DDA Chapter 10

Last night Kristin and I took her best friend and her mother to a wine and cheese pairing at Ingleside Winery over on the Northern Neck of Virginia (about 40 miles east of here).

Wow! We were duly impressed. They had three tasting stations set up in the gift shop and cask area. There were tables set up in the two rooms with baskets, platters and serving bowls of breads, crackers, olives, apples and pears, and various nuts. Each station had two wines and an individual plate of cheeses that had been selected to pair with that wine. There was a winery employee at each station with a good knowledge of the wines that they were willing to share if you wished.

The pours of wine were not large, but there was no limit to the number of pours you could receive. I guess that I had about a glass and a half of wine throughout the evening. Since we were there about 3 hours I felt that I was still able to drive. Their wines are remarkably good! I would be happy to order them anywhere and to serve them in my house. The glass was included in the $20 pp cost.

The cheese selections were, for the most part, well thought out, albeit a little on the careful side. There were tasting notes about each of the wines on a sheet given out as you entered, but there were more pictures of the cheeses and additional notes posted around the rooms. No one could complain about the amount of cheese served! Each plate had three cheeses on it and each sample had more than a 1/2 oz. portion of each of the cheeses. So that a total of about 4-5 oz. of cheese. I thought it was a good value! My favorite cheese pairings are marked with italics. Please note that I am a great lover of blue cheeses! ;)

Station 1
PINOT GRIGIO 2007 paired with Tour de Marze Brie, Jarlsberg and Monterey Jack.
CHARDONNAY 2005 paired with Camembert, Jarlsberg and Medium Cheddar

Station 2
ROSATO DE SANGIOVESE 2007 paired with Manchego, Black Diamond White Cheddar and Tour de Marze Brie
MERLOT 2005 paired with Manchego, Gruyere and Jarlsberg

Station 3
PETIT VERDOT 2004 paired with Gruyere, Black Diamond White Cheddar and Tour de Marze Brie
OCTOBER HARVEST (Icewine) paired with Gorgonzola Dolce, Point Reyes Blue and Roaring Forties Blue

Elin, That sounds like so much fun. I too love cheese and wine. I will have to check with our local wineries to see if they do that kind of thing.

Basketball is on right now------USA against China gonna be a good game I promise I will not post the outcome.

I hope the weather in Fl is as mild as it has been here. I don't think we've ever seen this kind of weather in August. We are going up 301, leaving from Bob's house. I can't drop the doggies off until 2 so we'll head out shortly after that. I'm so  :cool1: :yay: :dance3: :woohoo: !

I just realized I can get my boarding passes in 20 minutes!

Is Airtran one of the airlines that participates with WDW?

Tammi have a great trip

Hi everyone....

Checking in...

Great pictures Chanon!!

Elin...not sure if I possess enough powers to convince Bill into a $900 dinner...although it is quite tempting

Robyn...I hope Mo feels better soon...poor thing.

Jen..I hope you are recovering well...

Becky..thanks for the info on the FE...I may need to ask you a few more questions as I am becoming more & more confused.

Hope everyone is doing well!!!!

Lot's of running around this weekend for us...we have had several parties...and I am exhausted.

Unfortunately, unbeknown to me, Jackie took her expensive digital camera to a Chicago beach...and it proceeded to get stolen! I initially was quite angry...but now I just feel bad for her...she had never downloaded her vacation pics...or the pics from 2 concerts she has gone to. None of the kids are very street smart....we have had issues trying to explain to them that the HAVE to lock up their bikes etc....it's sad to have to explain the big bad world to them.

Kristine - That is so sad for Jackie! :( What a way to learn a lesson.

I just cannot understand why you didn't jump at the chance to persuade Bill to book that thing. ;) :rotfl2:

So... Delta changed our flights again! Bob and I decided that we would not be happy arriving at WDW at 2:00 when initially we were to arrive at 9:00. I got my ducks in a row and called this morning. I was very fortunate to get a CS rep who was in a decent mood and I was asking for very little as far as changes were concerned. So now (barring any changes in the next 45 days) We are flying out on Friday evening instead of Saturday morning. Now we have a full day at WDW on Saturday!! :woohoo:

Working on the room for Friday night, as we speak!

Does anyone know how to download a movie (DVD) onto an Ipod?
I am trying to get POC1 into her Ipod & I have no idea what I am doing. I was able to download a Audio CD into it but can't seem to work the movie one. Thanks

The kid they just showed on the pummel horse is from Highlands Ranch (next town over) and was an alternate. He rocked the pummel!!!:goodvibes

He was awesome!!! I love to watch men's gymnastics! So cool!!!

Good morning. :)

That's for all the magical wishes, everyone!

ONE MORE DAY!!!!!!!!!

Since I'm going to be in and out all day, I'll wish you bon voyage, right now! I can't wait to hear all about your trip! We all know that the kids are going to have a most wonderful time with you and Bob! Be safe, take pictures, and make some magical memories!!!

Hello all! Just a quick hello and some :wizard: that all recovering DDAers and kidlets are having better days today.

I got some small shopping for our trip done this morning when I had an hour to myself. I'm waiting for Terra and Phil to finish a game so that Terra and I can run one more trip-related errand. I've also got to talk to Kristi about using her printer to print a bunch of activity sheets and other trip things. Her cool new printer would do it in no time!

Oh oh oh and I picked up a couple of cancellations this week so we now have 'Ohana right before MNSSHP and Tusker House breakfast with Phil. I'm still crossing my fingers for a LeCellier or Chef Mickey's and checking every few days.

Goodbye everyone!

We are leaving for Baltimore, and I won't have internet access for the week. Talk to you all Friday night!

Have a great week.

Tia we have Chef Mickey for lunch on the 21st. Congrats on getting some more dinning.

Tammi- I hope you have a fantastic trip.

I gotta find my mask. I have my snorkel, booties and flippers but the masks are MIA. :confused3 :confused3 Not sure where the disappeared to, but I need to find them.

I got lots to do between now and Thursday when I leave. I have little motivation to do any of it. I just want to go on the trip.

oh mask, masky where are you? Becky needs to pack you!!!:lmao:

So my poor Abi is sick. We had gone to the water park yesterday (bless season passes) and about 3 she started saying she didn't feel well. She was asleep by 8 and up puking by 3 AM. She hasn't eaten but a few crackers since last night. I don't think I've seen her this sick in a long time...she doesn't even want an ice cream man bomb pop.

The rest of us cleaned for the afternoon. Our living quarters look a little less like a pig sty now:thumbsup2
