For excursions. Specifically at La Spezia and Villefranche, but in general as well.

We're first timers going on the 8/22/15 Magic Med cruise. I just can't find a definitive answer on the DISboards or anywhere. I've read different things, not necessarily conflicting, just trying to make sense of it. I read:
  • It's first come, first serve. If our "ashore" time is 7:15, queue up well before that (6:30?) to get off quickly;
  • The official DCL excursion passengers get off first.
If we dock at La Spezia for "ashore" time of 7:15, can we hope to get on an 8:00 train somewhere? Same question for Villefranche? Cittevecchia? That is my ultimate question.

Thanks for helping the newbies sort it out.

Everyone gets off very quickly, we did a 12 night last year including all of those ports and were off within minutes of the all ashore time.

Security is fast, you do not tender at any port, bar Villefrance which adds about 30 minutes to the transfer time as you use smaller boats and the ship doesn't dock.

Yes station isnt far and you dock but need a port shuttle to the town you cant walk through the dock it takes 10 minutes and runs every ten minutes.

Same question for Villefranche? Good news station very close. bad news you tender in.

Cittevecchia? Good news you dock, but you need a port shuttle to the road, and then the station is a bit further away.

Lots of details on the ports and the ship from last year here.

DCL shore trips do get off quickly the only effect you will feel is at Villefrance.

Villfrance the station at the right and the tender dock top left in front of a castle type building with four holes.

Hi I'm also on the 22 August Med cruise, i note from the cruise planner website that La Spezia is now showing as tender.
Thanks Disney Fantasy for the great photo of Villefranche, i'm planning a day on the beach and this gives a great view of it.
Gillian.

In 2013 La Spezia went from Tender to a docked port, we were docked in 2014, my photos on that blog show that, Not sure why they would swap back, I think its an error. Go by what DCL tells you, that site maybe old.

It is the DCL site telling me this on the Reservation Summary under My Cruise Activities. Gillian

We tendered in La Spezia in 2011 and we walked to the train station, no shuttle needed. It was a bit of a walk, maybe 15-20 minutes.

We also walked easily to the station in Civitavecchia.

We always got off right away in the morning. The all ashore time is very accurate!

In 2014 we docked in La Spezia and all cruises did.

These are photos from my blog showing La Spezia and being docked, now sorry for the very bright sunlight on the first two, we were dicking, the sunlight was making the photos out of focus, but behind my laughing daughter, as we were leaving, you can see a a man on the next balcony, that's the very nice...
