Hi All! I am "Maine Jennifer's :hippie:" Dad and am no longer lurking in the background as was in one of her post here. Came on board Dis Boards so I can put my two cents worth in from time to time. My wife Jeanette and myself Everett are very much looking forward to this cruise. It will be good to see all of you again that we met through our daughter's friends on the Dis Boards on our 2008 Panama Canal Cruise.

Welcome Steamboat Willie, which Panama did you do? EB or WB? We were on the WB.

We've done it. We have invested $1800 this year for a vacation late next summer. I can't believe it but we will finally cruise on a Disney ship and it only took repositioning it to the Alaska route to get us to finally commit.

Now how do I pay for the airfare??? Hey BlueMarlin, do you think driving from Detroit Michigan is too far? We can share the driving. MapQuest says 38 hours and 2500 miles each way?? If we drug the kids and tie up the wives I think we can do it...or reverse that, drug the wives and tie up the kids...hehe!

I would of thought that Maine would of gotten a lot of snow with all the winter storm on the east coast this year.

Christi

This year it was as if the snow went south with the birds. Everyone south of us got more than they wanted. However last week we did have a wet Nor'easter. Lot of rain and damaging wind. We lost power for 9 hours. A lot of trees came down from the wind. Wind was clocked at hurrican speeds during the storm.

Welcome Steary Family. Glad you are joining us:cool1::banana:

Can we fit all 7 of us plus luggage in your 50 mpg car? or is that where the tying and drugging part come in?

Chris- I know that it is you wanting to drive.
Christine would hate to be in the car that long. We can see how she does when you drive to FL.

I asked Erik if we could drive. I thought it would be great to see the rest of the US. Erik asked me if I was nuts. I would take about 4 days each way.

MAtt says:sad2:

In case you haven't figured it out, csteary are the friends that we will be sailing with. We are very excited!!

We have had many adventures together.

So, in any trip what's the most important thing? Well, men are going to know what I'm talking about here: FOOD! Gotta have food unlike that at home that's really good.

That being said, for those of you who are familiar with Vancouver...is Japadog really that good? They get alot of hype that's for sure.

I think it could work...of course this one trip will burn just about all my vacation time, but I guess that is what it is for.
Would we feel the same after the 3rd day, that driving was worth the cost savings? But I have always wanted to do this drive and I can't think of a better reason not to at the moment.

Erik went to AAA and got a trip tic and all the state books on Friday.

After looking at all the info---- We are NOT driving!

We are planning on staying in Vancouver/Seattle after the cruise.
We want to go to Olympic National Park.

Matt and I said we could go to Forks. The city where Twilight was filmed.

Depending on what you want to do. You could take the bus from downtown Vancouver to downtown Victoria via the BC Ferries. Tour around Victoria a bit and then take the Coho Ferry to Port Angeles. Then rent a car and do Olympic National Park. I can help you plan the logistics, if you need help.

YES! According to my pal Woody! :thumbsup2

After returning from Vancouver he and Mrs Woody were on a quest to duplicate them. Took a lot of searching to get the right kind of seaweed, but they were successful. The version they made for me was made with a grilled apple/chicken sausage/frank, mayo, seaweed, onion and teriyaki sauce. Who would have thought how devine that tasted? :cloud9:

Thank you for you offer. I may take you up on it later. We are still in the planning stages. Not sure what we want to do yet.

I was looking at some travel guides today. How far is Bannff from Vancouver?
I saw there were tram rides and hot springs in the area, too as well as the National Park.

cough*thats what I am planning*cough
Just got to break it to Dave:laughing:
We havent quite pinned down the logistics yet...all we know for definate is we will be getting on the ship on the 23rd, and want to be in Vancouver by the 22nd! I have casually mentioned to my boss that I may want a month off...:rotfl2:
We had hoped to fly in somewhere a bit warmer ( tell Matt I am with him Christie, Alaska leaves me cold too, pun definatly intended, I am only there for DCL:love:) and fly out of Vancouver, but it is proving to be stupidly expensive, so might go in and out of Seattle ...or something, need to get the 'bumper book of the USA' out to decided. Dave fancies a National Park or two...and this seems to be turning into the Fluffy Bunny show.., and as he will be doing most ( if not all) of the driving ...what can I say, he is a nervous passenger:rolleyes1....then so be it!
I will need some beach time...and maybe a bit of Vampire time too...although I am conscious that we may be spending alot of time driving, like we did when we went to California! Your country is just SO big
We will have atleast a fewdays in Vancouver and surrounds after, although the girls have to be back at school in early Sept. We love Vancouver, almost seriously concidered emigrating after our last visit...we have never been in the summer though...it does get warm doesdnt it??:confused3

Maria,
Too bad you could not bring your scout bus over, Dave could of been our tour director.

We are considering the Wonder our destination. The ports are just a bonus for the cruise.

No stripping to our " skivvies' on any excursions on this cruise.

Banff is a good days drive from Vancouver. Haven't done it for quite awhile and the last time we did, we took about two days to get there. Mainly, because we sightsee'd along the way and the kid's were pretty young then.
One option for that is to fly into Calgary and then rent a car (Budget and National are the big ones here) and drive to Vancouver. You can always fly into one city and out of another. You don't seem to save anything these days by flying round trip. Punch into Orbitz multi-city flights. Fly into Calgary, Alberta and out of Seattle. So, many options and the Rockies are well worth the visit. So, beautiful to see.

There are hot springs in a few places - Banff is the biggest, there is one in Harrison about an 1.5 hour drive from Vancouver. Also, trams in lots of places. Banff, Jasper, Hell's Gate, Whistler.

Yes, Maza - August will be warm here - not Caribbean warm though.

:welcome::welcome::welcome: Chickflick.

My DD will be 10 on the cruise, too.
She would love to email your Dd before the cruise. It will make her feel better knowing she already has a friend on board.

We are cruising with some friends and they have a boy our son's age.
