DD broke her iphone. Need some advice. What would you do?

Check the Virgin Mobile site...they may have some phones discounted.

For what it's worth (I would get a new phone or a new referbished personally) what ever you decide buy an Otterbox to put the phone in and this won't happen again. I use the defender and have dropped it from heights of 10 feet, had it rained on, sat on, stood on, thrown, and my phone looks brand new... my case is getting pretty skuffed up, but it is worth the $ for the good case it saves in the long run.

I would get the screen fixed. You can get it fixed at many places much cheaper than by Apple. If she does want a new iPhone, she should wait a few weeks and get the iPhone 6s. If she fixes her 5c, she can sell it and put the money towards a new iPhone.

Apple changes out more than just the glass. I had to fix the screen on my son's phone. I believe they told me that the glass, camera and home button were all one piece. Also, check for any denting along the sides of the phone. If the dent is bad enough they may not be able to repair it because the glass won't fit correctly.

Thanks everyone for all your advice. Went to the Apple Store tonight. DD used her money and got the iPhone 6. We went with Verizon, it will be $65 a month instead of $35. DD is going to pay the difference in plan cost. And she's going to put her next 2 paychecks in the bank to repay her savings account! She's happy! We were going to stick with Virgin Mobile, but they don't have iPhones at this time and couldn't get the ones from Apple to work with them, we tried. So went with Verizon instead.
Another question though, should we get Apple Care? We have 60 days to decide. We didn't last time, but I'm thinking of getting it this time. We did get a good case and screen protector this time also. Would you get Apple Care though?

How much is the Apple Care. I probably wouldn't buy it. The best insurance is get an Otter Box case. As a previous poster mentioned they do a great job protecting your phone.

An Otter Box is not 100% protection. I had an Otterbox on my phone and it still shattered. Appl care is eithe 99 or 199 more and you get 2 water replacements for 75 and most other stuff is covered 100%. I called Otterbox after my phone broke and they basically said sucks to be you but it happens.

Looked it up for the iPhone 6 it is 99. I bought it. I think the investment is well worth it because as I said cases are never a 100% guarantee your phone won't break.

Also drops don't just break the screen. The more it is dropped the more the small pieces get damaged. You could end up with no working wifi, battery, or hole button over time and only Apple Care will save that.

My daughter got a brand new iPhone from Amazon about half the price Apple charge

Also I wouldn't repair a screen I. The Apple Store there are many places in malls who do the same job for much less than half what Apple will charge

$99???? Apple sure loves to gouge their customers big time. I wouldn't pay $29 for the insurance. Apple's break even cost is probably less than $5.

The Apple Store tried to rip off my daughter and charge her $80 to replace the battery in her phone. I found one on Amazon for $20. Replaced it in less than 5 minutes.

Apple Care is $99 and it covers the phone for 2 years. Covers 2 accidents, battery and everything else. You do have to pay $79 in addition per incident. Still thinking about it, not sure though.

My Iphone's screen shattered with an Otterbox Defender also. I just bought a LifeProof case for my new Iphone 6. The case just broke (not the phone). I spent $80 on the case. I think it's guaranteed.

I got the Apple Care for my 6Plus. One nice feature is Apple Support. I talked to a guy for over a half an hour one time and he was really good, teaching me things I never knew about not only my iPhone, but my iPad. Nice to have that support anytime. Also peace of mind to know that everything will be taken care of if something happens. I didn't have it on my 5 and after it got wet one time I had a lot of problems but was stuck.

The one upgrade I didn't get apple care, I really regretted it.

The two replacements for wear and tear damage is great, but the fact that if anything breaks that's not from dropping the phone, Apple will just give you a brand new one.

I've managed from the first phone to my 6 without a shattered screen then finally it happened. Yes the apple care at $99 plus $79 made it a $178 replacement, but it's still cheaper than a new phone. And the best part, Apple shipped me the new phone overnight at no additional charge and then I sent them my broken one. The ability to avoid the insanity of the Apple Store was beyond worth it.

Outch, was the increase from $35 to $65 because they subsidized the phone? Realize that is $360 per year more or $720 over two years. With that kind of monthly price increase I would expected the phone to be $0.

I thought Verizon got rid of the subsidized phone contracts? Do they just let you pay for the phone in installments by tacking $30 onto to your bill every month?

When my son's was stolen- the replacement cost for his phone was $50.00. It was also an Iphone. My husband's broke and it was the same.
