Youngest DD (10) tried out last week to be a drummer in the school band. Everyone wants to play the drums so you have to audition. She tied for fourth place. There are only four spots, so I figured the teacher would just let 5 kids play right? NOPE, It was a THREE WAY TIE!!!

She tied with two other little boys for the fourth spot! So as of last week, they were going to have to audition again for the last spot today. (NO PRESSURE!)
Today she comes home and says the teacher said she's just going to pull a name out of a hat! I don't know what to think of this!
I know DD wants to play the drums because her big sis plays the drums. She also REALLY wants to beat those boys! :cool1:

She was really excited when she found out she had already beaten most of the boys in her class to tie for fourth place!!! :cool1: The boys weren't so happy about that though. :guilty:

I can't wait to see what happens!!! popcorn:: I wonder why the teacher changed her mind? What would you think of this?
I hope she gets it! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

:cool1: :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2: SHE MADE IT!!!!! :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1:
Two of the boys decided to play trumpet instead so teacher didn't need to pull a name out of a hat after all!
DD doesn't care how she got her spot, she got one!!!!!
She figures she still beat out at least 20 boys for that spot! :woohoo:
Thanks for all the pixie dust and well wishes!!

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Take those boys OUT!

But seriously, best of luck to her. :sunny:

drawing from a hat makes a lot of sense. Maybe she was afraid of the backlash she would get from the parents whose kid didn't make it.

Good luck to your dd. :cheer2:

Thanks guys!

Grinningghost, DD says thanks!!!! :goodvibes

Maybe she was afraid of the backlash she would get from the parents whose kid didn't make it.

and I might think that if I didn't know her so well. She's not the type of teacher who cares at ALL what parents think. She's not concerned about the 23 kids who were cut already! :rotfl:

I'm not on here venting at all! I'm just curious as to what would make her change her mind like this. She's usually a competition driven teacher. She makes them compete for everything. They have to earn their chairs, etc.

I can't wait till tomorrow!!!!

Thanks again for the support!!!!! GIRL POWER :cheer2: :cheer2:
btw, the other three spots were filled with boys. DD will be the only girl drummer in the fifth grade band if she were to get the spot. princess:

Good Luck for your daughter! My son is a drummer and in order to be in percussion you had to have at least 2 years piano lessons prior. He made sure and started piano at 5 so he would be sure and make it. He is in high school now and auditioned and made snare in the drumline. Now he wants to audition for a DCI drum corps. I love to see the girls on the drums too! Its the coolest instrument in band (I may be partial) :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Good luck to your DD :wizard: Girls rule, boys drool :rotfl:

Actually, I kinda feel sorry for the band director. I wouldn't want to have to make those cuts. :guilty:

Good Luck to your Daughter!!! Let us know what happens!! :wizard: :wizard: :cheer2: pixiedust:

My DD11 is the only girl drummer in Sixth grade. She started in 4th, so this is her 3rd year. She loves it, and I love to listen to her play. Best wishes to your DD.

Congrats to your daughter, from another female drummer!! I played from 6th grade through college.

Good luck today to your DD. Here's a little extra pixie dust.
