dd just dropped my dh's cannon sd1000 powershot camera

and broke the retractable lense. does anyone know about how much it will cost to repair and if you think it might be too pricey should he just purchase a new camera??

Dunno if it will be a good deal for you or not but canon has a loyalty program where you send them your broken camera and they send you a refurb and the price you pay depends on what refurb you take. My generic response is buy a new one. I am not that familiar with that particular camera, but my experience is that the repair would be at least 1/2 or more of replacing the camera new. I did a quick search for that camera and saw that while available, it is close to being gone in the market. Usually the next model is newer better cheaper.

If you LOVE that camera, the refurb can be a good option.

Look at it this way you will be helping the economy to get a new one right? Be patriotic!!!!

We had that exact same experience with our Coolshot s210 this year. (We have a blended household; Canon AND Nikon.) When I called the camera repair place, the guy there told me to just buy a new one- it would cost $50 for them just to look at it, and no telling if they could even fix it.
