"DCL Klondike Kruisers" - August 23, 2011 PART 2

I wonder if most are also wearing jeans to dinner?

No jeans for us either. We will be wearing convertible cargo pants that can either be worn as shorts or long pants - you just zip off the legs when you want shorts. We will have one pair of dressier pants to wear to Palo. When jeans get wet they are not very good at keeping you warm.

I have most of our stuff packed since it is stuff we don't wear in the summer here Florida. Love those compression sacks.:cool1:

I must bring whatever I have in clothing at that point. To date DH is down 58 and I'm down 41 and I have been shopping for a bit every weekend and am having a hard time finding clothes because the stores haven't switched over to fall clothing completely yet.....hopefully the next few weeks is more fruitful.

Hiya!
My wife and I sailed on the July 5th sailing and know some of you.

After some questions around, figured I'd just save time and introduce myself to all of you and offer directly. :)

You guys are going to have an AMAZING time! Everyone who has ever told you you have to see this for yourself is absolutely right. No other way, no picture can completely convey what you're about to embark on.

Soo.. what can I help with? And there isn't such a thing as a stupid question. :)

Hi Mark!!!

We can't wait to cruise. You and Mary have been very helpful already!!

Did you see more people in jeans at dinner than a normal warmer cruise. I am trying to pack light since we need so much outer wear.

I could wear capri's in 60-70 degree weather. I think I'm bringing mostly long pants and some short for Vancouver.
Im to round and to close to the ground for capris. Long pants and shorts here.

I think it is all relative. We will be leaving 90 - 100 degree weather so 70 is going to feel cold.:scared1:
I agree It was 99 on my way home from work here, today

It looks like most are just wearing jeans. I am bringing mine- positive thinking- if not just to wear over my swimsuit while running to the hot tub!!

I am an early morning deck 10 walker, I wonder if it will be too cold!!!

What are Tommy and Jim going to do to get their early morning coffee!!!
Maybe we can meet up

Congrats Awesome job!!!! Send a little motivation my way, I have fallen and I cant get up.

Definitely taking my bathing suit. Already counting the days until we can go in the hot tub. 4 Weeks TODAY:cool1:
Four Weeks!!!!!

As for the bathing suit, I'd rather have it and not need it than the other way around!
Good thinking! Plus, a swimsuit is so small compared to a jacket or pants etc. It will hardly take up enough space to justify not bringing it. I know I will use mine! My mom and sister managed to not go in the pool once on the last Disney Cruise we went on so they are determined to go in this time. Just so they can at least say they've been in the pool. :rotfl2:

Hm.. clothing clothing clothing.. Don't remember noting jeans or not at dinner, which you could take as it'd be perfectly acceptable. My personal dinner packout for the entire trip was: 5 polos, 2 dockers, one suit. Brought 2 pairs of jeans mostly for the excursions that wound up being worn the 1st night dinner as the luggage showed up after.

A few other things on the subject..

No, I don't think you'll need shorts, about the only time I actually felt hot was in the tropical room of the Vancouver Aquarium. :rotfl: Don't know if we got past 70 more than once the entire cruise.

Pools, the pool deck isn't totally enclosed, no. However, we didn't sail at a speed with winds anytime we were in the inside passage, so even the partial enclosure of deck 10 above kept it from getting too cold up there. Plus the fact the pools are freshwater and kept heated to 82 degrees the entire cruise, don't rule them out as many did on ours, it was rare to see a crowded pool.

And all the advice is layers layers layers. Keep them as lightweight layers as possible. Especially keeping in mind you'll have to carry them if you take any of it off when out and about. Most of the excursions are setup to keep you reasonably warm, about the only time you might get cold for real is actually visiting a glacier. We got lucky in that every one of the locals who mentioned it said it was unusual for us to have had the kind of dry weather we had the week we sailed, really didn't need it, but considering that statement the outermost layer should be water resist. All we wore the entire time was an Eddie Bouer jacket with hood we bought at the outlet and Disneyland fleeces with hood that we got out there years ago. And left out the fleece a lot of the time. It will be a cooler when you go, so you'll probably want the fleece more.

That's because summer hasn't shown up consistently yet........ :(

Thanks, let me tell you, it's been easier than anything I've ever done in my life. It's only been 13 weeks and for me that is very quick, especially since on WW I used to lose 1/2 a lb a week. Now I get anxious if I don't lose 3 or 4 lbs in a week...but hey it is a good feeling

Oh, don't get me wrong, there's an entire story behind that, I'm not laughing at the temperature.

We flew in directly a few days early and I am very glad we did. You have a beautiful city and province, it was as much a part of our time on vacation as the cruise on the Wonder.

Sunday we did a LandSea Tour for the day over to Victoria and the Gardens and that was a wonderful experience, including the BCFerry ride to/from. Part of it had to be we had a local guide who really kept the whole day interesting.

Monday we did the Hop-on/Hop-off bus around Vancouver and I was simply floored by the architecture and the application of greenspace even into the most urban of places. The electric buses are also an impressive feat of engineering. We originally were planning on taking the horse drawn ride around Stanley, but when the driver of the town loop bus announced there was an included separate one that just toured the Park, that was a pleasant surprise. I wish we had something as well protected and preserved here in Chicago as you do with Stanley Park.

Now mostly what I was laughing about was Vancouver Aquarium is a great one, the marine life demonstrations were very interesting, even more than the Shedd Aquarium we have here. Another little happy thing was the bus driver offered to sell us the admission in advance and it's a very good thing we did. There was a HUGE line to get in! On a Monday, no less, I can't imagine what a weekend there must be like. And it was funny in a good way to find a whole walk thru area that was tropical in a way I'd more expect to find in the deeper areas of the Everglades in Florida! That was about the last thing I was expecting to find up that far north.

Good Morning Mark
I see you and Mary had a great time. Our group who you know Nancy and Me, Joanne and Roger and Leisha and Tom. It looks like we will be doing a lot of the same things in Vancouver as you and Mary did. Not counting the day we arrive Mark we will have two full days to tour Vancouver before we cruise.
As for myself Mark I will be taking my bathing suit and some shorts. For those of us who live in Newengland a 70 degree day is great for shorts.
I start wearing mine in April when it's in the 60's:lmao:. I can't speak for our cruising pals from the south (*Florida). I know one if it isn't 80 she is wearing jeans right Joanne.:lmao::lmao:. Now I don't know about our pals from Kentucky??.
Well enough of having fun. Everybody have a great
day.
Mark give Mary a big hug from all of us.

Dan

WE too are flying in on Saturday,, Doing the hop on off bus Sunday and renting a car and going to Whistler on Monday.

Did you do the suspension bridge?
