DDA Chapter 12

Hi, DDA,

I'm sorry to jump in and jump out so much, but I'd like to ask for some prayers and PD from the DDA. Please, please be praying for the greater Houston area with Hurricane Ike imminent. Fortunately, my parents and brother evacuated and made it to our house late last night, but Jonathan's parents (who are in an area like my parents that was under a mandatory evacuation) are going to ride out the storm at home. Jonathan's brothers, their wives, and children are also going to ride out the storm, although they're further inland and won't bear the brunt of the storm surge. The area Jonathan and I are from, though, and where our parents still reside, is only 20 miles from Galveston, and very close to the Bay that will fuel all the storm surges.

If I could ask for prayers and PD to fly my families and friends' direction, I would be most appreciative. I will check in this weekend, and let you know how they fared. It's going to be a long night....

On another note, Jonathan and I are well, had a great cruise (go figure, with hurricanes all around us), and had a wonderful time at the first MNSSHP last Friday. I'm back to getting my hiney kicked at work, and probably won't see another light at the end of the tunnel until early October. I miss everyone, and will look forward to the day I can get on here daily once again.

Thank you, so very much, in advance for any prayers and support. I hope everyone else is staying healthy and dry!

Lindsay

We'll definitely keep them (and all the others in the area) in our prayers. pixiedust: :wizard: pixiedust: :wizard: pixiedust: :wizard: pixiedust: :wizard:

So we have a milestone of sorts here tonight. Matthew has taken the car for the first time by himself. Well, Laura is with him...but no "adult" driver. The cross country team has pasta dinner nights, and he drove them over tonight. It is about 20 minutes from here at his girlfriend's house (so he knows the route pretty well). Laura texted me that they arrived safely. I asked her to text me when they leave so I know when to start worrying and praying. Overall, I'm not too nervous...

Thinking of you Lindsay :hug:...it sounds so scary.

Bill has been glued to the weather channel

I know it sounds strange but this really is a good thing for me. It means things will finally get fixed and hopefully things will get back to normal for the staff and managers (if there is such a thing in my job).

I put my thinking cap on and changed their names to Jake and Bob Snow...more normal sounding names at least to me. Almost went with Vail and Aspen, as I've taught kids with those names...but nobody would believe me. :rotfl2:

My suggestion was going to be to use their tourism website somehow. I know they said "in your own words" but getting in some reference on how easy it was to find info on their website might be a plus.. :confused3 Does that make sense?

Lindsay :wizard: & prayers for your family & friends

Vicki I hope work calms down for you soon :wizard:

Beth :woohoo: for Miles driving on his own! I'm sure I won't feel this way when Garrett starts to drive though :rotfl:

Theresa I like the new names :thumbsup2

Kristine we have been getting heavy rain all day, looks to be this way through the weekend. How is it up your way?

Jennifer :cool1: being in single digits!

Elin I wish I could go with you!

Chanon :yay: for travel documents & more boxes

That's good to hear! I hope that you make it to that point without too much stress.

Vicki, I hope this happens quickly!

Theresa, I do like the "Snow" brothers better than the "Boarding" brothers, personally :goodvibes

I thought about that...but couldn't find a way to incorporate it without sounding like I was sucking up.

That's good to hear! I hope that you make it to that point without too much stress.

Actually, the stress should be over. What is left is a lot of work (and overtime!!!!!) in pulling together statistics. That is one of the reasons that I'm staying down here. I don't want to waste the time in the car now since I could be a help down here next week. 16 hours round trip is just too much time and no work. If I stay, then I can get the stuff done and finally really relax for the first time in several months.

Beth :woohoo: for Miles driving on his own! I'm sure I won't feel this way when Garrett starts to drive though :rotfl:

I used to tease my one friend when her kids were first driving by themselves. She used to be so worried and nervous and made them call the minute they reached their destinations and again before they left for home. Yeah, well, now I understand! I am glad for the independence, but that doesn't mean it's always easy. Someone once told me that having children is like having part of your heart walking around outside your body.
