took photos of the Columbus statue and mural and all of the old buildings etc. The teacher also said that his primary teacher reminded him a couple of times :confused3 I'll get to the bottom of that tomorrow at his conference. Tonight I helped him write a paper detailing his research and I printed 30 photos. I think it is too late for her to change the grade, but he did do the work. I am also not happy that he did not get a missing work slip or he would have taken care of this a long time ago. Tomorrow's conference should be interesting if nothing else.

I hope all this is straightened out the way it should be today at conferences.

Good morning. It's a holiday here today, but I'm going to work anyway for the overtime. I need a little extra Disney money.

:)

Thank you to our veterans!

Good luck! And good luck at the dentist.

I better get back to work. I volunteered at the book fair this afternoon so I'd better get moving. Have a great day everyone. :)

No pin code for me with the free dining :guilty:

Sorry! It's interesting that there were two pin codes out today. I couldn't use the free dining one either with those dates, but the kids stay, play, and eat free was even more worthless (if that is possible).

Morning, everyone! Our internet has been really wonky lately, so, I haven't been on much. I've read everything, I promise!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Jacob! He loved all of them! His party was a success, and now he's putting together a wish list for Christmas.

Pixie dust being sent to all who need it at this time. I know there were several of you, but I can't remember specifics right now. Sorry.

Anne Marie - Good luck with NC. Sounds like things are looking up for Katie. I'll keep my fingers crossed for y'all.

Deb - Hope you can get things worked out with Hunter's teacher. I know that when I was a teacher, I would rather get work late, than not at all. Hopefully, she'll be willing to work with you.

I've got to run and take Mary to the doctor. She's been complaining of a sore throat for a few days, and I want to have a strep culture done. I'd like to have a house free of strep before the Peanut comes!

Talk to y'all later.

I believe the word you were looking for was "tenacious". ;)

I love teasing you about this but I'm actually envious. I tend to let people walk over me and thank them for doing it. You make sure that you get what you paid for without being belligerant just because you want something.

:wizard: That Mary does not have strep and that the whole family stays Healthy for Peanuts sake as well as theirs.

I ened up having a cavity :sad2: I am not getting it filled until after the first of the year since I have no idea what my schedule will be like the next few months.

Maybe you should start gambling. You were pretty lucky getting the free night and food!

Deb - I sent you an email in case you haven't checked it lately. ETA: Nevermind you just responded.

I found a new blog that I love. The pictures are amazing and I like how the posts are a picture and a few words - and you can click for a printable recipe if needed. http://www.bakeorbreak.com Go there. :teeth:

I am not sure what I am talking about....the email says April - June for free dining...is this a new promo...or an ongoing one?

I hope you got an answer... I dropped out on you here. Sorry. :flower3: Explanation to follow...

That would be wonderful, Janet! I hope you can get away too.
