Oh God, this is one of the happiest days of my life. She passed!!!!

She was almost sick with nerves last night, and I knew she would dread it all day at school, so we skipped first period and went to the DMV instead. We had a brief crisis when I realized I had misplaced her Social Security card, but I finally thought to look in one last place and there it was!!

She passed vision easily, but got hung up on signs. The examiner, bless her loving heart, and I mean that sincerely, said, "What would you think that sign was if it had a big black cross on it?" DD remembered railroad crossing then, thankfully. On the last one, she completely blanked but managed to come up with "It's No Something, I think." This woman, who will wear a crown in heaven, said, "Yep, no passing, that's good enough!!" Again, God Bless Her and all her extended family.:cloud9:

DD squeaked by with the written test, but as I told her, "The guy who finishes last in his class at med school still gets called Doctor!!" She was wavering on the last question - she had missed as many as she could and HAD to get it right. Would I be this giddy if she had missed it?:rotfl:

So now I am driving with a new teen driver!! She drove me to school and she did a beautiful job. Now for a year of practice and then I have a licensed driver!!!

Can you tell I am THRILLED this is behind me??:rotfl:

Congrats to your dd!:yay: My dd is almost 18 now and having her drive at night on the highways is what she is doing now.

She is fine, but mom isn't.

But she will be going to college soon and mom has to chin up.;)

Yes, I was thinking about this today - my DD20 zips back and forth on major interstates all the time (her college is about 3 hours away) and other than the normal "I wish she would get home already" stuff I don't worry about her driving anymore. But I was driving that road this weekend and thinking, "There is no way DD15 will ever be able to do this!!""

I guess it is just a gradual sense of feeling better about it!!

Congrats to her, my DS turned 15 in October and I haven't been brave enough to take him to get his.

I have twins and they got theirs at the same time.......Congrats!

P.S. Keep $500 on hand at all times for the little fender benders coming up.:goodvibes

Congrats to her!

My DS just turned 16 and got his license last month. He dove everywhere in every kind of weather for a whole year before and I feel pretty good about turning him loose now! He has to drive on the highway to get to school.

We moved back here from Texas so she has not experienced snow and ice yet.
Dad will be taking her out and teaching her that.:rolleyes1

Mystery, We took DS to a parking lot after both a snow and ice storm. Make sure she has a lot of room and then let her feel what it is like. I admit I still had a hard time sending him off this morning (and the roads weren't bad). Last year at least twice it started snowing in the middle of the day and then they have to get home. I hate winter! Snow is not too bad but oh boy the ice!

Wow, seems so young! I think you have to be 16 1/2 here, and 17 for your license!

It's just a permit, in NC they have to have their permit for a year before they can get their actual license. Then it's another 6 months before they can drive after 9PM and other restrictions that I can't remember anymore since I moved away from NC.

Oh and congrats to the OP'd DD!! In Texas the parents can teach the kids to drive so my DH is going to teach DD15. I couldn't do it, but he has the patience...

Yes, I love the NC laws. She's had 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of varied on the road training with an instructor - she was on the highway by the second day!!:scared1: For the learner's permit, she had to show two different forms filled out by the parent and the instructor, a transcript from her school showing that she was enrolled and not on academic probation, a Social Security card, and her birth certificate. She had to pass vision, sign and written tests today.

She can drive with me or another licensed driver of at least 5 years for the next year - from 5am until 9 opm only for the first 6 months, then anytime.

After a year she'll take the road test and get a full provisional license. She will be able to drive by herself until 9pm. After 6 months the 9pm restriction comes off and she can drive anytime.

She graduates from a provisional license to a full license when she is 18, I believe.

We moved from NC to ND a month after my oldest got her NC license. We took her to the DMV in North Dakota and they just took her provisional license and gave her a regular North Dakota driver's license. Honestly I was glad to be done with the no driving after 9 pm because she's an active kid and I got tired of being a taxi! ;)

In NJ, you have to be 16 to get the basic permit, 17 for the provisional license, 18 for a regular license.

Yes, I agree!! If the happiest day is the day you get your driver's license, and the second happiest day is when you get your permit, the third happiest day is surely the day you "get your nine o'clcok off", as it's called around here.

That first night they have a sports or school practice that lasts until after nine and you don't have to go pick them up is one of the best moments in parenting....:rotfl:

As a parent of a new driver, all I have to say is.........

Glad I don't live in NJ then!! My DD is very active in after school activities and it was so nice not to have to drive her back and forth all the time. Especially when they would get back from cheering for a football/basketball game at 11:00 on a cold night!!!

I loved the fact that I no longer had to leave my warm house to pick them up at a dance or a football game. Plus she would take her sister places and I didn't have to go when they decided there was something they NEEDED at Walmart!!

My son turned 16 and got his license last week - right after marching band was done for the season. Bummer. Our problem is that they get back so late from some competitions that I'll still be sitting in that parking lot because for the first year you can't drive after 1 am.

In MN it is after midnight except for coming home from school events or work so that is nice. Our DS16 got his license in Aug and it has been really nice especially when I can say "can you run to the grocery store for some milk" :thumbsup2 . DD13 figured out that in a year and a half she and DS13 will get their permits :scared1: --actually it is REALLY nice having another driver around!
