DD's application is still in progress but appears that in order to keep her scholarship, she'll need to do two University offered on-line courses at once.

I know that is going to be a heavy load while working. Just wondering how accomodating Disney is with letting the DCPers arrange their schedule with on line courses?

Would appreciate anyone sharing first hand experience or what their kids did; what Disney was able to do.

Thanks!

I think as long as your DD has good time management, it shouldn't be a problem. I thought online classes were going to be easy since I'm on the computer all the time, but nope, terrible thinking. I messed up my GPA the semester I did the CP and I regret that part all the time, but not the program!

I don't have first hand experience, but I will be taking either two or three while I am doing the DCP in spring. There's a class you can sign up for through Disney (the name of it escapes me at the moment) but it is basically like a study hall class where you're given time to do your homework. You will also be asked to notify Disney of any classes you are taking, and I believe that will be something that Disney looks at when they assign schedules so that you aren't working too much. They are very accommodating of education!

Online classes do take a lot of time management. There will be little to no room for procrastination, especially on the DCP. Like the previous poster said, if your time management skills are stellar, it will not be an issue. I would recommend easier GE courses and avoiding tough subjects that require lots of time like math or history.

Yes, there is a class they can sign up for called "Distance Learning" while they are on the program. That basically guarantees them time off for studies. My son is taking 6 hours online while doing the program this semester. He chose to not sign up for Distance Learning, and is doing okay...He is pulling 2 B's, which is fine for his scholarships as long as he brings it up in the Spring...so it can be done. And if she is a good student, easily. With mine, it's like pulling teeth, but he gets it done :)

My daughter did two online courses and a friend of hers did three. They set one of their off days for homework, grocery, clean the apartment day. The other off day was the play day. She didn't have any issues.

Thanks for posting all!

She found out there will be no internship credit so IF SHE IS ACCEPTED by Disney she plans on taking one full semester on line courses plus two 1/2 semester classes - one first 1/2 then one 2nd 1/2. So would be 2 online courses at a time.

She may be able to get retroactive intern credit afterwards.

She has to have full time status to keep her scholarship and the Disney courses would not count for what she needs. It will be a challenge with that and work too. Hope there's some time for fun!

I have to remain full time to keep my scholarships so I'm taking 4 online (including a graduate class) right now. Obviously it can be done. I get Mon/Tues off each week, before I knew that I scheduled my Distance Learning for Tuesday 8-12 so I don't get extra time off in the week, I either do it on my days off or inbetween work. It is certainly the most difficult thing I've ever done.

2 is manageable, and should be pretty easy to complete. There is a learning center at vista with computers and libraries near the apartments, shouldn't have any problem.

I hope you are having some fun too!

My daughter is currently in the Disney College Program and she was taking a creative writing class on line. She just ended up withdrawing from this class. Disney was not very accommodating even though when she talked to The Disney College program beforehand, they made it sound like it wouldn't be a program. My daughter had a few papers due in class and with working a lot, it was hard to keep up with it. Of course she also wanted some play time. She recently found out, in order to pass this class, she needed to attend a writers conference in Sanibel Island, 4 hours away and for 4 days in December. She asked Disney for the time off, but they wouldn't give her any time off because it was their "busy" time of the year. She even showed Disney proof from her university stating she would fail this course if she did not attend the writers conference, but that did not seem to matter to Disney. So she spoke with the university to see if there was something else she can do instead of the writers conference, but they said no. Right now she is in the middle of appealing this with the university in order to get her credits back! I wish you luck with whatever you decide!;)

That's too bad about the course.

We'll have to see first if she even gets in the program. If she does, she has no choice but to try to manage the two online courses at a time. She's willing to try.
