Picked my DD up from the hospital at 11 a.m. this morning.. She's home - very happy to be there - and my granddaughter is out of her mind with absolute glee..

She made the necessary phone calls to her job (re short-term disability from her employer; FMLA; etc.) and has an appt. to see her counselor next week..

We had a very, very long talk and I think she's on the right track and determined to do whatever needs to be done - even if it means leaving her job..

Ironically, the hospital sent her home with all of the info, salary scale, contact person, etc., to work THERE - on the unit she was in.. They can't believe how well the patients responded to her and how well she was able to deal with them when they were being difficult.. Even the social worker on her case felt it would be an appropriate job if she was interested.. The difference between the hospital and where she works now is that this would be adults (not adolescents) and the patients are not there long enough for her to develop an emotional bond (unlike her girls who may be in residence for several years).. She could work part-time or full-time, so she's giving it some serious thought.. The really funny part is that I TOLD her DH on something like the second day she was there, "You watch - she'll end up WORKING here.." I could see it coming from a mile away.. So - it's something for her to think about while she's exploring other avenues.. Whatever she does it is going to HAVE to be something where she is "helping" (making a difference per se) in other peoples lives because that's just the way she's geared and it comes so naturally to her..

If the weather forecast holds steady we're all going up to the lake on Sunday to rake and open up for the season.. I think the fresh air and the physical work will be good for her - plus it's a place she has been going to ALL of her life and she feels very peaceful and safe there..

Now let's just hope the bears aren't there as well! LOL :teeth:

Oh, C.Ann - I'm so happy for all of you!!!

(How ironic would that be if she ends up working there?!)

So glad to hear this good news. It must be a nice little ego boost for your DD to think she has had such a positive effect at a low time in her life. Imagine what she could do in top form!
BTW, has the "witch" gone? Or was she just having an inexcusably off day?
Well done to your DD, I wish her the best.

I enjoy reading all of your updates. Have a wonderful family weekend.

Fabulous news for all involved. I hope with the right counseling and therapy, she will be able to come out of the depression and be back to her normal self. Have fun getting the lake house open.

WOW--really happy to get on the DISboards and read this one!! That is so wonderful.

coming from you!..best wishes to your daughter that her recuperation continues at a fast pace..you and your family deserve some happy times together..you have all been through a rough time lately!
Load of pixie dust and blessings coming your way that everything continue on a forward and upwards motion!

Great news, Ann!

(About her working there...they say everything happens for a reason...that must've been her reason!)

They must have been really impressed with her. I'm happy for everyone. :sunny:

C. Ann, I'm thrilled to hear the good news!! My best to your daughter and good luck on her new job! Sounds like something that would work out well for her.
