I'm kicking myself because I was just on-hold for 10 min for MS and on the phone with the very nice CM asking for info on a 7 night Magic cruise this Fall. Anyway....I forgot to ask an important question and wondered if anyone knew.

If I book a certain cat on point/cash, then a month or two from now want to upgrade to another cat, is it an easy process or will I have to fully cancel and have my points go into a "holding" acct. I'll be using this years points, plus banked points, in addition to some points I'll need to borrow.

I appreciate if anyone can help with info on this so I don't have to call MS back again. Thank you.

I was trying to decide the same thing 2 days ago. Here is my scenario: I booked a family of 5 on Oct 25, 2008--total for the cruise $5060.00 in a CAT 4. If I was to use my points, it would cost me 496 points plus $5000.00 cash! This does not take a rocket scientist to figure out---save your points! The DVC CM said, the points actuallly cost more for a cruise if you get a discount--ALWAYS! Needless to say, I am going to use my points for a stay a SSR Easter of 08, and then take a cruise Oct 08 and use my points for a one night stay at AKL or GF the night before the cruise. Good luck, I hope you get a deal, and have a great time.

Hi there,
Cat 4 Family Suites are expensive. When we booked our 7 night Western in 2004 (strictly cash), I priced it out. Ended up booking two cat 10 rooms (connecting secret porthole rooms) for $3,000 less than the ONE cat 4 would have been. Those Family Suites are expensive.
I'm looking to book a cat 9 for 4 people (2 adults/2 teens) for a 7 night for 435 points (no cash except the $75 exchange fee). I just didn't know if I would run into trouble if I decided I wanted an upgrade in a month or two. Wasn't sure what the change/switch policy was when using points and cash. I guess I'll have to call back tommorrow. Thanks for the post.

Boy...that does sound crazy I must say :scared:

Just checking back to reply to my own question. I called MS again this morning to find out what the policy was for altering a preexisting reservation made with points and/or points and cash.

MS stated that I can cancel :

  • outside of 75 days with no penalty
  • outside 45 to 74 days I forfeit 30 points
  • outside 8 to 44 days I forfeit 50% of my points
  • outside 0 to 7 days is NO REFUND

I can "modify" my reservation for $75 fee and no loss of points or points going into holding if I should want to upgrade a cabin or change my dates and that can be done right up until the end.

I figured I'd post back here in case anyone was curious about the policy.
