Epcot, World Showcase
Were at Epcot today. We had a fabulous breakfast at the Poly, where they have the best decaf coffee in the universe. I probably should mention that neither of us rented a car, and traveling to and from everywhere required deep thought. Going from the DXL to the Polynesian to Epcot is no small feat. Luckily were leisurely park tourers and for DD and I, getting there is part of the fun. Id have been lost without Robins expertise in these matters, her of the nearly 70 trips, but when I tell her that Id like to have a piece of cheesecake in Epcot she has no idea what Im talking about. Never mind, I say, Ill show you. After Future World and saying hello to the Pin Central people, I found it. The cheesecake place. I forget the name. I probably never knew the name. We walk through the doors and are greeted by shelves of desserts of all kinds. (Behind glass, of course.) I get a very chocolate-ish drink and a piece of cheesecake. DD gets chocolate cake. Robin chooses tiramisu, sits down with us and pronounces us wonderful vacation companions.
On to World Showcase. DD gets a passport and does the KidStop activities. Shes quite happy while her Mom and friend admire the scenery (the Flower & Garden Festival was going on) and chase after good pins. The weather is bizarre here, or maybe is part of the themeing. We had brought ponchos in case of rain. We put them on at the beginning but its sunny in Mexico. We put them on again in China and off again in Italy. A short downpour in the American Adventure, followed by partly cloudy in Morocco and severe thundershowers in the United Kingdom. Luckily we have a PS at the Rose & Crown and miss the heaviest rain. (Three thumbs up for the Rose & Crown.) It is still pouring through Canada and back through Future World, and we stay at Pin Central again for a while, chatting. DD watches the dancing fountains, trades a few pins, and admires the crowds of yellow plastic-covered people bobbing along in the rain.
Back at the Dixie, we are thoroughly soaked, tired, and full. DD felt fine all day though. The amount of food we all had today is sinful. Its not very late, but DD and I crawl under the covers and stay there. She is asleep by 8. I watch the only episode of Survivor Ill ever see, and it was the finale. I call home and sort out an argument between my husband and his mother. (Mother-in-law was at my house taking care of little DD and the pets, thank goodness, but DH and his mother cant get along.) Robin and I arrange and admire our new pins. Not a very exciting evening, maybe, but Im completely relaxed and happy. Tomorrow is a really busy day and its great to be off my feet for a while.

Magic Kingdom
Its early; theres already a crowd gathered at the entrance to Tomorrowland. They allow people into the park at about 8:00 but the ropes dont drop until 9. As they open, it seems like everyone marches over to Buzz Lightyear, and we do too. Theres a wait, but the second time we could have walked right on again, and again. The early-morning crowd has moved on.
We ride the cant-miss rides Pooh, Teacups, Peter Pan, and Small World within an hour, using fastpass only once. This is a great accomplishment. But it brings me closer to the dreaded first-time-on-Splash Mountain and Im hoping its over quick, and that I live through it. We get to wait for that about 20 minutes. Then they want me to get into this very wet log car, behind two teen boys, and hurtle straight downward to my death. Which I do, because I promised. I survive though. DD has her hands up like the Big Boys during the drops, even at the end, and laughs at me. It looks like I might have to do it again someday.
After Splash we go right over to Thunder Mountain Railroad and that wait isnt very long at all. I like this ride but I pretend wimpiness for my DD because she thinks its so funny. She shrieks in delight on every turn while Im shrieking in horror. The three of us are smooshed in the seat. Im on the outside. Im much thinner when we get off the ride. Then we catch the train for Toontown Fair to ride Goofys Barnstormer.
The only problem I have with Toontown is the lack of shade it always feels hotter there than anywhere else. We wait about 20 minutes for Barnstormer. There are tons of small kids in this line. Toddlers, even. This is a rollercoaster. Oh well, I think, its not a big one so it must not be very scary. Some kids are crying; they dont want to go on. We get into the plane thing, with the very hard seats, and take off on the short, fast, and bumpy very very bumpy ride. DD loves it. Robin and I cant help but notice the absolute silence of some of the smaller kids getting off of it. I wonder if theyve gone into shock. Its now about noon and the temperature is climbing, the crowds are heavy and weve done all the cant-miss things. I think its pool time at the Dixie. On the way out we stop at the Confectionary and look for Cherry-Vanilla Nut Fudge. Its not there this time, so I try their chocolate walnut fudge instead its fantastic. One last glance down Main Street as we leave I always do this, and make a wish that Ill be able to come back soon and we say goodbye to the Magic Kingdom.
