Hi all~ I trust my fellow Dis'ers and wanted your input. I know only podcast fans look at this board closely so here's what I'm hunting for...
We want to take our first cruise on DCL in Dec 2015 as my present for my 40th bday and my college graduation. I am reading lots on the cruise board but there is so much info that it is overwhelming. Here's how you can help. Have you been on the Fantasy or Dream and had a particular room that you would recommend (or the flip side stay away from)? I'd like to be able to book a room as soon as they release and I know there can be a huge difference in the rooms based on location, what's above them/below them, etc.

Again…just trying to get a faster answer than wading through so many threads. We will use Kathy or Teresa at Dreams Unlimited to book so I'm sure they will have some input too.

If you have other cruise tips please PM me or post.

Thanks!

I would just make sure that there are no public rooms above or below the cabin you are selecting. Especially nightclubs or discos - unless you like hearing boom boom boom late at night. :dance3:

We have sailed on both the Fantasy and the Dream.
We enjoy decks 8 or 9 mid-ship. We prefer Starboard side since on our 4 cruises so far, we have always had a gorgeous view of Castaway Cay (I know it is possible they may dock in the opposite manner- but we have been lucky so far).

We like mid-ship since you are near the main elevators & stairways and it's fairly easy to get just about anywhere on the ship.

John and I prefer staterooms in the aft of the ship.

There is less "hallway noise" and the aft elevators are far less busy than those midship.

I agree, aft is good. I was on the Fantasy for my honeymoon in 5156. Great stateroom.

We like aft or mid-ship. Also middle decks. Too much motion on upper decks. [But often, we have little choice, since there are limited number of HC cabins.]

Thank you all! This helps a great deal. At least I know where to start and I know the Dreams folks will help guide me. I appreciate your help.

Val & I would echo the sentiments to pay attention to what is above and below you. We've been on all four ships and on the new ships prefer deck 8 or 9 in a mid-ship veranda cabin. We also like the Starboard side for the view of CC. :sail:

Location and room recommendations will depend a lot on room type as well. For example if you want an ocean view (no verandah), midship is not an option (except for deck 2). For mid ship on a higher deck you would be looking at a verandah stateroom, and on some decks inside as well.

Also it depends on how many people in the room...for example if you are a family of 5 you have more limited options.

My personal favorite is the category 8 ocean view staterooms, either 8B on deck 9 aft or 8C on deck 8 aft. These are larger than other ocean view staterooms and most verandah's. The square footage will look similar to the category 5, 6 or 7 verandah's--the difference is it is all inside space! So you have one really large window instead of a verandah, we find we don't use the balcony very often and the larger inside space (and round shower) work better for us.

Just a quick thank you to all who responded back when I started this thread. With your help we were able to book bright and early this morning through Dreams Unlimited once the cruises went live and we did exactly as Kevin and Tracy suggested with room placement/choices. Very pleased. Thanks again! Now to get serious on the little details between now and the Dec 2015 cruise!
