"DCL Klondike Kruisers" - August 23, 2011 PART 2

every dog I have ever had loved carrots, except this (doxie) that I have now, she is such a strange dog!

My Bassett (Walter) does not like anything that is good for him somewhat like his masters. He is not feeling well because my husband let him out forgot him while I was gone and he got over heated. He will never go out for DH again. :rotfl:

oh no poor Walter! I was a bit worried about Jazzy staying out too long today too, it's very hot and sticky here, keep waiting for a storm but just get more hot and sticky. (in MN)

We do late dining because we do not have kids (at least not age wise).:rotfl: Sometimes we act like kids or at least the guys do. :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

Even when our kids were young, we still opted for late dining. As for acting like a kid, that's what it's all about isn't it?

He looked so sad when I let him in. It is close to 100 here this week. It is too hot for this time of year. I bought him and our Jack Russell a small pool to plan in while they are out. DD complains that the dogs are treated better than she was when she was living at home. She is such a whiner. :lmao::rotfl2:

People always think we are crazy to do the DCL without kids but we love it. One of these days we would like to take the kids and their families. DD is getting married in Oct so this is going to be our rest before the stress sets in. DS is married with the most wonderful 6 month old baby. Aidan is our reqrd for letting Ryan survive his teen years. :lmao::rotfl2:

At the risk of sounding cheap (I prefer to think I'm frugal) we have spent the past couple days going through the shore excursions. When I say we, I mean darn near everyone that is going in my group. :worship:

Am I, or should I say, are we the only ones who think the shore excursions are very expensive? We already SPLURGED on the cabin for our DH's, but seriously I was choking on the excursions.

We have decided to do it ourselves. We are either going to do private or rent a vehicle and be part of Alaska. I priced out so much stuff last night and mapped it (actually till 2a.m. this morning).

What I want to know is if anyone out there that has been to Alaska has a recommendation for "Have to see/do this"

We have children from 2 to 15 to incorporate in our planning as well.

this is what we have decided as well. The excursions are just too much money.

Change in plans. I did not know that I had to take a ferry back and forth to the airport in Ketchikan to p/u and drop off a rental car. So we cancelled the rental car. The blue line bus (eff. today) will now run on weekends. That was great news. I wanted to take the children out to the Totem Bright State Park. I did finalize my Skagway tour. We rented cars and I downloaded this guide that goes mile by mile with sights, photo ops, trails, ect. in to the Yukon.

Could you share the guide you downloaded? Where did you find it and what is it called

we have late dining, too. We like it better. No rush on port days to get cleaned up. Pools are empty (yes, my daughter will be in the pool). We found that if we have early dinner, we can't make it to the cabaret shows or family dance parties.

We will have a 13 yr boy and a 10 yr girl.

I agree with you! We've always had late dining since getting "stuck" with it on one of our cruises due to booking it late. We fell in love and haven't looked back! Our kids were 7 and 4 on that cruise and are now also 13 and 10, but opposite sex of yours!!!!

Our 1st and only DCL cruise was 4 years ago. Fast forward 4 years and now we have DS 13 (will be 14 in November) and DD11 (12 in December). Which club can they go to? I am totally confused. On the DCL website for DS it says Edge is ages 11-13, and Vibe is 13-17, but in a different spot on the same page it says 14-17 (so is the Vibe 13+ or 14+?). Can he choose either or just one club? For DD, it says Edge 11-13 or Oceaneer Lab which is 3-12. Can she choose either club?

Also, I remember when we went 4 years ago we were asked about our DS having signout privileges. I assume that age 13, he can come and go as he pleases....not that I am super comfortable with that. Any help would be appreciated! THANKS fellow cruisers!

For kids that could go either way, you have to choose one or the other once you are onboard, and for the pre teens club and teens club, there is no sign in/out, only in the oceaneers club and lab. Of course all subject to change in typical Disney fashion!

Someone mentioned wearing crocs for waterproof shoes.
just want to mention that crocs do not do well on slippery surfaces like wet decks.

started a kids thread for this cruise. Here is a link to it.

Very cool!

So does anyone dress up for pirate night?

We did on one cruise but it's too much stuff to haul with so will just have head wear if anything this time around.

Just two of us cruising and 2nd seating for dinner. Do they have tables for two or has random seating worked out for others.

they do have smaller tables but we have become really close friends with people we have dined with in the past, so I wouldn't pass up the opportunity. However everyone is different, you can call DCL and ask them to note on your reservation that you prefer to be at a smaller table.

We finally bought a new suitcase!!! Binoculars and umbrella are packed!!!
sounds like you are all set! LOL

DH and I have cruised once on DCL without kids and I just did an adults only 14 night transatlantic on the Magic with again no kids, not crazy at all! And it's good to know there is reward down the road for me if my kids survive that long. LOL!

Ah lucky duck! I was wondering if maybe that was the case

Christi we seem on the same wavelength on alot of things!

mine are a 16 yr old boy and a 13 yr old girl

Okay I am caught up, no more posting! J/K

I was just over there skimming it before sending it to my teens. I am super excited that they might be able to get to know some others their age before the cruise (and looks like there is lots of prospects) but I do want to mention there is alot of information floating around in that post alone, dates of birth, rather specific locations etc. Parents you might want to check into it and make sure you are comfortable with what they are posting. Sorry I am a bit paranoid about this but internet security really worries me.

I agree with Mic about table mates. I had some wonderful ones on the EBTA.

To the person who posted about sailing without kids on Disney. I traveled alone on DCL and loved it. I would do it again.

Lori, I think that's a concierge thing, not a suite thing per se. I seem to remember Mindy mentioning the ability to do that....but again, I'm in steerage so I may be hallucinating....:rotfl:
