Thanks Robin,

Its nice to know you (and all the Moderators) are out there looking out for us!!

In case I don't say it often enough,

THANK YOU!!!

Hmmmmm..... very very interesting.

My confirmation e-mail slated the Party date as Saturday December 3rd. Could it be the party date will actually be December and coincide with the 2009 dates announcement????????????????????

Only problem is.....December 3rd is a Monday this year???? Could it be a typo and they meant the 1st??????

I'm intrigued, confused, and speculating.

I don't think the parties have anything to do with any DCL announcements or anything like that. Companies hire House Party, the company doing this, to have these sorts of parties as a form of marketing and advertising. House Party does all sorts of these, for products from hair color to board games. I've yet to be chosen for one, but I've also yet to be as excited about one as this one. :yay:

I hope one of us gets to do it!

I got the email yesterday and applied to be a host! :cool1:

Here is a link to the houseparty site that explains their host screening and selection process, and the timeline:

I suspect that the December 3 date is when they will stop taking applications and select the 1000 hosts. All of the parties occur on the same day, January 26.

I think it is a fascinating marketing concept, and I would also love to know more about why DCL is trying it.

I read it and it sounds sooooo fun. I hope you get chosen! (and me too!)

Here's some pixie dust for both of us.

If I don't get to host one, I'd like to at least find one to attend just to check it out.

I think there also may be a way to participate as a virtual guest, but need to read some more on the website. :surfweb:

I would love to attend one of these. If anyone from MN, IA, or WI is selected to host, please let me know. I would love to help out with food, etc., but don't have the desire to apply to be a host.

Did anyone else just get an email from Disney about hosting a DCL "House Party"? Have they done this in the past? Interesting.....

Since there is already an ongoing discussion about this I'm going to merge the two threads together.

I got the email too. It really does not make sense to me. I guess it would be worth it if Disney gave you a really great discount on a cruise, however, it looks like they just give you some "junk". I cant understand why someone would get "their" house ready, invite "their" friends, go to all the trouble to prepare food and drinks just to make Disney more money. I dont know....maybe I am missing something. I love dcl and love telling my friends about it , just dont understand this.:confused3

It sounds kind of fun, we're probably going to sign up to do this. It would be really cool if one day they developed a referral program that would reward you for friends who book a cruise based on your referral. My DW and I have said this for several years, as we know we've "sold" a few cruises.

I would think there will be some perk for doing this besides the "junk" one receives, but I guess it remains to be seen. I'm sure we'll all keep each other posted.

I got one too. I am a travel agent and our agency does "Cruise Nights" for other cruise lines such as Princess. The agency stands to make money from these nights and the cruise lines provide information while the agency provides food, drink, etc. I did not sign up as I do not see how I would benefit from this.

That is the day we dock from our DC Jan.19-26....I hope I'm not missing out on something big by just a week :sad2:

I got the email yesterday and signed up after reading thru the houseparty site fairly thoroughly. I was hoping there might be a discount on a cruise somewhere for our trouble, but if not, the goody bags might be really fun. (I looked thru some postings of a Clairol party and everybody seemed ecstatic with the stuff sent for that party.) I immediately came on the disboards last night to see what everyone was saying and didn't see anything, so glad to see something on it today! I imagine it might be hard to be in the 1,000 as many loyal DCLers as there are bound to be wanting to participate!

And what better excuse for a party? January is soooo blah....(is this a week before the Super Bowl?)

I think I've got it figured out.

This is the new hoop you have to jump through to get the coveted Castaway Club lanyard.

Why? Because it would be really fun. Because January is a great time for post-holiday cheer. Because it is fun to talk about DCL. Because many folks would be happy to open their homes, invite their friends, prepare food/drink, and have a great time talking about something that is so enjoyable for so many families. I dont see any need to "get something" in return. I am happy to help make Disney more money because I strongly believe in their product!!:goodvibes :goodvibes

Ditto...what better way to spend an evening...talking about DCL with people I want to invite and spend time with while enjoying tropical drinks and wearing my tropical attire....great way to chase away those winter doldrums!!!:thumbsup2
