DCL Survey About Serving Starbucks Brand Coffees & Products

When they replaced something as Disney identifiable as The Main Street Bakery (where hundreds or more memories were made for us old enough to have experienced it through the decades) with the well-known, non-Disney Starbuck's, it killed it for me and many others. I hate to see them (potentially) do that on DCL.

Disney has teamed with other companies and used sponsorships since the beginning. Kodak, GM, GE, etc. Teaming up with Starbucks is no different that what Walt did when he started the theme parks.
In those examples, Disney worked with those companies in a research capacity. Giving other companies contracts to provide food and beverages especially within Disney theming was not something Walt did and to my knowledge was first used cautiously under Eisner but has begun to expand rapidly with Bob Iger.

This is exactly how I feel. As someone who grew up going to wdw in the 1970s and 80s, I was crushed when they removed the Main Street Bakery and replaced it with a Starbucks. When I think of Starbucks I think of the destruction of local coffee shops (which is what happened in cities I have lived in over the last twenty or so years- Starbucks came in and replaced coffee shops that we loved that were originally there). So it was a weird fantasy imitating life reversal for me. I have nothing absolutely against Starbucks, but I am a big fan of the local and individuality and find Starbucks boring.

If they kept the ambiance at both locations the same and just threw in the Starbucks espresso makers, I would be all for this change. I agree that the current drinks are hit or miss.

I would especially be all for it if they released "you are here" mugs for each ship, similar to how they have them for each of the parks. :)

Thr popularity of those cups fascinates me. For me, it is evidence that people are searching for authenticity, and Starbucks is trying to change their image to some extent by marketing a faux corporate, almost globalist, authenticity. In the end, it is just another Starbucks cup, even if it has the name of a different place on it, nothing like the the cup or mug you would have purchased from a local or individual coffee shop. I really do not hate Starbucks, although their coffee is ho hum, but I do regret them replacing Disney run coffee shops- among others.

I don't know...I just like what I like. :confused3 Faux authentic or not, I think the mugs are cute and don't think too deeply about them.

I don't hate Starbucks but if asked I always say Cove Cafe is my favorite spot on the ship outside of my balconey - it's my quiet place where I tell the bartender what I'm in the mood for and he/she surprises me... and I sit and sip and read. I have 5 Starbucks within a quick walk from my office and several near home. I'd love Cove to remain Cove. It will be whatever it will be.

I live in the Seattle area. We have a Starbucks on every block (sometimes more than one). There is one in my grocery store, one next to my kid's school, one across from our church. I see Starbucks everywhere I look in this region. While I like their drinks and get something about once a week, Starbucks seems so pedestrian to me. While it may be debatable whether the coffee is better or worse, I like the Cove the way it is because it is something different.

As long as they don't change the coffee machine in the Concierge Lounge, I couldn't care less.

I do not care whether they keep the original Cove cafe coffee or switch to Starbucks, I just wish they would get decent coffee in the dining rooms. I was so excited when Disney made the switch from Nestle to Joffery's - until I tasted Joffery's. :crazy2: It is as bad as Nestle.

I don't know, it's no different to me than people who get magnets or shot glasses on vacation. If that's the souvenir you choose to get, more power to you. At least it's useful. I've never collected anything like that but my SIL does.

Except that people do not usually collect the same magnet with a different name on it from each place. They usually collect totally different magnets.

I don't like Starbucks. I (usually) don't like their products and think they're overpriced.

yes. and for some strange reason I like THIS tea and ONLY THIS tea. I can't drink any other chai tea. Just that one. Probably because it tastes NOTHING like tea. o_O

I guess it depends on your experience of tea. I thought I hated tea (Salada, Red Rose was all I knew) until I discovered Davidstea boutiques. Now I know I like Chai... And most Rooibos tea, some of the black and white teas. Cove Café has great selections.

[QUOTE="scrapperkimmydee, post: 56012875, member: 542880"s, please!! I don't like coffee or tea. However, I do LOVE their chai tea lattes!!! the thought of being able to get one everyday on a cruise makes me giddy!
Interesting that someone who does not like coffee or tea likes Starbucks! :scared:[/QUOTE]

Add me in who hates coffee but likes Starbucks!! Can't stand the taste of coffee but I do have to say that I love Starbucks Chai Tea Latte, I like it much better than the Cove Cafe Chai Latte. Can't quite put my finger on the taste difference (balance of spices) but do enjoy Starbucks chai latte much more. Starbucks's chai tea latte is like Christmas in a cup. And I do realize chai is tea but I don't like chai tea on its own.
