Thank you very much for the flowers! They are beautiful. You are all wonderful.

The visitation went fine. Chuck's nephew did a slide show of pictures of Mel through the years. It was wonderful - he did it in chronological order. A guy Chuck graduated with commented that he'd never seen Mel without a smile. I said he was a very contented man who loved nothing more than his family and friends and entertaining (grilling) for them. You won't believe all the pictures of grills, open fires with a big old frying pan, steaks, prime ribs, marinated pot roast, etc. that I saw tonight.

My girls aren't here yet. Becky and her boyfriend, Ryan, are just about to our house (maybe an hour away out of a 7 hour drive). Her presentation went really well. Her comment was "Mom we really rocked it". Pete, Katrina's boyfriend, is less than 1/2 hour away from our house. Katrina is at the house alone waiting for everyone to arrive. My mother is here with us. She decided to just stay in the camper rather than go with us to the visitation.

After the visitation, we went to Chuck's brothers for something to eat. I made sloppy joes using Chuck's mom's recipe. They were a big hit.

The funeral is in the morning. They are having a meal at the Eagle River Inn afterwards for those that can attend. The girls will be here for the viewing before the funeral at 10am.

Thanks again for the flowers. It was much appreciated!!!!! What was funny is they were sitting right behind the ones that my family sent. I think that others were wondering who/what in the world was "The DDA". They are a bunch of wonderful women and a couple of wonderful men!!!!

Glynis wasn't kidding when she said her mom was going downhill fast:

My mother passed away tonight at about 8:00 p.m. My brother and father were with her at the end, and said that she was very peaceful. I'm leaving first thing in the morning with my sister to help make arrangements for the viewing and funeral. I'd be grateful if you could pass this information along to the DDA for me.

I am a Great Aunt again! I went to the hospital earlier to meet my new niece, she is so tiny & sweet I wanted to bring her home with me

Hmm. We don't have a shop like that, I don't think!
I wouldn't know good wine if it walked up and bit me. DH and I went to a charity wine tasting and I think I liked 2 out of the 20 we tasted. One was a dessert wine. I can't remember what the other one was. I like Riesling because it is sweet. Once in awhile I will have a glass of white wine. Definitely haven't developed a taste for red.

Chuck's mom is actually doing very well. She looks and acts so much better than she has in a very long time. She is on oxygen (as she needs it). It is making a major difference for her. She was a heavy smoker until about 15 years ago. I think the best thing that could have happened to her was the mild heart attack because she is getting the care that she wouldn't get for herself. She did NOT like going to the doctor at all.

She is an only child of parents that died within a year of each other before she met Mel. She has a couple of cousins but there is very few in her family. Basically, her family was Mel, her kids and grandkids. She is holding up very well but that is her personality. I can tell when she is struggling because she starts to vent to me. I'm happy to be there for her.

Chuck's brother & sister are not talking to each other at all now - something about the eulogy. Grow up already!

Princess and I have cooking class this morning. At least I won't be submerged in water. Cooking is right up there with indoor pools as far as I am concerned.

We really have fallen off the picture taking wagon.

We used to get Leighanna's picture taken every six weeks for the first two years of her life.

Now, we are lucky if we do it once a year. And, this being Oct. we are running out of year!

I will drink wine although I am still not sure I really like it, red or white it really makes no difference. I haven't found one that suits me!

I have only had one wine I have ever liked. That was at California Grill and Terry choice it (well the waiter did for Terry). She let me have a taste of hers and I liked it so Chuck & I both ordered a glass of it. Yummy. I'd be more willing to try to find one I liked if it wasn't so expensive to try something that I am most likely not going to like. It was a sweet wine. Then again, maybe it is better on my pocketbook if I don't like wine. Water and pop are so much less expensive.

My elementary school mascot was a bulldog, my 1st high school was a bee, and the 2nd one that was voted on by the students was knight. (my HS and our rival HS merged my junior year).

Emma's mascot is a lighthouse.

The girls mascot was a ................ car - the Kingsford Flivver. Ford Motor Company built the Flivver in Kingsford way back in the day. So that is their mascot. Very weird!!!! Kingsford was named after the same family that has Kingsford Charcoal. We have one elementary school, one middle school/high school (same building, different cafeterias and gyms).

I graduated from a high school that had the elementary, middle school & high school all in one building. We shared the gym and the cafeteria. The middle school & high school students were basically in the same half of the building together crossing each other in the halls. The elementary school was on the other side of the cafeteria and you didn't run into them unless you saw them on your way to the cafeteria. There were 35 students in my graduating class. I moved from an area that had 3 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and one high school. My 8th grade class had more students in it then my entire K-12 school that I moved into half way through the year. That is the U.P. for you!!!!
