"DCL Klondike Kruisers" - August 23, 2011 PART 2

I personally have just been so frazzled by work and kids activities, I haven't had any time to focus on this cruise. Other than the excursion that "the collective: has agreed to take, I haven't even explored them yet....I think as it gets closer it will feel more real...you would think it would already, since I paid for all the air fare and such....:goodvibes

I think because we did make our decisions that I don't really need to think much about it. That, and I live in the Pacific NW and have been to Alaska before. It's a low-stress vacation for us....no flights:woohoo:, 2 hour drive:drive:, much less planning to do!

Now if we can't get the excursions we want....then it'll kick into overdrive....

I agree Kim! Susan and I did read all the excursion descriptions before the excursions discussion took place. I'm just sad that I can't make excursion reservations for you guys on the 25th! I can try if you guys PIF before then. I won't involve concierge, I'll just try to do it online. I did ask them if there was anything they could do to get on the same times (except for the dog sled as there is a limit per helicopter) and they said if the time is full, there was nothing they could do........ I can get Palo though, at least there is something I can do.....

I agree very quiet group. I can't stop researching Vancouver and looking at food porn...LOL We are new to DCL and I just can't wait! I am also waiting to get our room number still....PIF!!! Yeah! Trying to save for everything else but that's ok. Since we are new I can't book excursions and such until June 9th....bummer....I hope everything's not taken by then. I really hope we can do Palo as well! Looks to die for! We live in PA and are awaiting more rain and snow..AHHHH! :scared1:Can't wait till Spring! Then Summer Then Alaska!!!!!:dogdance:

We were discussing the cruise with some frinds last night. They were positivley green :rotfl:

I have no idea what to expect and getting excited. DH is saying he needs a new lens for his camera. He will have one suitcase just for his camera. :lmao:

We are doing that on the return trip to Seattle. I wanted the children to experience every mode of transportation. So the Amtrak train is a must.

I wanted to do that but DH didn't so I let him have his way. One time out of 30 years is not bad.:lmao::rotfl2:

I have no idea what to pack. I thought I would pack seaters and winter things when I get out my summer stuff. Any ideas what to pack?

I'm sure you've heard this before but layers is the way to go. Shorts aren't very common. I'm taking jeans and slacks, tank tops, short sleeves, long sleeves, a fleece vest, and two sweatshirts. Also bringing silk long underwear, ear band, waterproof hiking boots, and rain jacket. It doesn't seem like a very glamorous cruise but I am taking a cocktail dress for formal night and semi formal night. It can warm up into the 70's and it can drop into the 40's soooooo with that being said long pants are for me. I also bought rain pants from LL Bean for the whole family. We can throw them in our backpacks and take them out if we need them...it rains a ton in Alaska especially when we are cruising. The rain isn't going to spoil our fun! Good luck!!!

It's shorts weather for those of us who live in Canada *grin*

I suspect that we won't be bringing a lot of "winter" gear - long pants for cooler weather, but pretty much things that will allow for layering - ie. Waterproof shell that we can wear with layers.

Rain gear for sure, especially if you're doing any hiking or outdoor activities - from everything i've read you'll want stuff that will keep you dry if you're getting rained on for a while.

I had no idea about the rain. I need to look for water proof footwear.

I am not sure how I am going to stay under te two suitcase per person. Tommy will just have to wear the same thing everyday so I will have enough room for my stuff. I hate being cold and wet so this will help me get over the fact that we are not doing any excursion. We are meeting with the florist on Sat for DD wedding in Oct. I have a feeling this is going to be expensive. :scared1:

Sierra trading post.com seems to have the best prices....I love LL Bean but only when stuff is on sale. I'm a bargain shopper!

Thanks for the tip, checking them out!

I'm in a unique position this cruise....we live only about an hour from Port Canaveral so getting to and from the port is usually low stress. This is the first time I've had to coordinate flights, make sure we have enough clothes for the extra few days in Vancouver, etc...

Still trying to figure out how many diapers I need to bring. lol. Though I'm sure they sell those in Canada. ;)

I used to be a pretty efficient packer, and then we had a baby. Last cruise, I brought more stuff for her than me. And we ended up using almost everything!

That seems to happen when you have children! :lmao: My cheap husband is trying to tell me that we are going to take 1 suitcase per person because of the bag fee. That is find s long as he is not taking any clothes. (that may be scarey) :scared1:

Palo's Brunch is my favorite and I highly recommend it.

Jealous, only a 2 hour drive.

I had no idea about the rain. I need to look for water proof footwear.

Crocs are an option as well.
