Lauren ask me yesterday if we could go to "The Market" while she was home! I looked at her, like go where... :confused3 she said the market, you know the grocery store! :teeth: Mom that is what they call it there, the market! I asked her if she wanted to buy some Pop or Soda? :lmao:

So what do you call it? The Market or The Grocery Store?

We call it the grocery store around here, but DS who is in college in Boston (Beacon Hill) calls it the Market too. In that area they only have a lot of little markets (expensive markets). And a whole foods store which is quite a walk to lug groceries.
Funny how they change in little ways isn't it! LOL

It's a grocery store for us here. I went to college down south and I still call it the market though. People always question where I'm from.

It's the grocery store, or more often, just "the store". We don't call any other store "the store" - if it's someplace else we'll say the name (WalMart, Target, Office Depot, etc.).

Grocery store. Although usually we just say we're going to Shaws

I'm in my first year of college, and am driving my mom nuts with accents. I stayed in NH for school, but my roommate is from Mass, a good friend of ours is from Colorado, etc. Every so often I'll slip and say something in some dialect other than my native NH. I think it bugs my mom since my speech has always been a bit closer to Boston's than hers, and now it's getting worse

It is the grocery store here.

My friend went away to Michigan for college. When he came back home to NY he was calling soda "pop" without even realizing it! When he realized what he was doing he went back to school and was trying to force them to call it soda. He was also saying "donchya know" a lot.

Any grocery store is just the "store". The others( Target, Best Buy etc.) are called by their names.

Grocery store (mostly just "the store")

When I go to buy veggies and fruit I go to "the stand" which is what i grew up calling Foster's Farm Market. DH never seems to remember where "the stand" is! LOL

Grocery store or Stop & Shop.

Sometimes I call it "Stop me Shop Me".

We're weird in my house.

I have always called it the Food Store. Does anyone else call it that. Just like I say pocketbook, where my DD15 calls it a purse. It sounds like she is a little old lady. :rotfl:

Grocery store or the store. Like someone else said, any store with a name (Walmart, Target, etc) gets called by that name, but I'll even refer to the grocery store by its name as well (Publix).

And it's called soda in our family. :teeth:

Grocery store, Supermarket, Market...I use them all. DS however, bless his rigid little soul, insists that everyone call it the grocery store. (He has disability that makes him very literal/black & white, with rigid routines & language)

I call it the grocery store but can remember it being referred to as the supermarket. I've never called it the market and don't know anyone who does.

I had a roommate from PA during college and still say "you guys" almost as much as I say "ya'll."

Grow-shur-ree Store...

I dont beleive we say it right, in this part of the country.

We dont say "Grow-sir-ree" ....we say it wrong, huh?

We also say: Frunch-room.... as in "Front Room"

I dont know - we're a bunch of weirdo's :confused3

Same here.

I've always said food store when going to a supermarket. If going to a specialty store I say produce store, butcher store, liquor store.

We call it the grocery store, but in common speech we'll just say 'go to the store' or 'go to Kroger or Publix'.
