... I do not see why so many people are so upset. Get over it and just follow the policy. If you are that upset cancel your cruise ...

:thumbsup2

I haven't been keeping up with everything and ...Does someone have official information about the dress code for MDRs? I just looked at the Disney Cruise web site and it still said "cruise casual" and no shorts for dinner.

For the shorts change: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/201...vises-cruise-casual-attire-to-include-shorts/

For the smoking change: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/201...y-prohibiting-smoking-on-stateroom-verandahs/

So many people are upset about recent DCL policy changes..no smoking on verandah's and shorts allowed in MDR's now.

Call me crazy but although I am happy with both, I do not see why so many people are so upset. Get over it and just follow the policy. If you are that upset cancel your cruise because we don't need a bunch of disrespectful, passive aggressive rule breakers ruining everyone else's cruise because they feel they are above the DCL's law and the rule shouldn't or doesn't apply to them.
:thumbsup2

Anyway, while on the subject. What other policy changes would you like DCL to make?

There're the poor old smokers punished again

Regarding the smoking, if DCL hence smoking area for smokers like outside bars etc they should only be for smokers but for non smokers to go there and complain again if you don't like the smell of smoke then stay away from the smokers area

That's my point. Unless they charge an exorbitant fee that the average guest feels is too high, there will be people willing to pay (or ignore) any cost that they feel will ensure a good vacation. Smoking on the verandah is very important to my mother as part of the enjoyment of her vacation. If she decided to sail DCL again, she'd pay the $250 if DCL can prove she's breaking the policy. I don't see her overtly breaking rules, so it looks like I will no longer be sailing DCL with my family until if and when the policy changes again. Or she quits. But I have no doubt there will be those not willing to get dressed and run up to the DSAs at midnight when they could just step outside for a quick one. Until DCL imposes severe consequences on policy breakers, people will break them regardless.

wow...I have made the decision to NOT cruise with Disney because they did allow smoking on the verandah. Sitting out there in the morning and late at night is important to my enjoyment of my vacation so the risk of getting stuck next to a smoker was too great for me.

Now that the policy has changed I expect a smoke free verandah and I have every right to expect this. If smoking is that important to your mother she should cruise with a line that permits it. She has no right to impact the vacation of others who booked with the expectation of not smelling cigarette smoke while enjoying that part of their vacation. Sorry but it is what it is and if she breaks the rule over again she should be made to leave the cruise at the next port with no refund.

Lol. This made me laugh. :D

I misread the policy regarding shorts... I thought they were restricting shorts from the dining rooms. My DH has been wearing shorts to dinner since 2008. Golf shorts but shorts nonetheless. A policy never enforced... he would have complied no prob if it was enforced though.

Many people of course are upset about smoke free verandas and say they will no longer sail DCL because of it. Like a PP stated... I can now continue to book verandas without fear of cigar or cigarette smoke next door.

Oh, you can count on the whining, that's for sure.

Me, I don't smoke. Don't drink a lot either. I just go with the flow, no matter.

Those who pooh-pooh the slipper slope argument, just wait. Sooner or later, someone will not like what you do for enjoyment and whine about it.:lmao:

Oh yeah, I would like to eat dinner in Palo in my pajamas.
I mean, it is my vacation and that would make me feel good. And like I was at Walmart.:lmao:

I agree with you. Now that people will be wearing whatever they want to in the dining rooms, and the rules are getting so lax, Disney isn't going to be any more "premium" than Carnival....except for the price.

Take away people's cigarettes and it's no big deal, try to take away their alcohol and suddenly there's mutiny!!pirate:

Equating drinking with smoking is apples and oranges. Smoking directly affects non smokers in the vicinity. It is not a habit a person can indulge in without the smoke drifting into others personal space. I also do not understand the mindset that a non smoker should accept being exposed to a toxic mix of chemicals as long as the smoker is following the "rules".

There are no 2nd hand waste products from drinking that can adversely affect others. If you drink on your veranda no one will know but you. If you are smoking on your veranda everyone around you knows.

None taken ;) I just don't see why people need to drink all day just because they are on vacation.

I take 3 bottles of wine on board with us during our cruises, we have a glass before dinner and usually take it with us to the dining rm for our meal. We don't drink all day we just enjoy a nice glass of wine before and sometimes after dinner

Sorry, but that simply isn't true based on my experience. I've had to be subjected to loud talking and making of noise when in the past I've been on the veranda in the dark enjoying the sea go by.

DCL needs to ban booze (or go on a ticket basis - say 2 drinks per person per day..and ban perfumes and the like which throw off volatile organic compounds that bother other people's breathing.

I agree Stacey.

I have a problem with second-hand BS. There's always someone, somewhere.

The other smoking discussions have been closed and this thread will also be closed if that is the direction this takes.

It is very close to being closed at this time.

I hope you're not serious...

BTW, one of the biggest generators of revenue on cruise ships is alcohol. It'll never happen, nor would I want it to.

I like having a beer or two during a football game on the ship, or a drink or two around the pool watching funnelvision, and again at night during dinner, and perhaps one or two at the club. I'm on vacation, and drinking (in moderation) does not impose on anyone unlike smokers.
