Just trying to touch base with all friends who wrote when we had kids in the program. DD extended to be in entertainment and had a wonderful time. She has been there for just short of a year. How time has flown by! The semester is over and now I'm going to DW to help her with her stuff and to bring her home. (Actually, I wanted to get in another little trip to my favorite place! HA! ) She is excited to be coming home, but also is sad about leaving. I would recommend this program to anyone, as it is a great experience. It has been a long time since I have written on the boards. How is everyone? Marla

Hi Marla,

I am friends with YesDear, RweTHEREyet, and their son. I know they've been very busy lately, but are fine. I met RweTHEREyet in 1999 from posting on these DIS Boards and we've been best friends ever since. :) We try to get together for lunch at least every other week.

As you prepare to bring your daughter home from Disney, I have some exciting news! My DS was also accepted into Disney's College Program! His start date is May 19th, so we'll be heading down next week to move him in! Exciting! His role is "Custodial" and he will be there for 7-1/2 months! We couldn't be more excited for, or proud of, him! I know from talking to RweThEREyet and reading posts on these boards that he is in for a fabulous time. :bounce:

Have a safe trip moving your DD home!

Wow, it seems like last week that she was starting the program!
Did her roommate situation work out? It's going to be very hard for her to return, with my kids there was a part of them ready to leave there, and a part that was very sad to go. Deb T, use every excuse and opportunity to visit your son!

Didn't take French, so I probably messed up the spelling! I am having flashbacks of my remembering all my concerns about DD going on the program....... all worked out. She had so many changes in apartments, 3, when she extended the program, and each was a totally different experience. Going to visit her was the greatest, especially when I went alone and just had a mother/daughter time with her. She wants to go on and be a campus rep. and also wants to continue as a seasonal employee. She really had a terrific time and it was just a great opportunity that if you have the chance, should take advantage of doing. Oh, I was talking about the mothers, not the kids! HA!

Please tell Rwethereyet and Yesdear to get on line.

DD was also there for a 7+ month term there.....and then she applied for an extension! I feel for her, because I know how amazing this has been. Love to answer any questions from other parents who are sending their kids on this program. I had so many people who helped when I was new at this, so I'd love to give back. Marla

In the Disney College Program does your college give you course credit? It seems like a really good program. I am getting interested

:wave2: Marla, it seems like yesterday that you started that thread of questions about the WDWCP that went on and on and on... :) I got to meet some great people through that thread!

I am very glad that your daughter's WDWCP experience turned out so well. I was having dinner at California Grill just this past Sunday and thought about your daughter and wondered how she was doing in her new role.

My daughter stayed on as seasonal and went back to work Spring Break earlier this year. Of course, I went along to keep her company! :teeth: The only sad part of that trip was just missing YesDear and RweTHEREyet as their spring break was a week earlier.

Good luck to your daughter! Maybe another internship will be in the works for her in the future. I know my daughter is scheming to get another one!

My big news lately - we bought a house to be built in Orlando! Let's keep in touch!

donaldsgrl103...If your college doesn't offer the program, you can still apply and interview through another college. I was able to talk my department into accepting the credit as my main internship for my first major.

Good luck! If you go, you'll have the best time of your life!!! ::yes::

mirmatt -

I ate lunch with RweTHEREyet on Monday AND Tuesday! :) I told her about this post and she had some very nice things to say about you and your daughter. As I mentioned earlier, they've been very busy lately, but they will try to find the time to post soon.

I just moved my DS home from college today. Only eight days to go before he begins Disney's College Program!!! WoooHooo!

mirmatt, nice to see you post. Glad to hear your daughter is enjoying the CP. It does seem like just yesterday when she went off to the program.

My daughter and I love living here in Fl. We just got back from the parks. I love living 10 mins away now.

She got a full time job at MK in cast deployment.

For anyone thinking of going into the College program you will love it.

Deb T., good luck to your DS as he starts the WDWCP. I hope he has as nice an experience as mirmatt's daughter, RweTHEREyet's son, safetymom's daughter, and my daughter did.

jk1 - Thanks! We hope he does, too! Right now, we're in a mix of anticipation and excitement. DS is packing at this very moment, trying to decide between what he wants to take and what he needs to take. (I've tried to convince him that his apartment will be limited in space, especially if he is in a 4-bedroom apartment.)

I can hardly wait to learn where he will be assigned. I only hope it's in one of the theme parks. :earsboy:

What role did he get? Tell him to go easy on the packing. If he needs something after he gets there, you can always take it to him. :)

I second the going easy on the packing. My daughter took way too much stuff. They do have quite a bit of storage space but why take what you won't use.

Hard to believe I'll be in DW tomorrow. DD is excited but also sad. This has been a great experience. She is trying to figure out how to get together with people before she leaves..... I told her to make plans with friends and not be concerned about my being there. After all, she is coming home. I really feel for her. I know how much fun and sometimes challenging, this has been with so many new experiences. Anyone going to be around between tomorrow and Saturday night? Love to meet up with you..... maybe at Downtown.

As far as packing, half of what DD brought probably did not get worn. Each visit I would take things home with me. Winter and Fall seasons involve more transition in clothiing. Summer is just hot........ rarely a sweatshirt. Bought a tv while she was there and then suggested she sell it rather than shipping it home. She did that Marla

Mirmatt, I will be around if you want to get together. I remember how I felt watching my daughter get ready to leave the program. I felt so bad that she had to leave but was so proud of the woman she had become because of the CP.

Hey Safetymom.... I sent you an email.

Well, everyone, I'll write when I get home on Sunday or Monday.(coming home Sunday.) Talk to you soon. It is 5:00am and I am getting ready to go to the airport. Marla

And I thought Marla had fallen off the face of the earth!!

Hope everyone got home ok!

Know DebT just got home from leaving her son. Oh it brings back memories.

Prince of Thieves also went back for spring break and worked for the week. We have reservations for fall break so he can do the same thing. His former manager really wanted him to work for the summer but he decided summer school better choice to catch up from his trip.

DS lived at home this past semester while going to NC State. And we all survived. I think he had the harder time. He moved into an apartment about two weeks ago with two roommates. Seems really strange to have him in town but not at home, but that is part of the cirlce of life!!! LOL

Glad to see that everyone is doing ok. DW and I will be at WDW the weekend of 6/4 to 6/7. She is having withdrawals!

I guess we will live this summer through DebT and her son! As old pros now we can help her out!!!! LOL.
