DCL Transfers/Hotel in NYC

Just booked a DCL transfer from our hotel to the pier the morning of our cruise departure in NYC. Has anyone done this transfer in New York? Just curious what kind of vehicle do they pick you up in?

Also it's $20 a person which is more than we'd be spending on a taxi I'd think...is it worth it? We're staying at the Marriott Marquis for two nights before our cruise...anyone stayed here before? What did you think?

Thanks for any advice!:earboy2:

From what I've read it will be a van. The hotel is quite nice but only a few rooms have a view so keep that in mind. Enjoy your cruise!

That's what I was thinking like a club van...yes I'm crossing my fingers we'll have a view but realize it very likely won't happen:POn their website it looks like they have an eating/sitting area with an awesome view so that will work if we don't have a view in our room!

Yay for the Starbucks near by!!

It's Times Square in NYC. If you spit you hit a Starbucks. There are AT LEAST 8 within a 4-block radius of the Marriott Marquis. AT LEAST.

BTW - Since you're already in the Marquis, if you want a super fun show with great music and a cast that doesn't quit, check out On Your Feet! The Gloria and Emilio Estefan Story. It's right there in the hotel! :)

Oh wow how cool I that! That's so neat it's in our hotel!! Do you think it's a kid friendly show? Or son will be 6 at the time. I was thinking of getting tickets to the Lion King or possibly Stomp. Both my husband and son play the drums so I thought they might like Stomp. I will definitely check into that show!

I've definitely seen kids at it - and at the stage door afterwards. It's the story of their lives - there is depiction of the discrimination they faced, and there is kissing (I know little boys sometimes go EW at kissing) but nothing overly explicit. It covers through the bus accident and "Coming Out of the Dark" - there are bright lights and loud honking for less than 30 seconds at that. The music is all Miami Sound Machine and/or Gloria Estefan with one exception which is a song in the hospital scene she and her daughter wrote. The super cool thing is that the band partially consists of original members of Miami Sound Machine!

Did you say it is $20 a person from the hotel to the pier? Does that also include transportation from the airport you land at to the hotel? If not 20 a person for Times Square to the pier is a rip off. That cab ride would be less then $10 and is not charged by the person. Heck if you didn't have luggage it is walkable from there.

I second this. The main reason to do the transfer, I thought, was to have your luggage magically appear on the ship.

Opps I now see that if you book a hotel through Disney they can make your luggage magically appear. To me that isn't worth 20 a person for a cab that will realistically be 20 at most total (realistically closer to 10). Especially if you are move than 2 people it seems like a rip off to me.

I've never had my DCL luggage magically appear on a ship. We received the luggage tags but you always have to go get your luggage at the airport then go meet the DCL representative. Either way you have to put your luggage in the van/bus and then they either hand it to the porters or you hand it to the porters. It isn't like the parks where it does magically appear at your resort room with out you ever having to handle it.
With the hotel I read that it does. I could be wrong. That's just what I read. And when I went to Hyatt MCO it appeared on the ship "magically".

We must have been responding at the same time haha. I did see after reading about hotels booked directly through DCL it will magically appear. I can see it being worth it at MCO but not in NYC if the transfer does not include from airport to hotel then hotel to cruise since the NYC cruise terminal is not very far from the hotels they use in NYC. MCO makes more sense being an hour away from the port.

I hear you. You're speaking to a NJ girl so I was thinking that too. But I think if I were not from around here it would be tempting mainly because NYC traffic sux and Disney likes Disney.
