DCL Prices (Single vs. Double Occupancy)

I just added a second person to a stateroom that was originally booked as single occupancy. (Details here.)

One thing I noticed is that the cost of two adults is slightly more than the cost of one, even without taking into account the "Taxes, Fees, & Port Expenses (TF&PE)" line item.

For example, for an inside cabin on this cruise, the fare cost for single occupancy is $3,528.00 + $105.37 for TF&PE.

Two adults in the same cabin are $1,869.00 each (total of $3,738.00) + $210.74 for TF&PE.

It's obvious that the TF&PE item doubled because there are two people in the cabin instead of one.

However, if the single supplement is officially 200%, why is the base fare for two adults more than the fare for one adult (i.e. $3,738.00 vs. $3,528.00)? I asked the CM the same question, but didn't get a clear answer.

The second person is going into the room at current rates, not the rate when the room was booked, so it could be different. See what that category is currently running for a single/double occupancy.

The room in question was booked very recently. In any event, all of the rates I quoted above are current rates.

The single supplement is not officially 200 percent. Two is always a little more than one. Not much but it’s alwAys a little more.

Part of the "cruise fare" is a portion that are dubbed "non-commissionable fare". It is a big mystery in the industry exactly what these fees are - some say they cover fixed costs outside of the taxes and port fees (shore power, piloting, ground labor) but in actuality they are whatever the cruise line wants them to be, no explanation needed.

Some cruise lines double these fees for solo travelers, some do not. It appears that DCL does not. So your single fare was (base fare x2) + NCF + Taxes/Port fees; now for two it is 2 x (base fare + NCF + Taxes/port fees). But since they usually don't break out what the NCF are, you thought you were already paying 2 x everything but the taxes and port fees but you weren't.

Yes, I've noticed the same thing. It's a little bit cheaper for just one person, but not much.
