DCL Member Cruise

I would not be using points but cruising on cash....so, I'll have to check with MS...about cancellations...as I'm unable to access the member website..

We will be on the phones Sat 10/23 too. DW is way excited already and we dont even know if we can get a room yet!

Great idea - the cruise meets board is great. For out 10 day cruise we've been posting for over a year and have over 11000 posts (with 2 months still to go). :D

It is a great way to get to know each other!

Hey Steve - I was wondering how long it would take for you to post. Glad to see you guys want to go too!!!! What about Dale and Karen?

Oh this is going to be a fun trip!!!!!!

Hey, if we can't get rooms, we can always camp out on deck!!!!

Gail

PS The Alaska pictures were awesome!

Looks like there was a lot of nice gifts! Everyone on the DVC member cruise received 50% off another cruise? Wow! How many of you booked another DCL cruise @ 50% off?

The navigators you posted. More than one navigator said if you booked another cruise you received 50% off. Was I reading incorrectly?

Hmmm. maybe I'm wrong. I'll go back and read them myself. It was over a year ago now.

Ahh I did find it too. http://monorailgreen.info/member/navs/2_3_p3.jpg
about halfway down on the left. Didn't remember it as we already had a May Western booked before the 2003 one was even announced.

They had so much going on on that cruise every time you turned around there was something else! :hyper:

Yeah, I remember an offer like that - but did we book another cruise????? Of course not, who would have thought that we would be back on the ship two more times within the next 12 months!!! I think there was some room credit offered also!!!

Is it time to start calling yet???

Gail

Not quite yet Gail, Athough I've already checked both phones to make sure they work with redial. :teeth:

And while i got your attention you need to look in the pm box once in a while Gail ;)

While Mark was looking at the navigators posted I decided to go look at our scrapbook. There were actually 5 exclusive offers on the cruise:

* First 100 members who added on 100 or more points got a crystal DVC collectible. I know a number of people from the DIS got this.

* Add on offer at Beach Club - purchase 100 or more vacation points at Beach Club and save $10 with Magical Beginnings.

* Castaway Cat Recreation - purchase a CC rental for the first day and get the second day for free.

* Walt Disney Collectors Society offer - receive a special DVC Passport case when you become a member or renew your membership. They were really nice - I had just renewed in January before the cruise and they gave me one.

* Save 50% off your next cruise when you book while on board. As Mark said we didn't take advantage of it as we had a May 2003 cruise booked and paid for. Didn't think we'd be going back in 2004, but then the 10 day came along .:D

So, we could come back with more points and another cruise booked! Oh my, I wonder how our home equity credit line looks!!

Bobbi:boat:

We did use the discount on our next cruise - we were even able to get the same room we had on the DVC cruise!

Did you actually receive 50% off? It states up to 50% off, just curious to know if it was a deal not to be missed!

The navigators look very similar to a regular cruise. What was so special about the members cruise (besides the great people)?

Still trying to justify the points, extra time off work, missed days of school etc.

Help! Give me all the great details. Is the members cruise not to be missed? Remember we will have just gotten off of the 14 day repo cruise.

priced way too high for a 4 night cruise

we are looking at a 7-day Carnival Cruise out of Tampa that same month and it is less per person than an inside Category 11 room on the DVC cruise!

I think the point values on this cruise are very reasonable compared to this past summer. We booked a cat 7, 3-day in July, and used 341 points for 3 people. The same category with the same people and a 4-day for this cruise would be 357. I think we're going to try and go. The scheduled doesn't work for the kids, they can't miss 3 days of school, so it looks like an adult getaway to me!

The answer to this really depends on your specific viewpoints. No one argues that WDW tends to be more expensive than comparable accomodations with their competition. However, most people on this board (because we're here as a result of our love of WDW) feel it's the "Magic in the air" and the whole "experience" that makes it all worth the extra expense.

For someone who is not into Disney, and just can't seem to "feel" the magic, a trip to Six Flags may be just as enjoyable to them and they might argue that WDW is not worth the money.

Well, it's kinda the same thing with the DVC Cruise. You're on a ship full of other DVC members (many of them from this board) and you know that you all share at *least* one thing in common... Your love for the DVC experience. To the average person, finding a small tea pot left on their bed as a surprise is pretty nice. For a Disney fanatic to find a small Disney Tea Pot left on their bed as a surprise gift is a huge thing! That Tea Pot might be worth $20, but the thrill and experience is priceless!

So, you can't really look for the value in whether Disney compensates with enough material items. You need to decide if you would enjoy the experience so much that the extra money is worth it to you.

Everyone I've spoken with who attended the first one has felt it was an awesome experience that they would *love* to do again.
