DD is doing the laundry!

Everyone celebrate with me It's the beginning of a whole new era!! My life will never be the same! My 10 year old has asked me to teach her how to do laundry!! I'm sure the novelty will wear off in no time....but right now she's happy as a clam doing everyone's laundry. So far, she's better at remembering to get it out of the dryer than I am. Now, if I could just get her to teach dh

DS14 did our laundry for about 2 years. They had to do a laundry unit in home ec (family and consumer sciences) and he said doing laundry wasn't that bad. I offered to pay him and he got to keep any money found in the laundry and he did for about 2 years. He is too busy to do it now. It was SOOOOO nice.

My oldest DD just started doing it today as well lol. But unfortunately not cause she WANTS to lol. She is eleven and is constantly changing clothes during the day and overloading the hamper with "dirty" clothes so I told her from now on she is responsible for her OWN clothes. I get tired of washing clean stuff you know?!

She isn't happy but she is doing it. I still fold her stuff though lol.

Yay for kids who do their own laundry!! Mom's, this will add SO MUCH time back into your week.

Mine have been doing laudry since they were 8 or 9. Now when someone's gym clothes aren't washed over the weekend...Not my fault They even wash their own bed linens and bathroom towels.

This is the best life lesson I have taught my kids and has given me more freedom!!

I started my kids on laundry at the age of 10, too. At first I supervised closely, but by age 11 they were fully competent to wash pretty much everything. At that point I put them in charge of their own laundry. If they ran out of clean clothes, too bad, so sad. They had to wear something from their laundry basket. At this point all we wash is mine, DHs and Christian's, and he generates enough for 3 people.

One of my favorite phrases: Can you go get a load of pinks? It makes my heart swell with pride.

Our only problem was the time she thought if a capful was good, three capfuls were great! I found her standing in the laundry room looking at a very sudsy washer, saying "I think I have a problem."

DD is in charge of the household laundry ~ it became obvious early on any chore that had to be done at a certain time would create problems and having her particular outfits ready for school are a priority for her so...no brainer, huh It is rare that the laundry backs up but she can fit it in just before bed, between social events, etc. I will occasionally flip and fold a load while waiting for the shower to heat up in the morning to help out.

When I started school full time, my daughter was then 8 and my son was 10. They knew how much stress I was under and they began their own laundry then.

They have been doing thier own laundry for a while they are now 12 and 15. Granted they do their own, so I don't have the "I don't have so and so for school" issues anymore.
