Ok, I know I'll be slammed, etc, but DD (almost 13) had her heart set on Contemporary Tower for our upcoming trip. But with these great codes I got 40% off at Poly Gardenview, and I couldn't pass it up. I'm paying $198.69/night including taxes . . .or I could pay $254.14/night including taxes for Contemporary Tower.

Would you switch?? Poly is beautiful IMHO, but it sure would be neat to see the MK from the Contemporary Tower . . .

Hmmmmm I suppose I'll wait to see what DH says. I suppose I should include him in this decision. I know how much he loves to have the MK view. ;)

Well, I think you made a good choice. I know how close the rates are (rack rate), and if I got that much of a rate difference, I would have went with Poly as well. Look at it this way, you could end up with a newly renovated room!

Did you ask for the rate of a Poly LV room?

Just my opinion, but....I'd stay put at the Poly. We stayed there for the first time in January. It is a beautiful resort, and very convenient.

That being said, we have never stayed at CR, but had reservations there, went to the room, then turned around and called the Poly to see if they had rooms available immediately. I wasn't impressed at all with pics we had seen of CR, but decided to book because the price was great, but in person, I just couldn't stand the room. I thought the rooms were hideous, and couldn't stay there. I know many are fans of CR, but it wasn't for us.

Oh, we had gv rooms at the Poly in Tokelau. We were on the third floor towards the lagoon end and could see the quiet pool from our balcony, as well as the GF and the castle. We also watched the water parade from there each night. It was great!

Good luck with your decision!

Cali - It wasn't a matter of seeing the MK view for my DD it was that Arcade I was telling her all about . . .See what happens when parents discuss things outloud?? :D

I am waiting to hear from DH so I can get an idea of what he thinks.

I believe the Poly LG was $229/night not including tax? so it would equal out to $254 same as Contemporary.

If she wants to stay at CR just for the arcade, then I'd keep the Poly ressie. Would you pay $55 per day to visit an arcade? Besides, the CR is only a quick monorail trip from the Poly so she can still visit the arcade and you can save the money!

The Polynesian has an arcade, too. And, I wouldn't base staying at the Contemporary just for the arcade. It is a nice resort, but it isn't for everyone (some would say the colors are too loud, and the place looks too dull). The Polynesian isn't for everyone, either (some would call the place dated - but the management is in attempt to fix that thought).

Wish, I just found out something! I can stay at the Grand Floridian, Garden view for $199/night + tax! Lagoon for $239/night + tax! I really need slapped across the face! Should I do it? (no, I shouldn't! Please don't tell me to!)

Wonder what the chance would be of getting these good of rates at this time next year? Probably not-so-good, huh?

Don't forget the Contemporary Tower has two sides! So you may not get an MK view if the Tower is more than half full.

I was faced with a similar dilemma last year and ended up staying at the Polynesian. The rate was just too good to pass up, except for....
Garden View Concierge was only $50 more, so we ended up doing that! No regrets at all.

Just my 2 cents. I checked out the Polynesian arcade (it had been a while since I had been in it) and it looked like it had a bunch of new stuff and some great games. It takes up two rooms. I took pictures and I will post them on the web pages soon. I think the pool is much better also.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks all . . .

I spoke with DH and he much rather stay at the Poly even if it is GV . . .DD is NOW ok with the idea since I told her if we are located in Tahiti the arcade is very close to our location. . .(Just trying to keep everyone happy!)

The mom's job is the hardest! Always trying to keep everyone happy!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I feel much better about my choice . . .

Cali, I know what you mean. I saw the $199 GF rate and just about flipped out! Started to frantically plan with my sister how we could swing a trip in December (even though we're going in September and have a cruise planned next spring). But I eventually came to my senses and decided it was just too much to try to do it. (Although I still want to!).

I think you're making an excellent choice in going with the Polynesian... and I did want to add that the Castle & Space Mountain can be seen from the Poly beaches and pool. A little more distant than from the CR, but magical nonetheless. And obviously, the fireworks can be seen as well... and you get the bonus of the Electrical Parade.

My $00.02

No, I wouldn't switch!!! Not for more than $50 per night, unless DD was going to make up the difference! I think that she will end up liking the Poly, and needs to give it a chance. When I was growing up, I always had my heart set on the Contemporary Tower, and we always stayed offsite. I was just glad to have the opportunity to be able to GO to WDW! And she is still staying onsite, in a deluxe monorail resort. I would say she is a very lucky lady! JMHO!

It must be a DD thing. My DD (almost 14) remembers the Contemporary arcade from years and years ago and already has her "plan" mapped out. She figures she'll have no problem hopping on the monorail to go to that wonderful place. That and Disney Quest, which the rest of us have no interest in.

When I was 13 I didn't have any input as to where we vacationed. I just went.

You are doing the right thing. Kids need to learn the value of the dollar. I assume she is not paying for the room.

We are taking my niece and nephew in Nov. They will stay at the AS and like it!

Quite frankly, I'd be grateful my parents were taking me to Disney World, and not only staying on property, but staying at a deluxe resort!!!!!!
