YAY! for Nicholas..

Double YAY for your parents going! And for their airline tickets being booked!!

I assume you guys decided not to drive?
They never were going to drive. I booked their air out of PIT. The flights I'm looking at out of DCA are within 1/2 of theirs, each way. So we will arrive and depart aroundabout the same time. Theirs was 370 r/t, ours 250. That was the cheapest I could find for them. Most were over $400. I have no idea why PIT is so expensive.

It has been raining non stop here since last night. I am thankful that we have no flooding. Our gas prices went from $3.65 a gallon to $3.99 last night. Today before I left work I was told to raise it to $4.29 :sad2:
Ours went up around 30 cents too. Talk about gouging. I understand that it will go up because of Ike and the refineries, but immediately? Give me a break.

PD needed here.

Yesterday Virginia started vomiting, this morning we have the other end. Prayers that it goes away very fast and the rest of us don't get it as we leave Sat.

I hope she feels better ASAP and no one else gets sick.

Good Morning DDA

Here is hoping those that went thru bad weather yesterday are doing better today.

Last night was such a big success. Hal was completely surprised. He had no idea at all. Over 50 people showed up.

We even talked about how there were little things leading up to last night and he still did not figure it out. He said he just did not even think about it at all. Even when one friend said he was sorry to have to miss last night. A neighbor said H-Bday and Hal didn't even wonder why is this neighbor saying that cause we all go our separate ways and just wave coming and going from home to work and back. He didn't notice Stephanie's car or even his father's car right outside the place :lmao:

We had started walking to the restaurant which is a block down from Guenna's home after having a drink and cheese and crackers and he noticed a favorite watering hole was looking busy and commented that they must be having a private party. Guenna says lets see but he didn't want to go in but she pushed him inside.

Sitting right inside the front door was his childhood friend that he has known since they were 9 years old. We hadn't seen him and his wife for over about 12 years or more. Howie got some really good pictures of the surprise on Hal's face. Then he started to look around the room and he is seeing everyone that means something to him in his life. Family, friends from all of the things that he loves to do, neighbors and even friends of our kids that have known him for so many years. Our son Steve even came up from Florida. He was completely flabbergasted. Four hours went by so fast.

Guenna's DH put together a cd of music that Hal really loves. Every other song was a Beatle one. He started it off with three Sousa Marches which were Hal's favorites, ending with Louie Armstrong's--It's A Wonderful World. You could see tears in his eyes because he was remembering a trip to Scotland with his brother Bob, Bob's son and daughter and how much fun they had. When he opened Bob's gifts, he started to cry when he saw a little plaque of the Pub here they had listened to It's A Wonderful World.

He was still on such a high from the evening and he said that if he had to rate where it stood on the top ten, it would be number two--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

number one being when he married me. By then we were both crying. But it was a very good cry. I could not have asked for a better evening if I had had someone write the script for it. :goodvibes

Terrific news! I'm glad y'all pulled it off.

Lindsay -- I'm glad that considering everything, they fared well. I can't imagine being without power for that long. I hope it's turned on quicker than they are estimating.

I guess we live far enough south east of DFW that we got significantly different weather from Lindsay and Elizabeth. I have limbs, some big, littering my yard as the trees were really swaying. I'd estimate we got around 5 inches, but I haven't heard the official total yet. We only lost the satellite, not power so we were very lucky!

It's a gorgeous day today -- sunny and fairly clear outside. I'd better run get ready for Church -- just needed to check on our gulf coast DISers and their families.

Lindsay - I'm glad your family is safe and that damage was relatively minor. Thanks for checking in.

It's been a week with lots and lots of discussions!! I'm tired, this mothering stuff is exhausting!:goodvibes
I think your response was perfect Robyn. I don't blame you for never bringing it up. Some things don't need to be discussed until the child is curious enough to ask. When I got to the part about adoption I was waiting for the 'and where do babies come from' part to be added. :rotfl: Maybe she'll save that one for next week! ;)

Oh no. I hope it's just a 24 hour thing and that it stays away from everyone else. Quarantine her! :wizard:

I'm so glad it went well and you all had a terrific time

So what is everyone up to today?
All i NEED to do is run to the store and make copies of some pictures for work..other than that, nothing needs to be done!! :)
Well, I hate to admit it, but I slept until 10 AM. Boy, that felt good. I was exhausted. The rest of the day will be church, laundry, grocery store. Anything that requires me to stay in the air conditioning. Maybe a little cleaning since my parents are coming here Thursday. And of course, the Steelers/Browns game tonight. Are you ready Jennifer?

What a wonderful, beautiful, memoriable party. I was so happy for Hal. And you. I couldn't believe I got an email from Hal at 1:00 in the morning! He was just stunned. So happy. You pulled it off!!!:dance3: :dance3:

Terry - you get the DDA wonderful wife award! It sounds like you both had a wonderful, wonderful night.

Happy birthday, Hal!

Kristine - I'm thinking about you and hoping that everything is okay.

You have it, Jennifer. I cannot believe that you all leave on Saturday!! It seems like you have been hoping for and planning this trip a very long time.

Lindsay, I am so glad to see your families are all okay.:goodvibes

I'm really worried about Karen and Kristine. My nephew in Chicago took on water last night. :sad2:

Glad to see Elizabeth and Marci are okay. I hate loking at The Weather Channel. The pictures of Houston are scary.

How perfect! I am glad that you all had a great evening, Terry. And someone did write the script... YOU! :goodvibes

Oh, Kristine - I hope the damage isn't too bad! I chuckled at your Valium comment, but in all seriousness, I hope things can quickly return to normal -- especially before your trip! :wizard:

Robyn, just keep an eye out for articles, etc. Last year around here, there were a handful of apples to be picked in late September, then nothing. Our summer has looked about the same this year, so I'm thinking it might not happen. If you've had "normal" weather though, you should have apples (of some variety) the whole season!

Even though this was a year in the making, the actual craziness started four weeks ago when Guenna send the E-vite. We kept thinking of more people to invite, so we were making a lot of phone calls. :rotfl:

He said he wanted to write them to the addresses he had while he was still able to write. He had to taste the nicest bottle of Scotch he got from his brother Bob. :lmao:
