Jennifer,
Your siggie picture is absolutely adorable!

Fly-by post to say...

Chanon, if you squint and look at our avatar, our pictures were taken around 5:30 p.m. on a pretty warm December day, and we were fine in our turtlenecks and sweater vests. :teeth: (Our pictures were all outdoors at the Poly.)

Happy Birthday Deb! :bday:

Happy Birthday Stephanie! :bday:

Sorry to post and run, but I have a 4-year-old who is boycotting her nap and a 2-month-old who is protesting the bouncy seat. At least the 2-year-old is cooperating...he's fast asleep! :goodvibes

Hope everyone is having a good day! :wave2:

At the middle one is cooperating....for now anyways!! My middle one is the least cooperative of the bunch! My 4 year old took a nap today only it was all of 20 minutes! :headache: Seriously, why do they refuse to nap!!

My volunteer did not come in this afternoon....I would ask that prayers and PD be headed her family's way. Phyllis came home this morning (after relieving somebody else of their overnight duties so they could be with their dying father) to find that her poor husband had been dealing with their granddaughter who lives with them part time. She had overdosed, whether it was accidental (she is bi polar) or intentional I don't know. All I know is they need all the support she can get.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

It's not fun, for any of us! Now you see why I'm so anxious to stop being a 'resdient's wife'! We've been doing this for about 7 years now. :scared1: :rotfl:

I can imagine it's the least fun for you, though. How many more years?

One thing I did for Katie was a lot of fun. She invited her friends to a Christmas cookie decorating party. I spent a couple of days making sugar cookies, gingerbread men, etc., for the girls to decorate. I bought tubs of premade frosting and sprinkles. On the day of the party, the girls all came to the house where I handed them a blank apron from the craft store. They sat around the table with fabric pens (not paint), and decorated their aprons.

Once they were done, they donned their aprons, and I brought platters of cookies and decorations to the table. I explained how many cookies each girl would get to decorate and take home, and they went to town. While they worked on the table, I made hot chocolate, cider and some popcorn.

When they finished the cookies, I gave them each a sugar ice cream cone, which they turned upside down on a plate and decorated like a Christmas tree. They used m&m's as ornaments, and licorice as tinsel, etc. They turned out really cute!

Once all the decorating was done, they lounged in front of the tv, with hot drinks and popcorn, while watching a Christmas movie.

It was a really fun afternoon/evening. They got to take a large plate of cookies home, plus their aprons, and their parents liked it, too.

That might be a fun idea for you, if you're up to making a bunch of cookies in advance.

I am :worship: :worship: to your awesome super mom powers. That is a fabulous idea. But I will cheat and buy cookies that have already been cut out!!! Sugar cookies are not my friend. I'm going to run it by Emma tonight.

Feel better Deb! Happy Birthday!!! :cake: party: :cake:

Steffy HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Deb - congrats on placing with the boys costumes! I'm glad to hear your camping weekend was a success, aside from the rain and car trouble! :( We have learned that you can't ever be over-prepared for "emergencies", however infrequent! Hooray fora good appointment for the boys. I hope you are on the mend by now! :wizard: {ETA: I'm sorry you aren't! :guilty: } I can sympathize with being "bad at doing nothing". It makes recovery tough, doesn't it?! I cracked up picturing your cat sleeping in your shoes! :confused3 :rotfl: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been a busy day here. Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. It was nice to finally get a chance to check in and see so many nice thoughts  I still have 7 pages to read, but I'm sure that I will find time later. As for now, we are heading to school for the open house/picnic then off to bowling league sign ups.

About 1.5!

ETA: They get significantly better each year though. His intern year, 9 out of 12 months he took overnight call (usually every 3rd or 4th day). Last year, 8 out of 12. This year, he only has 4.5 out of 12, and next year only 3-4! :yay:

Lots of good thoughts for them! :wizard:

My afternoon has been fairly disasterous.

Princess slept all of 30 minutes, then I heard her thrashing around. Then she started to whimper. Then it turned into full-blown howling. I went in and told her she needed to go to sleep. Howling continued. She finally told me her ear hurts. No fever but she NEVER says that, and she never acts like that, so I tend to believe her. Called Momboss, no answer in her office or on her cell. Called Dr's office, they are closed today, push this extension for the other Dr., straight to voice mail. ARGH! Give her Motrin and give up on everything else. She is supposed to go to ballet but with an earache and no nap we stayed home.

My mother is going to drive me to drink. Really.

I was one credit away from having enough for a free one way flight on Airtran & two of them were going to expire next month. So I purchased one credit for $39 & now I have a voucher for a one way flight for later use :yay:

That's cool!

I told DH about the free dining e-mail, but he couldn't see a way to make it work, either. Oh, well.

I posted this for my friends on the breast cancer thread. I am too lazy to type it out again, and it would say the same thing!

Mom made it through her first Taxol, but I am not quite sure what to make of her mindset.

I called her about 3:40 PM. She had just left the oncology clinic. Her CBC was OK, they told her the white cell count from 2 weeks ago was .6, so it really had nowhere to go but UP!:scared:
First they couldn't get her port to work, so they had to mess with that. She isn't sure what they used to try to clear the line. Then they gave her Benedryl and Zantac, and she got nauseous, her throat closed up and she couldn't breathe. :scared1: She said it only lasted a couple of seconds and nobody could figure out why it happened. That was BEFORE they started the Taxol. The onc thought it was an anxiety attack, but she says it wasn't.

She said they aren't giving her Neulasta anymore. Then she went off about how she just won't have any immunity at all, and she will have to re-think trying to work during her treatment. I told her she might need to re-think lots of things (meaning her half-baked idea of driving down here). Then she said she shouldn't have ever had the surgery to start with, she should have left the cancer alone because it wasn't hurting anything, treatment has been nothing but one complication after another.

My youngest sister FINALLY has a little job, but Mom doesn't want her to work. :headache: The reality of it is that their finances are DIRE. My sister needs to work, and if her grades slip a little then that's life in the big city. If she has to do 2 years of community college and then transfer then that's what she will do. She isn't in a position to waltz off to a 4 year college and not work - that's not the life she gets to have. Our father left her virtually NO life insurance money for college, so she needs to be prepared to juggle work and school. Yes, it is an unfortunate situation, but she can still be successful as long as she realizes it is NOT going to be easy and it is NOT going to be handed to her on a silver platter. And yes, other people WILL have it handed to them. That's how things go.

I know Mom is frustrated, but nobody said cancer treatment was going to be fun. She isn't getting any counseling, not going to any groups, just stewing in her own juices about how she never should have started treatment.

Sorry to vent all of this to you guys, but maybe you can tell me what to say or if her feelings are common. :confused3

Glynis, will you please write me a manual on all of the things I need to remember to do as my girls grow up?! :worship:

Hopefully, I won't need to! We'll still be here chatting as they grow, and you'll get tons of advice from us all!

Oh, stop! You're making me blush! Seriously, though, it was a fun time! I made sure I had a disposable table cloth so I could just ball it up and throw the mess away after the kids were done. It really helped everyone get in a Christmas-y mood, too! Good luck with Emma! If you need any more ideas, I'll start brainstorming! I'll see if I can find the pictures of the party and post them for you.

did you figure out your flight for december?

eta - this was supposed to quote janet...

Yes, when my flights changed for some reason it did not accept the voucher I had used. The lady on the phone fixed it & now shows $0 amount due :thumbsup2
