I had been talking ot some of you about my DD's ear infections and the dr. finally decided to do the tubes and she got them put in today. She did really great with the surgery. She got a little upset when she woke up I think she was just a little freaked out but she did pretty good and they sent us on our merry way. We were there for maybe an hour...Best 1000.00 I have ever spent for an hours worth of work.. (we hadn't met our deductible for the year yet of course) Oh well whatever it take to make her feel better is worth it to me!!! Just lets cross our fingers and pray that this will be the last time her ears will ever hurt!!!!

Thanks for all the advice and the push to make me check further into getting her the tubes!!!

I am glad she is doing well.Tubes can make a huge difference in how she hears things for a few days-we loved to watch my DS8's face when he heard different sounds. He has had 7 sets. :) :wizard:

Im glad it went well. The waking up was the worst part for ds too. Let us know how she does with them.

They will make a huge difference. My DD got her 1st set in November and she says she has super hearing now. Very hard decision but the best thing we have done for her.
Good luck!

Ditto on the waking up part, ds only cried when he woke up and I was not in room. The nurse would not let me in till he came out of the med's. He has had them in for two years now, they are going to remove them in a couple of weeks. princess:

I will keep you all posted. Her teacher said she complained once of her ears hurting but that could of been not because of actual pain but because she could actually hear the kids being loud now. I know when I go and observe the class they give me a splitting headache some days. :rotfl:

The dr. said she should keep them in 6 months to a year he said if she has them longer than a year he will take them out. SO I hope they do well and we don't have to do this again. If we do lets just hope it happens this year and not January of next year when our deductible starts over..LOL That would be the pits!!!!

My son had tubes but in yesterday also. He hasn't really complained that much yet. He hates the drops I have to put in for the next few days though. I'm glad your daughter is okay.

One of my younger sisters has tubes in her ears. They may be bothersome for a bit, but they are usually forgotten, or fall out.

My DS (almost 2) had them put in 2 months ago, along with having his adenoids out. What an enormous difference we are seeing. No ear infections, sleeping peacefully through the night (haven't had that in months!!!), amazing speech improvements (today he enunciated perfectly), no more snoring (that was the adenoids), and better balance. Overall it is like my old child is gone, replaced with this "new" one! Good luck to you.

Glad to hear your dd is doing well. Also, glad to hear that your doctor told you to have them removed after a year. My dd had tubes put in when she was 18 months. No one ever told us to have them removed after a year. We moved twice within that year and changed doctors twice, but no one told us to have those tubes removed. We took her for regular checkups, told them about the tubes, but just never got that essential information.

Well, dd had those tubes in place for almost 4 years. Finally she had problems and I took her to another specialist. He removed the tubes. However, they had left permanent holes in her eardrums. He waited 6 months to see if they would heal on their own, but they didn't. He was able to repair them doing a procedure called a "fat graft". A small piece of fat is taken from the back of the ear and used to repair the hole. Easier said than done! Its a very precise surgery, if the graft isn't sewn in exactly correct the eardrums won't work correctly. Well, dd had a hearing loss from the tubes being in for so long. After the surgery (we had one of the best specialists in the country) she now has perfect hearing. My feeling is that the original doctor was remiss in not telling me about removing those tubes and the subsequent doctors didn't want to mention it for fear of "flagging" the original doctor's mistake. To hell with the kid's hearing! We were just lucky to have found a specialist who didn't care about stepping on another doctor's toes!

Glad to hear everything went well. How old is DD? Mine had hers in at 1 years old and it was an EASY decision - she had 9 ear infections between 3 months and 10 months. Those months of her life were spent sleeping at a 90 degree angle!! The tubes fell out on their own about a year later and just this year she's starting with infections again. She's had 3 in 6 weeks and if she gets one more this winter we probably will do them again. I'm a little concerned about her hearing though and she'll be having testing done soon. She says "what" and "I can't hear you" a lot and I don't know if it's a habit or if all the infections had an affect on her hearing. Good luck with all of this, I'm sure your DD appreciates not having ear infections!

DD is 5 (6 in July), and she had 6 infections right in a row. When he did the surgery her ears were healthy only after being on a drug called SUPRAX for 10 days. The dr. said if she continues to get infections then he will go in and remove the adnoids and the tonsils and give her new tubes. I just hope and pray it all goes well. I know this was much more stressful for me than it ever was to her. She has always done the What? HUH? I can't hear you!!! I think that is more of a habit thing and a "selective hearing" thing (which she inherited from her dad... :rotfl2: ) He does the same thing when I am complaining about $$$$$...HAHAHA

DS just had his removed today after being in for 2yr. The Dr. said there were a couple of spot's where he had to patch, keeping fingers crossed that they will heal. princess:

had to have my granddaughter have ear tubes put in and my grandson also....we worried about being on the plane.....but we gave them taffies and they were fine.....good luck to you....glad your DD got tubes.....it should end the ear infections.....

Good for you for getting her the tubes. My son's ears were constantly infected last winter, he just went from one antibiotic to another and nothing cleared them. He had tubes put in and his adenoids out last March and knock wood he hasn't had one infection since.
