DCL shows that they CAN cancel cruises for no reason - Wonder's 12/9/12 and on

Does anyone know if the Wonder is due for dry dock at this time? If so this could be the reason for the cancellations. I have not seen or heard of one though. :confused3

Sorry I just read some other info here on the DIS Boards that answered my question. My mistake!!

Sorry. I know you booked early while rates were low and moving even with an OBC won't be nearly as attractive.

I don't have one of these cruises booked. My TA posted a general statement on her FB page about the news. I was surprised to not see anything on the DIS yet and remember that in the past changes like this were not publicized well by DCL. I also remembered the recent discussion about this very thing.

http://www.wdwinfo.com/news/disney-...ls_December_2012_Mexican_Riviera_sailings.htm

.... For the 12/09/12 and 12/16/12 sailings, guests will receive a $250 onboard credit. For the 12/23/12 and 12/30/12 sailings, they will receive a $500 onboard credit. If guests do not move their reservation by 12/22/11, they will automatically be placed on the 12/02/12 Mexican Riviera sailing.

Disney has set up a special phone number to handle the changes to existing reservations: 1-866-325-3905.

While those are great OBC offers, I have to ask if the guests will be charged the current price for the 12/2/12 cruise or [rediculous to expect it I know] the price that cruise was when they originally booked. Maybe that isn't such an issue for the MR cruises like it is for the PC cruises?

I don't see why the ship can't come back for the summer to do Alaska. No one thinks that's possible?

While I am disappointed about the cancellation of my Christmas trip, I am still keeping hope alive for Alaska in 2013. If that gets released this or next week I am going to try to book it.

the wonder just dry docked in september
looks like they are getting out of the wc unless they are doing hawaii

yep - I would look for a Panama crossing next December. Although if they've got it in Grand Cayman starting 12/19, that doesn't seem like enough time for a Panama crossing.

Disney has to really rethink their itinerary for Alaska if they want to create a presence their. Even a die hard Disney fan like me, am looking at other cruise lines for Alaska. Here is just my 2 cents.

1. Tracy Arm alone is not sufficient if you want to do justice to Alaska. They have to figure out a way to go to either of Hubbard glacier or Glacier bay.

2. They have to increase their port times. Alaska unlike other destinations is all about ports, so they better figure out extra time in juneau and ketchikan.

3. finally, they need to start offering cruise tours.

I agree! I was ready to book an Alaskan cruise with DCL but when I looked at their itinerary and short port times, I decided to look elsewhere as I want to see more of Alaska than DCL offers.

Well, if they left 12/9/12 that gives them ten days to get to Grand Cayman. The EBPC in 2008 was 15 days total. With proper placement of the ports, the ship probably could get to GC by then. They already have the MR ports lined up and can just keep heading southeast after that.

I just got off the phone with DCL to move my 12/09 MR to the 12/02 MR. Which for us is not biggie, because it is a dummy date we booked on board our Aug Alaska cruise. The only bummer is we wanted to move to Alaska in 2013, which doesn’t look promising. Oh well.
The rep did say that though she doesn't know exactly where the Wonder will be going, the cancellations do have something to do with the yet to be announced schedule for the wonder.

And since this booking is one I had planned on moving anyway the extra $250.00 OC is an added bonus.

I do feel for those that were actually going to do these cruises, especially the Christmas and New Year’s ones.

Wow, I was really hoping they would keep the Wonder on the West Coast and try out some other Pacific Coast cruises. This makes me want to go ahead and book the Pacific Coast cruise in September 2012 even more now.

The Wonder is only listed in Grand Cayman until April 24th and then again after Oct 9th. I suppose it is possible that they do 2 more crossings of the PC to do Alaska and possibly another Hawaii voyage?

Yikes!

Per the press release:

If guests move their reservations by 12/22/11, they are eligible for an onboard credit, in addition to any that they may already qualify for. For the 12/09/12 and 12/16/12 sailings, guests will receive a $250 onboard credit. For the 12/23/12 and 12/30/12 sailings, they will receive a $500 onboard credit. If guests do not move their reservation by 12/22/11, they will automatically be placed on the 12/02/12 Caribbean sailing.

We're scheduled for the 12/30 sailing. Went to the Disney website, and all the cruises that week are 6 days! So, that means if we have the week we already picked out, we can't get the OBC? Plus, they need us to figure out what to do in three days? Are they crazy? I've had this booked for six months - I don't move that quickly. Surely they'd let us stay on the Wonder, right?

I think there will be a lot of very unhappy people here........

I would guess that more details will be revealed by DCL shortly. My thoughts are that DCL is giving up on the MR for now, as are other cruise lines.

Where the Wonder will be home ported is the more interesting question. It could be Galveston or some other Gulf Port, where it sails some sort of Western cruise that compliments the Magic cruises. Personally, I wouldn't mind a cruise that sailed to Honduras or Belize. That would explain the three stops listed per week for Disney ships at Grand Cayman. Galveston would also be more reachable in 10 days from the West Coast than Port Canaveral.

I also think that in summer, DCL will continue to do Alaska cruises. Again, they will probably compare the results of leaving from Vancouver vs. Seattle before deciding on a home port. Throw in a couple of Hawaii cruises and another PC and that would fill up 2013 nicely.

Successfully transfrered to the April 22nd date I already have and got $500 OBC! Now I have to have my TA cancel the original April trip and transfer my deposit money over. Trip will be half paid for! Yay! Although I am disappointed about the cancelation the $500 OBC really helps. Now I won't feel quilty about spending on board for the spa, Palo (if I go) and for whatever else. Thank you DIS for keeping us all informed. Oh and the CM I talked to says everybody is anxiously awaiting the 2013 itineraries for the Wonder and Magic. He had no idea what the new itineraries might be.

I think there is going to be a shedule redo. There has been a survey out there about a few different cruises. I think they will try out the 3/4/5 night cruises that they have been surveying passengers about. As someone who lives 20 min north of the port of L.A. I am very sad that they might be leaving, but I keep telling myself it is a might. It will stay that way untill 2013 comes out. I have a feeling they will be around the west coast still.

Well, I just started a cruise meet thread for 12/9/12 a short while ago....too funny!! Oh well...we will see what they come up with.

Thx for posting this, OP!!!!

.

My TA just moved us to a dummy date. No idea if we'll just have to cancel. I'm bummed because the prices on the other cruises for that week are much higher. And they aren't 7 days, I might add! We've got the $500 credit at least, but $500 credit and $1000 more in cost isn't a deal.

I am sure this isn't affecting that many, since it is a year out. But I am still really bummed.

Yikes, I just thought about airfare.

I guess most people haven't purchased it that far out. I do so I hope DCL doesn't cancel my cruise.

I hope they stay in the west coast.
My wife and I always wanted to cruise but it wasn't until we found out about the Wonder on the west coast that we could.

Next month we're going on our first Disney cruise, we were hoping to make a tradition out of it.

Oh well. We'll just continue our yearly Disneyland vacations.

Air fare was a MAJOR issue when they cancelled our 10 Day Southern, DCL canceled the cruise with less than 11 months ( normal airline booking window ) to go. I lost a lot of money in unrefundable airfare - all DCL would do is pay for change fees - hard to change from something to nothing... so we got stuck. By canceling before the 11 month window, they are at least removing that from the mix.

All in all it looks like they are handling this much better than ours - at least they are offering OBC to those who wish to rebook....we got squat...
