DCL sailing year round from Galveston in 2027

I cruised on the Disney Magic out of Galveston the 1st week of December 2024. The disembarkation process was the worst I have experienced on a Disney cruise. No passengers were allowed to leave until after 10:00 AM so everyone from the 1st and 2nd seating breakfasts were stacking up in the hallways and there was very little assistance or information provided to us by the Disney crew members. It was my 1st time cruising out of Galveston so I don't know if this is normal or if it was a 1 time thing. I do know as I left my thoughts were that I would probably not want to cruise out of Galveston again.
I am surprised to see this as our Nov 2024 off the Magic was one the best that we have experienced with Disney. Our Nov 202 was not great and I am dreading leaving the ship in that chaos again but they seemed to get a handle on it my last Thanksgiving.

I am so hoping for the Dream or the Fantasy. I didn't care for the Wish. It didn't have as much character as the other ships IMO and I was disappointed in the lack of shade and the adult pool deck. I know it is a champagne problem and it is still better at sea than on land :). We cruised the Carnival Jubilee and we found her large size as a negative for us so I think the Dream class ships would be a wonderful size for Galveston.

I'd be curious what the numbers on repeat cruisers are on Triton class...

We are not eager to do it again... Having only Triton Class ships based in FL would likely result in us cruising a different line and/or taking a different kind of vacation.

My hunch is that the Magic and Wonder never return to the east coast after this year. They stay in California, Australia, Alaska, and live out their final few years.

Means most likely Florida will lose a Dream or a Fantasy - maybe both over the summers...

PC:
Wish
Treasure
New Wish Class Ship

PE:
Destiny
Dream

My guess is they can get more revenue out of the new ship in PC, where there the fares just seem to be higher.

Same. After our already paid for upcoming cruise with our adult kids on the Treasure, we won’t ever sail on that ship again. Or the Wish. Due to the lack of shade and quiet on the adult only sundeck. Very sad - we normally sailed the Fantasy 3-4 weeks per year. We are now looking at booking the celebrity retreat for January.

I'd be curious as well. I seriously doubt we will get actual info from DCL about it though.

For us, we would be happy to sail on another Triton class ship. In fact, we will be on the Destiny in January. We also have a placeholder and are seriously considering going on the Wish again for a 4-night sailing.

I like the Triton class, but I was basically a "new" cruiser (it had been about 10 years since we sailed the Dream).

Our last sailing was on the Wish, we're on the treasure at the end of August. We'll probably do the Destiny next, unless there's something out of NY next fall.

We sailed out of Galveston on the Wonder in 2017 and would gladly do another Disney Cruise from Galveston, but all they've offered in recent years is very short sailings. I really liked the 7-night itinerary they used to offer to Key West and Castaway Cay from Galveston. I know that Key West sailings are a thing of the past, but it would still be nice to see some longer Western Caribbean sailings from Galveston. I'm not sure if that is what the local market favors, though.

We did one of those cruises in 2017 also, it was great! Castaway Cay, Key West, Nassau and three days at Sea! I hope they bring back 7-night cruises to Galveston my family has no desire for the short ones that they seem to be offering everywhere.

It wouldn’t shock me to see this either. Force people to go to Port Everglades or Galveston (not as popular ports as PC) to get on a Dream class ship.

I enjoyed the Wish. I have the Destiny booked for December. I will definitely be sailing on the Treasure and Wish 4 at some point too.

I would assume if they are sailing your round they will mix it up a bit more and offer some 7-night trips in addition to the shorter ones.

After doing the Wish in May 2023, I did the Treasure in February 2025. We're doing a Wish cruise this September and have a back-to-back booked on the Destiny in January 2026.

I was 'meh' on the Wish-I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. I LOVED the Treasure, though-not sure if it was the different theming or the longer itinerary, but it's my second favorite ship. Doing the Wish this fall as a bit of a 'do-over' (I wasn't feeling well for part of my first Wish cruise, plus we had a weird itinerary due to mechanical issues so it might not have gotten a fair shake). I'm very excited to see the Destiny next year!

One of the Magic class still needs to come back east late next year for the Winter 2026-27 Galveston season because the year-round deployment there won't start until fall 2027.

If they want to put the new 2027 ship at Canaveral there is also the option having it replace the Wish and moving the Wish to Galveston. (Wish is only committed to Canaveral for 5 years, which ends in 2027.)

But if Disney commits to sailing from Galveston year round, then they might have a dedicated Disney terminal, anyway.
Galveston does not have the space nor money for a dedicated Disney terminal.

Sailed out of Galveston for the first time in February. More likely to sail again from there with better itineraries that hopefully basing a ship there would bring. Embarkation and disembarkation were both smooth. We weren't terribly impressed with Progresso but enjoyed two nights at the Hotel Galvez pre-cruise.

At the same meeting, they talked about building a new terminal and other expansion projects.
That will be a new cruise terminal constructed by and for a competing cruise company (RCG) who wants to expand aggressively and can offer a far better financial proposition than a single Disney ship. And then that's one less space available for anyone else.
