Crikeys.

I'll be sure to keep my feet square on the ground when I ride Splash Mountain in September, in my first every trip to Disney!

That being said, I'm only 5"2, not 5"11... That's the tallest 14 year old girl I've ever heard of!!! Wow!

Nah, I was 5' 10" when I was 12 and 6' 2" when I was 14. Being tall, well it runs in my family. :teeth:

Father - 6' 3"
Brother - 6' 4"
Grandmother - 6' in 1910!!!!!!!!!
Son - 6' 5"
Daughter - 5' 10"
Nephew - 6' 6"

I never thought about being tall. I just thought everyone else was really short. :p

So has anyone posted a photo yet of the front of a Splash vehicle? :confused3 :rotfl2:
Now I am compelled to ride it this weekend up front and feel around! :rotfl2:
My curiousity is up! I want to know how a foot could get stuck and a log have to be dismantled to release it. :confused3
I think would be good for the MythBusters to investigate! :cool1:

Okay, I'm sorry if I offended anybody by saying that 5"11 is a tall 14 year old.

I didn't mean it offensively.

It was just a throwaway comment, made at about 1am last night.

As I said, I'm 5"2. Everybody is tall to me! I know there's tall people out there, and I have nothing against tall people at all! I was just saying, "Wow, that's tall." Because that's what I say when I see anybody over about 5"5, because I'm actually about this tall -

Thank You!!! All is forgiven. :grouphug:

This was posted in a thread which has now been locked. It poses alot further questions

1. Did the OP know this when he was posting, because if he did than that really makes me wonder??? Teenagers do stupid things especially when they are by themselves

2. I think that if this information is correct, the irony is that Disney might still take care of the family in some way, and they really don't deserve anything. Its just ironic since the post was started since Disney was not giving him "something" right away. Turns out he most likely deserves nothing.

Maybe disney should contact the paper just liked the OP wanted to...the headline could read "Unsupervised girl stands up on ride, hurts foot, parents angry because Disney won't give them free stuff, right away"
oh come on! Blame the victim right? Maybe Disney needs to add seat belts to the ride knowing the height reqirement set by them allows "unsupervised teens" to ride alone. She's a kid. If she did something stupid and needed to leave by ambulance Disney could at least check in on her. Helping the family cope with an injured child is not admitting guilt.

I think the issues may be summed up by stating that the father, the OP was not in the park at the time he had left his teenagers there. He states, I guess relying on the story that his children told him that his daughter never stood up on the ride and merely braced herself and had her foot slip under a "bar" in the log. Once again father did not arrive at the scene until much later.

We then had a dis member post whose daughter is working in the college program and rooms with one of the girls who was working the ride at the time. She claims her roommate told her that the daughter admitted to standing up on the ride.

That's the simplest way I think it may be stated
Holy hearsay! No one could possibly give credence to the roomates account.

Same could be said for the OP since he wasn't there either.

The daughter didn't "need to leave by ambulence", the family were given the option to have her checked out further and they decided to do so.

Sorry but this is true of all the accounts. The OP was not there and arrived 20+ minutes later. Everything is hearsay, that is why I told the OP early on to get the wheelchair, go to the parks and let Disney investigate. The OP started to talk about compensation, the newspaper, a lawyer, the $8K trip and much more. Seemed to me the OP was out for a BIG windfall from Disney and it was not going the way the OP had hoped.

just wanted to thank those for their support.

we are up today now at 830 am and are going to try and do mgm..........

apparently this is on another board as well now and it states it happened again to another yesterday, but ended up worse......losing a toenail and bleeding. I dont know if thats true or not, just what i read and was directly to see.

thanks all! :cheer2: :cheer2:

So sorry about your DSD. I hope she is doing better.

Can you please tell us what board what you read that on?

We are concerned because if it really is a "design flaw" it should be taken care of. We do not want something this happening to other guests

I did an advanced thread search using Splash Mountain+ injured on the theme
park and the community boards and only came up with one other thread besides the three about your DSD which were recently posted. Someone hit their head on Splash Mountain in this thread but no mention of losing a toenail or a foot injury other than the OP's 14 year old step daughter.
Here is the other thread:

com/showthread.php?t=1021685&page=4&pp=15&highlight=splash+mountain+injured

Here is a thread about theme park injuries (all over the country not just Disney) that were documented.

Here is the thread:
http://www.themeparkinsider.com/accidents/list.cfm

If anyone finds a thread about another person whose foot was injured on Splash Mountain please post it.

Thanks!

yeah ok sure :rolleyes2 It happened to HIS DAUGHTER but his account and the roomate of a stranger should be weighed equally....come on!

By all accounts their vacation was ruined. There is no way you can expect this family not to be concerned about the $$ they spent. It has been wasted. Pushing a 14 year old around in WDW while in pain does not top the list on how I would wish my vactation to be....better yet I would hate change places with this poor girl and have to expereince WDW in pain in a wheelchair. I think if Disney handled this in a more human way the father wouldn't be so upset and clicking off the list of negatives here in the dis forums. Instead he would be singing praise to WDW for how they handled an unfortunate incident.

For example...our son got a flaming ear infection the last night of our first cruise. We needed immediate medical attention and received it. DCL went above and beyond what was expected for our family. They called and checked on our son twice afterwards. Just those phone calls of concern made a bad situation a little more magical.

Would it have killed Disney to call the family and check up on the girl?

no need to roll your eyes at me. I'm just saying both instances are hearsay. I never said they should be weighed equally.

Boy, I guess you really want to pick a fight. I know what same means, thanks though.

What I meant was both the stepdad's account and a CMs' roomate's account are hearsay. In the eyes of the law, I believe they are both hearsay. How hard it that to understand? :confused3

You can read whatever you want into it.

I have had two asthma attacks at WDW and it would have only ruined my vacation it I let it. It takes me 2-4 weeks to fully recover so I did have to alter my vacation, but I still really enjoyed them.

So you think that a wheelchair guest cannot enjoy WDW as much as on who walks it? :confused3

Yes both are hearsay and both hold the same amount of weight IMHO.

:wizard:

Let's all treat each other with a little respect here. There is no need to argue over wording. These threads keep getting locked due to bickering and lack of respect for others. :grouphug:

BUt when retelling a staory which account would have more validity a stranger or the parent of the child was my point? This is an entire thread created to discount this mans post of what happened to his daughter. He came to the boards for advice and support and instead got bashed. How could what a diser poster's daughters roomate get equal consideration as to what the father posted? It just seems here on the dis boards anything negative to Disney opens the OP to a bash session. It is ridiculous. If my son was hurt on property and Disney was aware of it I would be pretty upset that they did not even check on my child and did not at least cover the medical expenses. I don't blame him for expected decent treatment during an unfortunate accident.
