DCL sailing year round from Galveston in 2027

Strong rumors of Universal / NBC wanting to get into the cruise industry. Also strong rumors that Galveston would be the initial "home port",
Seems an odd choice for them. I would have expected their home port to be either in FL or CA. Do they have a theme park in TX that would tie into berthing a ship there?

Actually yes they are making a kids-focused Texas park. However it is near Dallas and that is quite far from Galveston.

Florida is a hyper competitive cruise market. Would be really tough for Universal to gain a foothold there.

Galveston has decent variety of cruise options but nowhere near what Florida has.

California and tying in with a visit to Universal Hollywood would make a lot of sense. That is really only a 1-day destination so adding more days via a cruise would be an easier sell.

Yeah, I was surprised to hear Texas... But maybe its a good balance of competition / costs (with FL being competitive and with CA being a little more expensive)? Not sure...

I've seen mention in this thread and several others about the Adventure being built for the asian market. But I've never understood what the difference might be. Anybody care to explain?

To be honest, not as much for DCL. Other lines, such as Royal Caribbean, will often add additional casino spaces and high-end shopping instead of dining and entertainment spaces. This ship has some Asian and Indian dining locations, but other than that, it's pretty on course for DCL (new theming and new spaces I know)

I would say some of the cabins which are a bathroom and four berths which convert into benches during the day, is something that I can’t see being popular with Western tourists.

Scroll down a bit to see an example.

I don’t know. If the price was right and you could connect rooms - I could see families opting for these when they want to have some space from their kiddos.
As far as I can see on deck plans no cabins are connecting.

The Asian market loves Disney IP and so IP will be everywhere. The US is weirdly ambivalent about Disney IP at Disney Parks (which I find incomprehensible). The Disney hotels in Asia are all Disney IP all the time. So I expect that Disney IP and characters will be prolific to a greater extent than DCL USA. There will also be Duffy on the ship, Duffy being far more popular and synonymous with Disney parks than the Fab 5.
