DCL Policy changes

Or, so everyone gets to eat in each restaurant, since there are technically three rotations early AND late, they could do this:

Group 1) Starts in Animators....always very casual....shorts, no formal, etc.

Group 2) Starts in Enchanted Garden....cruise casual (think pants and skirts) with optional formal nights.

Group 3) Starts in Royal Court....dressy (shirts and ties, sport coats, dresses and dress skirts, etc.) and formal nights.

Strict adherence to dress code in each venue/rotation (names changed based on ship, of course). That way, there is an option for preferred mode of dress and dining time without missing any of the MDRs.

What if I intend on doing formal night, but decide not to on that day, but I still want to eat in the MDR? People should have the option, period. People need to fous on themselves and their families attire, not mine.

I think this would be an excellent idea. That way everyone gets to eat in each restaurant and the dress code gets enforced accordingly. But there'd still need to be enforcement of no bathing suits/wet clothing b/c that's just not faif for ppl. to have to sit on a wet chair after someone from the first seating sat down and got it all wet.

And to make sure the rotation puts the formal night/optional formal attire people in the nicest/fanciest restaurants on those particular nights. Being in the least formal restaurant on formal night isn't quite as much fun as being in the nicest/fanciest restaurant, kwim?

You don't think that the same people who 'break' the rules now would do exactly the same with those rules?! Some people just don't want to bother with rules or guidelines .. Doesn't matter what you or I think, they believe they can do what they like.

It bothers some people, it doesn't bother others ... I'm in the first group, although not to the point where it ruins my holiday or stresses me out. Now, people trying to hide their children from view in Quiet Cove is another matter though!!! Grrrr

Loving some of these suggestions though, especially the one that says DCL should add minutes onto each day!!

So, what if those in formal wear changes the "feel" of my casual evening? Your opinion isn't the only one that matters. People don't agree with me. No big deal. No sad face. As long as its respectful (which I was) its all good. Ironically, I "dress up" on formal night, but respect your right not to. I don't care if you have on shorts at the table next to mine. It doesn't impact my "feel" of anything. I'm comfortable enough in my own skin that I don't need another person to put on a dress to make me "feel" better.

This works for the restaurant's theme nights, but formal night is formal night in every dining room, Capt.'s menu the same in every MDR, etc.

I really don't know what people are complaining about. Once you are sitting down, who notices? When you notice is standing outside in the lobby, going to the shows on formal night, etc. But many people who do dress up immediately go and change before/after the meal. The lobby on formal night is full of people who are wearing shorts and even swim suits who aren't going into the MDR's, who aren't getting photos taken or who are looking for characters or pin tradings or going to the captain's reception.

It is always going to be a mix of casual and dressy, of those who are into the dining experience and those who are just looking to eat and run.

IMO what Disney needs to do is have certain dining rooms designated as Formal dining rooms. Make it all fancy. Which imo none of the MDR now are..The rest? Cruise Casual. Folks could decided if they wanted to go formal or not. That way us non formal people won't ruin anyone's vacation.

It would sure be a pain for Disney...but if the demand is there I'm sure they could figure it out.

But the menu shouldn't be exclusive to the formal wearers..unless Disney was planning on charging a surcharge..otherwise no way..

You beat me to it! I agree, we really don't notice what other people are wearing, we dress up because we like to get good pictures and feel like it is a special dinner. But sometimes we are casual.

Exactly. As much as I'd love to try both of these... my cruise casual wardrobe doesn't support it. I don't make the effort to pack for it so its my loss. I know this up front though.

Like a PP stated... I like to coordinate our outfits to the dining room. Makes for great pictures!

People are upset because they want their vacations to be a certain way, just as you do. People tend to be so crazy loyal to DCL, that they often don't/won't try other cruise lines and when smoking is banned on verandahs or shorts are allowed in the MDR, their only vacation option has just changed in a manner they don't like.

From your post (back in May) about wearing jeans to Palo, seems like you were one of those "disrespectful, passive aggressive rule breakers ruining everyone else's cruise because they feel they are above the DCL's law and the rule shouldn't or doesn't apply to them" since DCL's website states VERY CLEARLY that jeans are not allowed in Palo.

I guess you and your husband didn't feel the need to "get over it and just follow the policy" as you are now instructing others to do.

Policy changes? I would like to see two different dining rotations. Instead of one early and one late, I'd like to see one for people who choose to dress up for dinner and one for people who prefer to wear shorts and jeans.

My husband was sent back up to change out of his jeans when he arrived for Palo Brunch last time. I was almost sent to change because once we sat down the hostess realized i had on jeans too. Now my jeans were silver anklets from White House Black Market and very dressy nice "jeans". Anyway i opted not to go change after looking around and seeing others dressed in frumpy cotton clothes. Go figure.

My recommendation don't wear jeans even nice dressy jeans no matter how expensive they are they don't care. Put on anything cotton that isn't shorts and you will be fine.

We were unaware of the policy at the time and my husband got to Palo before me both times, me not knowing what he wore or that he was asked to change. So passive aggressive you can not call me/us! Please read my last sentence again, just in case you still don't understand my future intentions when dining at Palo.

I think I feel a little crazier for having to comment on this.

Well, here I am surfing the web while Fox news is playing on TV... and my ears perk up....guess what was just reported.....yep....it was reported that Disney Cruise Line no longer requires pants on their cruises.....well in their main dining rooms. The report showed pics of the ships.

I didn't really think it was network news worthy but there you go....being reported on Fox news!! Maybe a slow news day!

I am happy about the smoking changes since I wasn't able to enjoy our verandah due to smokers next door.

I think the dress code change is fine although I really don't remember what others wore in the MDR. I remember more how dressed up people wore when saw hem in the photo line on formal night. Whatever floats your boat.
