DDA Chapter 13

Good Morning. It was my day to transport the kiddos to school. I stayed and helped make clay pumpkins in Colby's art class. Now I'm home for an hour or so in hopes of getting more accomplished around here. I almost have the laundry done AND put away :rotfl: The put away part seldom happens:lmao:

That sounds like lots of fun! I am glad you got to stay and help! :)

I think that this cold in not going away. I actually feel run down today. Of course I won't have time to hit the doctors until Monday, if I can get in. My hope is that it just disappears over the weekend on its own. If not I will go Monday as I will not be sick for this trip.

I hope it disappears too, Deb. But if not, get to the doctor so you can really enjoy that cruise!

Yuck! I hope the weekend kicks it for you. :wizard: :wizard:

Does anyone else find this a bit disturbing? I'm going over in my mind how I'm going to handle it.

They had a lock-down drill at school today. I didn't know it was going to happen. Nicholas told me about it at home tonight, and explained what procedures they went through. I asked him if he knew why they would have a lock-down, and he did. They he procedes to tell me that his teacher told them about 2 boys that went into a school with guns and killed 8 people in the library, and then they "turned the guns on themselves." He would never know what a phrase like that meant unless someone told him. He said it made him a little scared. This is 3rd grade! I don't think this explanation needed to be given. I work very hard to keep my kids sheltered from this kind of stuff, at least until they are older and better able to process the information. I asked Alyssa what she was told about it and she said lock-downs are just another way to keep them safe, like fire or tornado drills. So I'm debating whether or not I'm just going to address it with the teacher, by phone or email, or take it straight to the principal.

I think her explanation was a bit too graphic. Even if it didn't stress Nicholas out, I promise you there are kids that were stressed by it! Who wants to go to school knowing that some whack job with a gun could come in and mow down dozens of people? Too much info. Approach the teacher and just let her know it wasn't quite appropriate.

I like him already. :)

He's pretty cool. ;) We don't see him often because he lives in Germany. When the Uncles go to Europe he usually meets up with them somewhere.

What can I say, I have always been the responsible one.
For what its worth, Dawn would have tried to convince ya to stay home and would have offered to call your boss and tell him/her you wouldn't be in.

Dawn and I DO have quite a bit in common! :rotfl2:

Question...

for those with appropriately aged daughters...did you have them get the Gardasil vaccine (cervical cancer)

I am not granola by any stretch....but I am a little leery of new vaccines...but with all I have read, I am thinking I should get Jackie in for it.

If DS was a girl I would vaccinate him. I told Mom to get the vaccine for Diva. The reason is this: HPV lesions provide a gateway into the bloodstream for HIV. The vaccine info doesn't say that, and the doctors won't tout it as a benefit, but it is true. They are billing it as a preventative measure for certain strains of cervical cancer, and it IS, but it is also a measure of protection against HIV. Obviously HIV infections happen in women without HPV, but I think women with HPV are more susceptible. Just something else to factor in.

We are headed to Chuck E. Cheese shortly. Of course this would have been a day to plan something outside since the rain is headed this way.

Marci - Monday might only be sort of rainy. It looks like 100% coverage of rain on Tuesday, which is when we are going to the Fair. Princess is going to think it rains every time we go somewhere with DH. I've been to the fair in the rain before and it wasn't fun, but that is the only day we can go so I guess we'll get rained on. :headache:

So what's everyone else have planned for the weekend?

Sounds like yours is jam-packed, Tia!

I have a fun weekend ahead of me. It starts off with me having to teach the 2 classes for my co-worker again, but that will be over at 8:00 tonight.

Tomorrow evening Tammi and I are going to the new wine bar that we have been talking about. We will have dinner and drinks and lots of chatter, I am sure!

Sunday morning I am meeting another DISer for brunch. One of these times we are going to be able to get Tammi and Joanne and me together at the same time, I hope.

Our weekend weather is supposed to be glorious. Mid to upper 70s and sunny. :goodvibes

Good Morning-

This is homecoming weekend so today I will take pics of the homecoming parade and then I will work the football game. Tomorrow Cassidy has practice in the morning and then is going over to a "potluck" dinner and then off to homecoming.

The band parents have been invited to a party and I feel bad for Abi because Jim and I want to go so bad but of course it's not a whole family party.

Sunday we will be cleaning

I am sure I will end up getting her the gardasil one....I still haven't gotten her the chicken pox one....but we are taking all 3 for the Flu shot on Tuesday...so I guess that will be my opportunity to discuss things more.

I have a somewhat dim view on the medical profession on a whole so that doesn't help things....(stems from my father's death etc)

I really have to make a decision on a moderate today. There are room only discounts available to the general public for the same price as the AP rates! So now I can save even more money. I will not renew our APs since our next trip won't be until next October. The bounceback we booked has a one day pass that we can use to buy a new AP, I believe. So not having to renew 2 APs this month is a good thing! :thumbsup2

Good luck with your decision, Elin! I forgot to say that I loved your TR. I can't wait to read about your December trip!

Any idea why they don't publish this info?

Deb - I hope you start feeling better so you can avoid the doctor.

Where are you brunching? I haven't found a place that I like for Sunday brunch yet.

Good luck with that. What do the girls want to do?

I need to renew my AP before Oct. 18. I won't use it until Nov. 30 so I'll lose a little over a month, but I think those days are worth giving up to get the $45 savings. I got 3 trips out of it so I can't complain.

Thanks, Beth! I am glad I had not already started my Pre TR! I would have to go back and change everything again... I have whittled my decision down to POFQ and CSR. (Wish me luck in further planning... )

Then it would be like an Elizabeth TR. :rotfl:

Both the girls and Bob were absolutely fine with the decision to switch to a moderate. They all love the moderates. I am the only one struggling with it.

I love the intimacy of POFQ but I think the rooms are probably getting a little shabby and in need of another update. We also like POR but with no guarantee of AB section we won't go there. For some odd reason the Mansions do nothing for us. ;)

CBR has the new pool and updated larger rooms, but Nemo and PoC don't hold any attraction to us. And the number of little ones and their families who would be attracted to those things is probably pretty high.

CSR just put queen beds in all the rooms and have updated the furnishings too. That is a plus for them, but it is a large resort.

I will make this decision before noon. I think...

Tammi - I agree that the $45 savings for the loss of one month is a good deal. I think I could probably get three trips out of an AP that I purchase next October. We would use it in October 2009 and then in December and then in late September/early October 2010. If I renew it now we would only get two uses out of it. At least my brain believes my numbers on this. ;)

Well, you'll just have to take one of us. Then you'll get the AB room! I've had two friends stay at CSR lately, and they loved it.
