DDA Chapter 12

I'm trying to decide how many photos to buy of Matthew's senior pictures. I like the photographer, but none of them turned out spectacular. The prices are probably reasonable, but it's still a lot of money. My in-laws want two 4x5's, and my parents want a 5x7 and two wallets. I'll probably send a 5x7 and a couple of wallets to my brother. I need to ask Matthew how many wallets he thinks he wants. I can't think of anyone else who needs photos.

Hi! I hope everyone is having a good Monday. :wave2:

Beth, your pictures are amazing! I'm really enjoying your trip report! :)

Yours too, Becky!

Heidi, I think icing sugar is probably just good ole' powdered sugar. I use dried fondant on my cut-out cookies, but that's pretty much just powdered sugar, too.

Tom, I hope your daughter and your home remain lice-free from here on out!

Karen, thanks for checking in!

I did treat myself to a low-fat vanilla malt on Saturday, and I might inhale a few more of those this week, because Kevin will be in Columbus at a seminar. He leaves tomorrow morning and he won't be back until Friday afternoon. Originally, my mom was going to come down and help me Wednesday through Friday, but since she just got her power back on Saturday, she's got a lot to do at home.

Over the past couple months, Noah has tried really hard to soothe himself by sucking his fist. These last two days, he's figured out his thumb is much more satisfying. I never thought I wanted another thumbsucker, but if this leads to me finally getting some sleep without holding a baby all night, I'll take it!

Take care, everyone! :grouphug:

Beth - I am pretty sure my mom still has envelopes full of my Senior pics. They took SOOO many poses it was hard to choose!
I don't think we have A&W. If we do they are few and far between, and mostly combined with another thing, like Long John Silver's or something.

I was just telling DH about all the band stuff. DS has also mentioned that they are supposed to do something at the high school for Homecoming but he has NO details. Surprise, surprise. I guess I need to e-mail the band director (I know he LOVES to see my name in his in-box ;) ) and tell him I need COMPLETE DETAILS for these stupid events.

I'm sorry that you'll be alone this week. I definitely think that you deserve some malts/shakes/sundaes/Golden Oreos, etc.

As to the thumbsucking thing, I hear ya! At first I was really happy that Leslie found a finger to suck. It really comforted her, and helped her sleep well. The doctor said it was perfectly normal for her to start sucking. She was getting jealous of all the attention Mary was getting, and the sucking helped her out. Mary sucked her thumb from the beginning, and was the first of the twins to stop. Leslie still sucks her finger, and we're trying to get her to stop, but nothing seems to help. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them. We've tried the gross tasting paint, hot sauce, bribery, etc. Anything else?

Forgive me if you all have discussed this already, but I just stumbled upon a neat crockpot blog. Her 2008 new year's resolution is to use her crockpot every day. She even used Glynis' pot roast recipe. :)

Yes, I want to avoid having envelopes of senior pictures when my kids are married and out of the house. We have too much clutter already! Fortunately, the photographer took fewer poses than I was planning on, so it's a little easier to narrow it down.

We have only combined A&Ws here, one with Long John Silver's and the other with KFC. They are ok for fast food, but expensive. Just don't visit the one in the truck stop in Wyoming!

I'm sorry that the band director is being so vague. I can't stand when I don't get full information, because I have too many other things to do than try to drag information out of someone.

Thanks, Amy!

I hope the time that Kevin is gone goes quickly and without much stress. :goodvibes

I'm really enjoying that blog! She's pretty inventive, and some of her recipes are really yummy!

I didn't know she'd done the pot roast. How cool!

Thanks Glynis
I'm not sure, but could it be confectioner's sugar? I know that that is used in icing a lot. Maybe Amy knows. Sorry I can't be more help.
The recipe is called:
Christmas Melt-away Mints

1 package of cream cheese
4 cups (or more) icing sugar
1 tsp. peppermint extract

In a mixer mix the cream cheese until soft and smooth.
Add the icing sugar a little at a time until it becomes firm
enough to handle.
Sprinkle icing sugar on surface and knead in the peppermint extract.
Divide into four and roll into ropes. Cut into pieces and let dry in the fridge overnight.

And which one of us were you thinking would fit into this?
It's much too big for Princess. Besides, she wants to be Ariel. :rolleyes1 I am not sure we can find a costume small enough for her. I think we may have to go on a road trip to the Disney Store. Maybe I will call first.
I just thought they were cute...It was one of the items that appeared in my Sams Club email update. I remember having the Wonder Woman underwear set and loving it. This would be much better for little ones to play in - they come with a cape!

This is where I got the white bean and apple chili recipe! I'll be using one of her chicken recipes later this week.

Definitely powdered sugar! I've made these before and they are wonderful. You can tint them with food coloring for any holiday, too!

White bean and apple chili! That sounds good. Do you have the recipe handy or should I look for it on the blog?

ETA: With an alphabetical listing of recipes, this was a cinch to find. I think I'll try it one of these days.

Glynis - have you tried setting limits for when/where you allow thumb sucking? Such as ONLY at bedtime, ONLY in the bedroom, etc? Maybe a rewards chart for when she follows those guidelines? DS was a pacifier guy, and so was my first charge and Princess. The others have been non-suckers - I have never had one that sucked his/her thumb or fingers. My friend had charges ho were 5-7 yrs. and they would ask her for permission to suck their thumbs when they were really tired. Otherwise the thumbs stayed out.

Amy - I hope all goes well while you are flying solo this week! :wizard:

Chanon - Hmm. I don't get Sam's e-mails. Maybe I should sign up!

DS has a Batman costume that is WAY too small. We need to get rid of it, if anyone is looking for a Batman suit. I think it is size 5-7 or 6-8, maybe? It is a full body suit (with built in muscles), belt, hood, and cape.

Beth - The band director just seems to forget that we don't know everything that he knows. I even Googled to try to figure out this thing on Wednesday and I still have NO idea where it is being held. :confused3
I am enjoying your trip report, even though I am so not a road trip kind of girl.

Friday can not come soon enough!! :headache:

I swear I am not sure how I've stuck around for so flip flopping long here (other than the need for money)

Well I got my cousin to stop, but that was a long time ago, she is 30 now. Every time she was around me (which was almost all the time) she was not allowed to have her thumb in her mouth and I rarely caught it there. I also told her that she couldn't be sucking her thumb in school as the other kids may not understand and might make fun of her.

Now for the irony. The last time I was holding her son, I was trying to teach him to suck his thumb. :rotfl:

Leslie still sucks her finger, and we're trying to get her to stop, but nothing seems to help. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them. We've tried the gross tasting paint, hot sauce, bribery, etc. Anything else?
