I hear you...

choosing a president is not too difficult for us right now....wondering how bad things are going to get on the other hand I find really scary. we have friends and family that are in absolute economic disaster....as horrible as we feel for them...we pray it won't happen to us

And I agree with you there too, Kristine. What is going on did not just happen last month! It is a very difficult time to be making electoral decisions. :confused3

I need to get moving, but wanted to get some opinions. I received this email this morning from one of my cousins. This is all information about Obama that I don't remember hearing before. The email even lists exactly where all the info was obtained.
...
What do you guys think? I am completely up in the air over this election. I usually have a strong preferrence one way or the other, but this year I dislike both candidates :confused3 I feel like we are voting for the lesser of two evils.

To answer the question 'Why haven't we heard about this?', it's because we have ZERO media without a bias one way or another. ;)

I'd hate to discuss politics here, but I'd be glad to via PM or email. I too don't have a ton of love either candidate, but the prospects one presents scare the living daylights out of me. I am sickened to think about the America my children could theoretically grow up in not really based on these things presented above, but for other reasons -- and that some people would like to see the constitution, our rights/personal freedoms, and everything the country was founded on rewritten or disregarded altogether ... to be honest, I'm terrified about this election. It makes me sick, and I usually pay very little attention to politics.

Sorry to pop on just to reply to this... I'm in the middle of a TON of crap, as well as trying to figure out a potential cruise that would need booked next week, and fighting a GI bug. I'm reading along and have thoughts to reply to later, but wanted to offer Deb (or whomever) conversation with this post. I can't guarantee it would be timely conversation though! :rotfl:

I hope you all are doing well :grouphug:

my family is one of the ones in the eye of this financial storm and my husband still hasn't decided who he is voting for. I personally think we need to get rid of them all and start over.

Kristine-I am so glad to see you posting:hug:

thanks :goodvibes

popping on for a minute

Bill's first heart test came back normal...1 to go. I will be so relieved when that is over with.

Other than that...still in a funk....but this economic situation has dominated my thoughts more. We have lost a ton in the market....he finally moved it out. makes me ill!

I don't know how to look at DH's 401K online. I could figure it out, but I don't think I want to know. :scared:
We have the option of purchasing PepsiCo stock but we haven't ever acted on that. We get paperwork each year explaining it but I haven't paid that much attention. I need to educate myself on this stuff and make sure I understand what all is available and how we can take advantage of it. They sent a thing last year showing how much we need to set aside to make sure we have enough when DH retires, but I am sure that is probably all wrong now. :headache:

Kristine, you have every reason to be in a funk. We're here if you need anything. :flower3:

I don't usually get into political discussions but I agree that this year we are being bombarded with a lot of negativity. After having just put two kids through college I can practically guarantee that Obama had both academic and need-based scholarships for any schooling he received. McCain's education was paid for too! I also know that many of my friends and then subsequently their children were able to travel to Europe on a shoestring, so none of those comments hold any water with me.

I think that both candidates are intelligent, savvy men who have hired the best spin doctors out there. They can make anything from the past of the other party look horrible. They can also make the attacks on their own candidates look like it is a mortal wound that should not have been inflicted.

I am not looking at any more advertising and deleting all political emails and answering machine messages for the next month.
I am basing my vote on the general beliefs of the man who is running. I am not picking a party. I am not looking at what happened to him 35 years ago. The moral character of the man is what will finally decide my vote. And guess what? I have not yet decided who I am going to vote for...

This is wise, and what we've been doing around here, too!

An informed decision is one that you/we will have to work at and come to on our own... "information" from any public source is undoubtedly spun, for sure, even if just in simple wording choices!

ain't that the truth

For me, I am looking at my economic situation today compared to what it was 8 years ago...and since it is certainly NOT better (with no end in sight) today...I can not even remotely consider voting in the same party. (But that's just me)

We have to keep in mind too, though, that "the economy" has more factors than one man could ever determine, and takes a LONG time (more than entire one presidential term even!) to really show changes based on someone (or a group of someones') decisions :goodvibes:

Kristine, it's nice to see you popping in. I'm so glad Bill's test results are coming back, and have been negative thus far!

don't you just hate that....stop looking

I can't stop looking. I have to watch to see if the flight DS and I are on comes up with miles so I can move DH to the same flight. Moving from one flight to another on a miles ticket is free, so if we can switch him it is totally worth it. Besides that, if it drops more than $50 per ticket I am going to cancel and rebook so I will get a partial refund.

Our funds are down not, $5000...not $10,000....but $65,000. We had plans for that money....so talk about disgusted....for us this is a crisis of epic proportions....there is no way we could leave it to try to recoup...so now you just try & protect what's left....

Kristine - Yay for good results for Bill! :yay: How much longer will it be before you have the rest of the results?

DH got his biopsy results today. All normal! He is officially in remission! :dance3: He goes in next month to see the Dr. and talk about reducing or eliminating his medication.

Oh that's right. Well hopefully you get it all sorted out soon, so THEN you could stop looking! :teeth:

I could handle that! :)

:yay: That's great news, Elizabeth!

It was refreshing to say hi and chat a minute with some of you! I am hoping things settle down soon, so I can be back more.

Take care, DDA! :grouphug:

I was reading a thing that said how important it is to save for retirement vs. saving for college. It said you can get loans for college, but not for retirement. The way things are going I am not so sure there will be college loans! But it made me think of things from a different angle. We figured since college was coming first that it was more important, but maybe not. :confused3

That is a huge hit. I'm sorry. :sad2: I am not smart about investing (obviously) but I hope you guys are able to reconfigure and recover as much of your money as possible.

Kristine, and, actually, everyone who has money invested... I am so sorry for your financial situations. There is no way we can't all be affected. It will take years and years for us to all come out of this, and I can only hope that our friends and families here can escape relatively unscathed. I think that is silver-lining talk, but I hope it does not get any worse for any of us.
