We all 4 got the flu shot, but I am beginning to think this is a strain not covered or either a "flu-like" virus. High fevers until the Motrin kicks in. Went to the Dr's yesterday and she felt it was a virus going around, did not offer Tamiflu-which I am now regretting. Rapid strep was negative, her throat is so sore! I feel so bad for her lying there with tears in her eyes and hot to the touch.:( DS had been sick, but it was mild fever for 2 days only. I hate winter!!!

I had the flu shot, too. But I've been sick since last Sunday with a very "flu-like" virus. My throat has been raw, my eyes hurt, and I have had fevers (I'm non-stop on Motrin) and chest and head congestion. It's miserable. I'm with you - I hate winter, too! I hope your daughter feels better soon.

So sorry to hear that. :( Hope she is feeling better soon.

That's exactly what has been going around here - the entire family has spread this around - it's been floating through the house now for 3 weeks!!:(

It's really tough seeing our kids sick and not being able to reach in a magic bag and pull out an instant cure, isn't it?

Hope she feels better soon,
Pam

:( I hate it. She just threw up the motrin, it was too harsh on her tummy. Fever down to 102. Will try Tylenol in a bit. She is also dizzy now. This is day 3 1/2...
DH went to get her an icee, her only request. I hope she can tolerate it with the fever and aches.
Hope you all get well too!

I was just thinking - what about those new pedia-pops I see advertised on TV? Would those work for her?

My two are teens, so all of these new fever reducer items really intrigue me!

Sorry to hear she is still under the weather, Trpl B. :( Always tough when the little ones are not feeling their normal, peppy selves. My big guy, Vince, here, was similarly sick a week ago, really dragged out for a few days, but doing fine now. Hope she is feeling great soon. And everyone else who is feeling dumpy today, well, you too, my best!!!! :sunny:

Just called Dr. Nurse said there is a strain of flu from Southeast Asia making the rounds that was NOT included in the shot and Tamiflu does NOT seem to work for it:( !
Will have DH fetch some of those pediapops. I forgot about them! Anyone know how they taste? She did request and I got some popsicles yesterday on the way home from the Dr's. She is back sleeping, which is good at this point.
WHEN will summer get here??!!!:sunny: Not soon enough:( !

My DD has the same symptoms. She keeps saying her eyes hurt, has a fever 102.5 and is congested. She slept from 3:30 yesterday almost through the night. She is drinking water. I am going to have DH get her some of the pediapops.

I hope your DD is feeling better soon.

Sorry to hear that she isn't feeling well. I had something similar to that a month ago. It took about a week for me to get over it completely. I hope she is feeling better soon as well as others not feeling well :)

I'm sorry your daughter is feeling so ill. I hope she is 100% better very soon.

My kids won't touch those PediaLyte pops with a 10 foot pole. They say they're gross. So, I'd get some regular ice pops in addition to those (or in place of them).

Watch out cinlee3. My DD's fever has climbed 1 degree each morning. Almost 104 today, I dread what tomorrow might bring. Hope your DD gets better soon, and all you others with sick ones :( . This is truly the sickest winter in many years for lots of people. DD is sipping an icee and eating a cracker(been nibbling on the one for 10 mins!) and will drink gingerale, sprite or water also. I think anything they drink at this point is something. Making some jello for later.

Our kids won't touch pedialyte either. I use the freezer pops when they are sick. They taste good, feel good to their mouths and they are just a little bit of liquid to see if the little tummy's can handle it.
Hope this has just about run it's course and she's better soon.

I think DD has something like this.

But no stomach problems at all. Just fever, aches, chills, headache, sore throat. It came on suddenly about 2 hours ago....very weird. But, I gave her motrin and 40 minutes later the fever was 1/2 a degree higher. I don't know what else to do besides motrin.

I'm guessing the Dr's are giving the old "it's a virus" line with this one and don't have anything to help.

Oh well, we'll see what happens next.

Hey, I just responded to your thread;) ! The stomach problem this morning was a result of the motrin on a empty stomach along with the high fever. My kids always throw up when their fever's get high(even with an earache and strep!). She is tolerating the alternating of motrin and tylenol now. I plan to keep it in her through the night as I can't stand more misery for her. My Dr. called it a virus, I am now almost certain it is the flu! The strain our shot did not cover. I may get Tamiflu to prevent the rest of the family from getting it. We got the shot, but it was not for this strain! There are many wicked viruses out there the office said. Try popsickles, DD has eaten those. Hope hers is not the flu and goes away quickly!
